KING CRIMSON IN CONCERT:

You can't keep a good band down -- legendary prog rock pioneers King Crimson ended a five-year hiatus in 2014 with the announcement of a fall US tour. The group has called it quits several times over the decades, but their love of music and passion for performing always bring them back to the stage. The band's current lineup -- its eighth since 1969 -- includes founder and primary creative force Robert Fripp alongside three drummers, two guitar players, and a flutist-saxophonist. Beloved for their virtuosic musicianship and extended live jamming, the veteran performers will take fans on an unforgettable musical journey through their hallowed discography on their An Evening with King Crimson tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

King Crimson was formed in Dorset, UK in 1968 by guitarist Robert Fripp and brothers Michael and Peter Giles. The band's acclaimed 1969 debut In the Court of the Crimson King established what would become the hallmarks of British progressive rock, with its emphasis on instrumental expertise, use of vanguard musical technologies, and fusion of rock forms with classical and jazz styles. By the time they released their 1970 sophomore album In the Wake of Poseidon the band had already undergone the first of many lineup changes, but despite the shakeup the album still landed at No. 4 on the UK Albums Chart. In the decades that followed, King Crimson's rotating roster of players produced an impressive string of Top 40 albums, establishing them as one of the era's most revered progressive rock acts. Despite several hiatuses over the years, the band continues to reunite for occasional albums and tours. Robert Fripp and Co. thrilled fans once again in 2014 with the announcement of An Evening with Crimson, their highly anticipated fall US tour.

    Great Experience

by Mike H on 2019-09-24Budweiser Stage - Toronto

This was one of my favourite concerts ever and believe me I am not one for hyperbole. Unsurpassed musicianship. The set list spanned the 50 year repertoire of King Crimson and seemed to satisfy everyone. I don’t see how it could not. The use of 3 drummers was masterful. They played in unison, they played off each other and they each contributed the own unique sound from their individual drum kits that resonated deeply. Tony Levin was masterful and provided a huge stage presence. Robert Fripp was zeroed in on the music, using a watchful eye to study and connect with his band mates. The band came across somewhat like a jazz ensemble but it was high energy wicked rock music. They were able to add in captivating mood changes as well. Islands, for example, was absolutely mesmerizing. I can go on but I think this gives my picture of the evening. Highly Recommended!

    Great Show

by GG on 2019-09-19Budweiser Stage - Toronto

As usual King Crimson provided a great set list which covered many favourites from their 50+ year catalogue. They all played well and the placement of the 3 drum sets up front (as usual for this band) allowed an interesting study in playing style and coordination.

    Wow

by Ewank on 2019-09-18Budweiser Stage - Toronto

This was a simply amazing experience to watch this group of outstanding musicians play the extremely complex music to perfection. The coordination of the three drummers was something to behold. Mr. Fripp conducted the band to provide a musical experience that cannot be duplicated except by seeing King Crimson Live. One of the best concerts that I have ever experienced.

    King Crimson Reigns!

by Suzy on 2019-09-17Budweiser Stage - Toronto

Progrock just as fresh as it was 50 years ago! King Crimson did not disappoint, even though the lineup consisted of only one original member, Robert Fripp. Would have appreciated some word from the band as to who was who, but talking wasn't their thing. Also, the excellent camera work for the large screens which we have previously enjoyed at the Bud Stage was sorely absent from this concert.

50 years on this band can still bring it

by Rick on 2019-09-17Budweiser Stage - Toronto

I haven't enjoyed a concert in a long time as much as I enjoyed An Evening with King Crimson. I first saw this band 48 years ago (and it could have been 50 -- on their first tour -- if I wasn't such a numb nuts). There were some long-time members in the band, with some more recent joiners, but wow, just wow. Everything they played was truly excellent. I must admit that the three drummers were having a bit too much fun by the end of the performance, but listening to three master musicians work as one was a quite interesting experience. The highlights of the performance for me was "Moonchild" with lovely solo portions and Mel Collins breaking into "Take the A Train" during his solo in the encore of "21st Century Schizoid Man" -- a truly bizarre Crim moment for sure. Thanks, guys, for a terrific evening!

    An Amazing Concert

by Lawrence on 2019-09-17Budweiser Stage - Toronto

This is the 3rd time I have seen King Crimson and the 1st time was 50 years ago. I think they are better than ever. The musicianship was amazing and the sound was perfect.

    King Crimson 50th anniversary

by Hadmyfill on 2019-09-17Budweiser Stage - Toronto

Number 1: went with a great group of people. Number 2: seat upgrade. Nice surprise, bonus! King Crimson arguably the most complicated music in rock, played the music with expertise and soul. The ‘home team’ crowd stood up several times for standing ovations! And the encore song (21st Century Schizoid Man) was the perfect ending for a perfect evening. Superb!
