About

English rockers Keane play a unique brand of alternative rock that highlights the piano instead of the more traditionally favored guitar. The band is made up of lead singer Tom Chaplin, drummer Richard Hughes, bassist Jesse Quin and pianist Tim Rice-Oxley. Anyone who has been to a Keane concert tends to talk about the infectious excitement coming from the stage, with a fun light show in the background to add to the atmosphere. In particular, during the tour to promote their Strangeland album, even the ballads they performed were described by ticket holders as rousing and energetic.

The band is named after a family friend who at one time cared for and inspired some of the band members, most of whom met in England at a young age. Though Keane has gone through some changes since the beginning, including the departure of guitarist and founder Dominic Scott, the band managed to find success after releasing its first album, Hopes and Fears, in 2004. Some of the album's most popular songs included "Somewhere Only We Know," "Bend and Break" and "Everybody's Changing." In 2006, Under the Iron Sea was released, bringing with it the hit songs "Is It Any Wonder?" and "Atlantic." That album was followed by Perfect Symmetry in 2008, which brought back the use of the guitar and also increased the band's reliance on synthesizers.

Strangeland was released in 2010, becoming Keane's fifth album in a row to garner the No. 1 spot on the UK Albums Chart. After The Best of Keane album was released in 2013, the members of the band announced that they would be taking a break to relax after several busy years of making music.

    Incredible live!

by jimmae on 2009-07-13Sound Academy - Toronto

First time seeing Keane at a live performance. Simply a fantastic live show. Vocally unmatched in my opinion! Loved every minute of the show. The acoustic version of play along gave me a new appreciation of that song. Only the most talented can take songs they written and pump out a better version live! Highly recommend seeing them......going back again in September in Kitchener!

    KEANE ARE THE KINGS!!!

by Firefly on 2009-07-13Sound Academy - Toronto

I have been a fan of Keane for 5 years now. This was my first chance to see them perform and I must say, I was blown away!!! I had a fear that they wouldn't perform as well as their albums but they met my expectations AND rose high above them. I can't wait for Keane to get the recognition they deserve. By far the best concert I have ever been too.

    Keane and Kearney were FANTASTIC

by Allygatorpie on 2009-07-12Sound Academy - Toronto

OK, truth of the matter is that i bought these tickets because i'm a fan of Matt Kearney. His show blew me away. I was happy...i probably could have gone home at the end of his set. HOWEVER, of course i've heard of Keane and a few of their songs...and who am I to miss a good live show, especially when i'd perched myself right in the front row. Keane, was just a plain ole FUN band to see. They sang perfect, they really played up to the crowd and the crowd LOVED them. I really, really enjoyed this show.

    They get better every time!

by Lara on 2009-07-12Sound Academy - Toronto

I have been a fan since before their music was released in Canada. I say this every time I see Keane live..... Tom has the voice of angel. They really do get better every time and that doesn't even seem possible. The energy he brings to the stage and the crowd is crazy!!! He is so passionate about the music and loves the fans.... always involving the crowd and talking to us. Keane is a concert I would never miss and either should you!!!!!

    Band was good...but....

by soccerbeks on 2009-07-12Sound Academy - Toronto

I thought the band was REALLY good. I don' t like that venue. To narrow. They pretty much played everything I was looking forward to and it sounded awesome! I saw them before and the Kool Haus and loved them there as well and I liked that venue better. I would go again for sure.

    atmospheric excellence

by ksmacdonald on 2009-07-12Sound Academy - Toronto

I already had high hopes going to see this concert because it was my favourite band of the moment, but after going there I could have never imagined what I saw. The music was amazing, the set was phenominal and the group performed so energeticly. But this wasn't what made it special, it was the crowd. After every song every single person in that crowd felt the need to scream as loud as they could. Typically this would die down after the first few songs right? Well that didn't happen here. Every single person was screaming at the top of their lungs intro to finale. Even the band said that they had never witnessed a crowd's ambiance like this. Ever. It just made you smile, and that's why it was unforgettable!

    Keane - Were Fantastic

    by dmfan519 on 2009-07-12Sound Academy - Toronto

Been to lots of concerts but this one was Bl--dy Fantastic - Great venue for getting close, everyone was so polite and there to have a good time - Not one sniff of pot - didn't need it. The atmosphere was set by this band's energy. Sounded just like they do on high quality stereo. Captivating all the way - Came away feeling very good about everything.

    Getting better all the time

by paddyfloyd on 2009-07-12Sound Academy - Toronto

Tom's voice just seems to get better and better with time. The way they put the setlist together to mix the new material with the previous two albums' was great too, though I would have preferred they hadn't closed with 'Bedshaped' as they have been for the last few years. Great show!

    Keane is truly amazing!

by searchforme on 2009-07-12Sound Academy - Toronto

I have seen Keane many times and while the Sound Academy had not been one of my most favourite venues to see bands at, Keane made it just as enjoyable for me as it had been at previous shows. They are high energy, engaging and incredibly humble and modest. This show was packed with songs from all their albums and they put 110% into their performance. Tom's singing is pitch perfect and it was nice to see Tim and Richard involved in a lot of the singing too. All in all, fantastic show. I would never miss an opportunity to see Keane, so definitely check them out!

    Keane was great!

by Sammyk on 2009-07-12Sound Academy - Toronto

The venue was a great host to Keane who brought rock, pop, and energy to Toronto. Their songs aren't going to go down in music history, but that concert will always be in my mind.

    Awesome!

    by Racerboy007 on 2009-07-12Sound Academy - Toronto

I was introduced to Keane when I was in the UK. My sister was a big fan and loved them 100% right from the start. It took me a bit longer to really get to like them. But I would definitely consider myself a fan - I have every CD in my collection. When I finally got to see them live at the Sound Academy on May 23, 2009 - I wasn't sure how their music would sound like live. I can tell you that my Wife and I where now dissappointed at all. There was a great energy to the venue and the people. The opening acts were also very strong with their sets and suited the style of music. Keane was out to really please that night. The music was awesome, the set was a good length and a good mix of new stuff and their older music. I really loved the music and the concert. They actually sound even better live than on their studio albums. VERY GOOD CONCERT!!!!

    Keane was AMAAAZING

by MISNO on 2009-07-12Sound Academy - Toronto

Really good show...excellent sound quality...those boys can sure rock the house when it is all said and done. They played to the crowd by offering up all their trademark songs, as well as some more hardcore fan-friendly material...a really good balalnce. I will be happily in attendance in September to see them in Kitchener. Kudos to the Helio Sequence who also played a solid opening act...I picked up their CD 'keep your Eyes ahead', and it was in my car CD player for a month!

    Keen on Keane

by ConcertGirl on 2009-07-12Sound Academy - Toronto

From the moment you see Keane perform live they become an investment in your life. It's impossible to see them just once in concert. Their shows are strictly about the band; there isn't an elborate stage productions to take away from the actual concert experience. They sound better in person than on their CDs (if that's even possible). The band's energy is infectious and leaves you wanting more. It's evident that they want all of their fans to get the most out of their shows. Tom's voice is hypnotizing and always leaves me smiling from ear to ear. I see them every time they make their way to Toronto. I enjoyed their performance so much at the Sound Academy, I flew to New York City to see them play at Radio City Music Hall, and I just got tickets to see them again in Kitchener. They are by far one of my most favourite bands to check out live.

    Energetic performance

by JoeyJoJo on 2009-07-12Sound Academy - Toronto

Fun show. The crowd really got into it when they played their older material. Didn't realize the amount of guitars used for the newer songs.

    Simply Perfect

by frank on 2009-07-12Sound Academy - Toronto

Words can't describe how increadible Keane sounds live. It doesn't sound possible, but they're better live than recorded...and the energy they bring to the show is infectious. I also apprecieted the 2 tiered ticket prices at the sound academy. It was nice having all that space in the upper level.
