    just for laughs: russell peters

    by m3boy on 2010-07-10Massey Hall - Toronto

line up and jokes were just average. I wasn't floored w/ the line-up as previous years. I honestly thought Russell Peters was going to do the whole night, the line up wasn't displayed on your website, which was misleading and disappointing.

Just for Laughs was just for laughs!

by peglegger on 2010-07-10Richmond Hill Centre - Richmond Hill

I went just for the laughs as I do enjoy it on TV. However, nothing beats live entertainment and the show was fast paced, didn't go overboard on the ethnic jokes, and had a few people pissing in the aisles. It was great. All comedians had different material but I liked the MC the best as he kept it rolling and did a great job between acts.

    Mike was amazing!

by Anairda on 2010-07-10Berkeley Street Theatre - Toronto

I had never gone to see an actual comic before, someone I've seen on the Comedy Network. I wasn't sure what to expect. The theatre was smaller yet very comfortable. Then Mike came out. His approach to comedy is excellent--it's artful, comedic storytelling! He has some serious points in his material but he lightens it up quickly and you find yourself laughing, but his points are made. He's amazing and I would see him again!!

    List of comics?

by MarilynonManning on 2010-07-10Massey Hall - Toronto

Although the show was great, and I understand that things were changed because Gary Shandling cancelled, it would have been great if the insert to the program included not only information about Russell Peters, but about all the comics who were appearing. Not even their names were available. That's just not good enough for $100 bucks a ticket. Can anyone provide all the names with correct spellings? Especially the guy in the suit. He was great. Thanks!

    Great Show

by JTet on 2010-07-09Berkeley Street Theatre - Toronto

This was a great show in an intimate venue. Birbiglia played off of the audience well and told a really funny and sometimes touching hour long story that kept everyone interested and laughing.

    Everyone was amazing!

by highflyerjohnson on 2010-07-09Winter Garden Theatre - Toronto

There were a lot of comics there, but the most memorable had to be Patton Oswalt and Andy Kindler; those two completely stole the show! Todd Barry and Pat Thornton were also in top form, even though I had honestly never really heard of them until that night. I would recommend this event to anyone who loves to laugh and just have a great time!

    Tommy Tiernan, Just for Laughs

by Tonse on 2010-07-09Jane Mallett Theatre - Toronto

Tommy put on a really great show. His timing, physical expressions and story telling were hilarious and I laughed almost constantly for about 90 minutes. My friend and I were still talking about some of the lines, long after we left the show.

He's the funniest man on the planet!

by filmcritic on 2010-07-09Jane Mallett Theatre - Toronto

After following the festival and its galas for quite some time now, I can safely say that this was the best comedy show so far! And it was certainly the best bang for the buck. Never mind the $200+ gala shows - this was non-stop laughter for 80 mins at a fraction of the price. I wasn't the only one in hysterics who laughed till I cried. This is stand-up comedy at its best!

    Patton & friends killed!

by Anthrogynous on 2010-07-09Winter Garden Theatre - Toronto

Just an awesome, epic time. I was thrilled to see Andy Kindler hosting, who I know from Doug Loves Movies podcast. Mark Forward was a special treat, I hadn't heard him before. Always loved Todd Barry's mellow stylings. TJ Miller, from How to Train Your Dragon AND Doug Loves Movies was fantastic. The crowd jumped in a little here and there, which you don't want at a classy venue such as this. But it was well-handled, and nobody got wise during the man himself, Patton Oswalt. Who killed. KILLED. He was great, unforgettable night.

    Birbiglia was awesome!

by shelz on 2010-07-09Berkeley Street Theatre - Toronto

I have to admit, my husband is the one who really enjoys stand-up comedy and rarely have I found any comedians who I particularly care for....that is until he made me watch a bit by Mike Birbiglia. When we found out he was coming to Toronto we bought tickets immediately. The show last night at Berkeley Street Theatre (great venue btw) was fantastic! He is the first comic to make me laugh to the point where I actually had tears rolling down my face and my cheeks hurt! And based on the laughter of everyone around us, they all equally enjoyed the show. Birbiglia is clever, a creative story teller, and he's not one to use profanity to get his humour across. I would definitely see him again if he were to come back our way!

Nasty doesn't begin to describe ...

    by 2Xmom on 2010-07-09Panasonic Theatre - Toronto

After attending the opening gala the last couple of years, my husband and I decided to attend the nasty show - which we'd heard lots about. Needless to say, we were not disappointed. Not for the faint of heart, the nasty show delves into topics rarely discussed in the open, such as abortion, sexual preference, miscarriages, sex, race, et cetera. Shock value at it's best. A lot of, "oh no, he/she did not just say that - did they???"

    Funny and Smart

by orlaila on 2010-07-09Berkeley Street Theatre - Toronto

I highly recommend this show, extremely funny entertaining and fast paced. Highly recommended for the non-Jews who have Jewish friends, you'll walk out with a big smile on your face having a better understanding of the Jewish culture you always thought you knew. Loved it!

Demetri RULED... and there were obviously other great comics on stage also. I wish the "host" and featured comic for each show had a bit more time to do their bit. I think a lot of people go to particular shows because of the "host" that's marketed on the website. I do love that the Just For Laughs festival brings in comics from around the world. Some of my favourite comics are those I've seen at this festival. Jimeoin, John Caperulo, Demetri Martin... Outside of the theater after the show it was obviously the primary crowd draw was Demetri. I would have loved more of him. Also - in terms of ticketing/seating... I think if there are empty seats in the audience close to the front/edge of the balcony people should be allowed/encouraged by ushers to move up into those seats. Comedy shows in particular can be seriously enhanced by the crowd... and having more people pack the front helps out the performer and the audience experience. I'm assuming sales were lower this year than last for the festival as I experienced fuller shows last year AND saw discounted tickets going around online after I bought mine. Just a thought.

    Tim Minchin steals the show

by MiiM on 2010-07-09Massey Hall - Toronto

The whole show was awesome but Tim Minchin was the bestest. If you don't see him live then you have missed something. The audience was lame as usual. They laughed enough but it's always the same. One woman fake laughs louder than anyone, the woman in front of me was recording the whole thing so I was constantly distracted by her big camera screen and at the end the applause was meh. Stand up if you liked the show! They are standing on stage, you stand to be at the same 'level'. Come on Toronto. Sick of it.
