About

JULY TALK IN CONCERT:

Canadian indie outfit July Talk is quickly rising the ranks with their blues-meets-pop sound and the engaging vocal interplay of dual lead singers Peter Dreimanis and Leah Fay. Dreimanis' husky growl is the perfect counterpoint to Fay's demure purr, and the duo play up the he-said-she-said drama with tongue-in-cheek lyrical bickering and amicable play-fighting on stage. Whether they're sending each other up on "Paper Girl" or rocking hard on "Summer Dress", the dynamic pair are the perfect front to the band's potent blend of indie, pop, and good old fashioned rock and roll.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

July Talk formed in Toronto in 2012 after smoky-voiced musician Peter Dreimanis overheard the angelic Leah Fay singing in a bar. She instantly became his muse, and together they assembled a band that complemented their strikingly different singing styles. July Talk released their self-titled debut album that same year, impressing critics with their robust blues-inspired sound and the playful vocal exchange of Dreimanis and Fay. In 2013 the band toured with big-name acts like Weezer and Tegan and Sara, wowing audiences with their vibrant energy and showmanship. Additional performances at festivals like Rock the Park London and the Toronto Urban Roots Festival helped cement their reputation as a must-see live act, setting big expectations for their sophomore album and accompanying tour.

Less than half of crowd wearing masks.

by Jim on 2021-12-01Bronson Centre - Ottawa

I'm sure July Talk was great. I saw them in PEI years ago and loved them. The venue and promotion is to blame for not adhering to public health measures. We didn't see the show because we didn't feel safe. When we bought tickets, it was sold as limited capacity because of COVID. Yea - capacity limits have been lifted, but standing room only is nuts. To make it worse, at best half the crowd were masked and nobody was doing anything about it. Look forward to seeing July Talk when things are safer, and you don't have to depend on sketchy venues/promotions.

    amazing...except the lighting

by Carole on 2021-12-01Bronson Centre - Ottawa

Maybe the small venue in Ottawa was not set up to allow for lighting directed to the stage? But I really like to see the band and the backlighting was blinding at times and made the bandmembers look only like outlines. Going again in my hometown of Hamilton so maybe it will be better at the bigger venue. The lighting is my only thing to be critical of. July Talk always puts on a great energetic performance. Soooooo good.

    July Talk, November 28

by Cese on 2021-12-01Bronson Centre - Ottawa

I would give this show a solid 4/5 stars! July Talk themselves were a fantastic 6/5 - they put on a truly amazing show and the quality of their sound was fantastic. SUCH GREAT PERFORMANCES. I am giving the 4/5 mostly because of feedback towards the Bronson Centre - I would encourage it to be more clear about the General Admission piece regarding the balcony seating, as well as doors open versus first act appearing. Like many, we waited outside for over an hour which was quite frustrating. I also didn't see any additional staff in side the venue checking to ensure people remained masked throughout the show and there were people unmasking to watch, which made me uncomfortable. This is not feedback for July Talk though, just the Bronson Centre.

    Great band, Bad Sound

    by Music on 2020-07-21

Saw them play for Indie 88's Birthday Party, I love this band, but the sound was the worst I have ever heard at a live venue. I hope the band never uses the sound guys that that used that night. I hope to see this talented band sometime in the future with a real sound system and engineer.

    Incredible!!!!!

    by C.Christiansen on 2019-10-23

They are absolutely amazing live! My husband and I loved the performance, and they are such down to earth, friendly people. They interact with their fans and keep you begging for more! I was drooling when they performed a special request for husband and I with nothing but the piano. 'Come Down Champion', we will never forget it and will be attending every single show they do in Edmonton. They are simply magical and brilliant.

    July Talk in December

by MadMal on 2017-12-27Massey Hall - Toronto

What an opportunity to catch July Talk at Massey Hall before they close for renovations. It is a very intimate venue and It was my first time up in the balcony section with the old wooden folding stadium seats so tightly crammed together, you couldn't help but sway to the music with the rest of the crowd cause we were cramed so tight but it didnt matter because it was July Talk and that made it all better.. What a great show, hands down one of the best I've seen this year!

    One of a kind

    by Ally14 on 2017-12-24Massey Hall - Toronto

July Talk is a band that never plays the same show twice. Having seen them in several different settings through four years I can safely say it was an honour and a privilege to see them play Massey hall before it’s renovations. They owned that venue and that stage and It’s magic will live on forever.

    Amazing concert- pole obstructing view

    by jlynn87 on 2017-12-24Massey Hall - Toronto

July Talk put on an amazing show and the opener Tristen was just as fabulous. My only issue is that my view was obstructed by a pole, which wasn’t made obvious when booking the seats.
