About

JULY TALK IN CONCERT:

Canadian indie outfit July Talk is quickly rising the ranks with their blues-meets-pop sound and the engaging vocal interplay of dual lead singers Peter Dreimanis and Leah Fay. Dreimanis' husky growl is the perfect counterpoint to Fay's demure purr, and the duo play up the he-said-she-said drama with tongue-in-cheek lyrical bickering and amicable play-fighting on stage. Whether they're sending each other up on "Paper Girl" or rocking hard on "Summer Dress", the dynamic pair are the perfect front to the band's potent blend of indie, pop, and good old fashioned rock and roll.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

July Talk formed in Toronto in 2012 after smoky-voiced musician Peter Dreimanis overheard the angelic Leah Fay singing in a bar. She instantly became his muse, and together they assembled a band that complemented their strikingly different singing styles. July Talk released their self-titled debut album that same year, impressing critics with their robust blues-inspired sound and the playful vocal exchange of Dreimanis and Fay. In 2013 the band toured with big-name acts like Weezer and Tegan and Sara, wowing audiences with their vibrant energy and showmanship. Additional performances at festivals like Rock the Park London and the Toronto Urban Roots Festival helped cement their reputation as a must-see live act, setting big expectations for their sophomore album and accompanying tour.

New Constellations was VERY disappointing :(

by Brevs on 2017-11-28The Gateway (SAIT) - Calgary

When purchasing tickets to this event I was under the impression I was going to be listening to live music from 2-3 artists other than July Talk (as stated on the website). That was not the case at all as there ended up being at least 8 artists who performed not only music but who recited horrendous poems (in our opinion) that just brought the crowd down. The one that stood out specifically was the guy saying "F**k the river F**k the river". This all started at around 9:00 p.m however, July Talk didn't go on stage until about 11:15 p.m. and only showed up for like 15 min to perform 2 songs. I have seen July Talk multiple times and they put on an amazing show but this was just pure disappointment. Thank god we paid no more than $30 as I will never get back those 3 hrs of my life lol.

    Unexpected

by Justaguyatashow on 2017-11-27The Gateway (SAIT) - Calgary

At the time I purchased tickets, I thought it was a July Talk headlining show. Once I learned that there would be 7 or 8 artists I looked them up and realized the event would have lots of non-musical elements and tempered expectations to avoid disappointment. The majority of people surrounding me at the event were also surprised by the nature of the artists and tone. Between Jason Collett and July Talk I was expecting to hear a bit more from them then 4/5 songs combined.

Great - and not so great....

by Anonymous on 2017-11-27The Gateway (SAIT) - Calgary

This was a great experience. A showcase of many talented Indiginous artists. I cannot say enough about how amazing Jeremy Dutcher (seriously amazing) and Mob Bouce were. I actually had no idea what I was buying tickets for - thought I was going to a July Talk concert. I enjoyed my time - but left before Jjuly Talk actually got on stage. Now the not so great: After having to listen to one of the hosts Jason Collett sing one of the worst out of tune songs ever he decides to go after the crowd and scold them for not listening to him talk about the importance of the night. I do not want to pay money to an event to hear your talk to me like I'm 10 years old. You did the night ZERO benefit. Another host Damian Rogers seemed visibly upset when she wasn't getting the applause or attentioni she felt she should for her poetry reading. I've been to a thousand events and have never heard poetry read out loud. Maybe others like me don't know if you're supposed to clap, listen, cheer? Remeber that a lot of your audience are there to see JULY TALK play. Don't make it awkward. I didn't know what New Constelations was when I purchased the tickets. It was a special event.

July Talk hit it outta the park!

by GRox on 2017-09-19Malkin Bowl - Vancouver

As usual July Talk did not disappoint. They took to the stage and began the evening with a gracious thank you and it was apparent from the get go they were just as happy to be there as we were to be there with them. The energy was high throughout the entire show, the acoustics were amazing. If you have not yet seen July Talk live - you are missing out on one of the best live acts out there.

    Absolutely incredible

    by allycat12 on 2016-12-05Union Hall - Edmonton

Peter and Leah have such amazing and hypnotizing chemistry together on stage. They're incredible performers and I would spend my last dime to see them any and every time they come back to Edmonton. It was also really sweet of them to help out the couple who got engaged at their show on Friday night!

If I could go to their second show tonight I would. This band is by far the best live performance I have ever been too. Been to AC/DC twice, Linkin Park and more. July Talk out perform them all.

    July Talk was awesome

by Anonymous on 2016-11-30Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

They were great! I think the speaker system may have been a little too high, which made it hard to understand what they were saying at times. other than that, the show was phenomenal.

    July Talk was amazing!!

by Klahanie on 2016-11-26Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

July Talk is a band that even if you don't know them, you still feel energized by them; that's what my fiance said! He was blown away by their energy, their style, and the rhythm of the songs. It was high energy, fun, and the songs were exactly as they were recorded. They seemed to really enjoy being here in Vancouver, which made it nice. I have already seen them in concert once, I'm a huge fan already. The first time I got to see them, I waited till they came out to meet the fans, and I got a picture with the lead singers and band members. I was beyond excited. I'm glad they were so nice. Peter and Leah are very sweet. He told a story about how he got into the Cambie, and ordered his first beer. I laughed when he was surprised there was more than one! The first time I got into the Cambie, I didn't know how much beers were because I never bought my own before. This may be the last time I will see them. I'm dying of cancer, and it got into my brain and that has a very low survival rate. When I was first diagnosed, I came to see July Talk my favorite band. It's fitting I get to see them, as I am on my way out. I couldn't dance this time as I'm in a lot of pain but it was really great to share this experience with my fiance and he had a great time. It was a perfect night, so Thank you guys. We loved it!

    Great Show!

by Kman67 on 2016-11-14The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

Absolutely awesome show, great venue and great seats from the second row balcony. $8 a beer, little pricey but I can live with it. The band sounds great, and has a little more edge when you see them in a live venue. Played everything you would want to hear, I would definitely go see them again.

    July Talk is truly spectacular

by CassidyCharette on 2016-11-03Algonquin Commons Theatre - Ottawa

As always, July Talk put on a show like no other. Their performance style is eccentric, exciting, and unpredictable. You never want to take your eyes off them because they're incredibly captivating, and you might miss something if you look away. Leah Fay's crazy antics both on stage and in the crowd will have your head spinning, and Peter Dreimanis' explosive movements make you feel as though you're experiencing every trash, every step, and every head bang alongside him. The songs sound exactly like they do on the record, proving that these guys truly are as good live as they are in the studio. On top of that, after the show they took the time to meet and take pictures with every fan.

Best show i have seen in a long time

by Anonymous on 2016-11-03Algonquin Commons Theatre - Ottawa

We stumbled on this group last year when they opened for another band. Then, in my mind they stolen the show. Had to see them again. From the get go, exciting, entertaining. Lots of energy. Great stag presence. Love the music. I'd see them again.

    Incredible live performance

by LorPet on 2016-10-31The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

July Talk gave everything they had on the stage Friday night. Great to hear the new songs live. What a treat to see them at Danforth Music Hall, likely one of the few last times a medium-sized venue will suffice to hold this ever growing fan base.
