KING CRIMSON IN CONCERT:

You can't keep a good band down -- legendary prog rock pioneers King Crimson ended a five-year hiatus in 2014 with the announcement of a fall US tour. The group has called it quits several times over the decades, but their love of music and passion for performing always bring them back to the stage. The band's current lineup -- its eighth since 1969 -- includes founder and primary creative force Robert Fripp alongside three drummers, two guitar players, and a flutist-saxophonist. Beloved for their virtuosic musicianship and extended live jamming, the veteran performers will take fans on an unforgettable musical journey through their hallowed discography on their An Evening with King Crimson tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

King Crimson was formed in Dorset, UK in 1968 by guitarist Robert Fripp and brothers Michael and Peter Giles. The band's acclaimed 1969 debut In the Court of the Crimson King established what would become the hallmarks of British progressive rock, with its emphasis on instrumental expertise, use of vanguard musical technologies, and fusion of rock forms with classical and jazz styles. By the time they released their 1970 sophomore album In the Wake of Poseidon the band had already undergone the first of many lineup changes, but despite the shakeup the album still landed at No. 4 on the UK Albums Chart. In the decades that followed, King Crimson's rotating roster of players produced an impressive string of Top 40 albums, establishing them as one of the era's most revered progressive rock acts. Despite several hiatuses over the years, the band continues to reunite for occasional albums and tours. Robert Fripp and Co. thrilled fans once again in 2014 with the announcement of An Evening with Crimson, their highly anticipated fall US tour.

    King Crimson ROCKS!

by RonDoors on 2019-09-17Budweiser Stage - Toronto

King Crimson Rocked out the Budweiser Stage, hands down! Robert Fripp & K.C. had the crowd in their hands. In my opinion, King Crimson is a Fantastic band! I was most impressed how the crowd didn't take pictures and shot any videos as per requested by Robert. But like always, there's dummies who don't follow the rules. Overall, Great band, Great concert, Great crowd, Great venue & Great summer evening. If you never seen K.C. and you do get the chance. Capitalize on it! You will Not be disappointed!

Crimson pulled it off again. My 8th or 9th time over the years and they just keep getting better! 2nd set was miraculous!! It helps to have good seats in that venue.

King Crimson were perfect as expected but damn, $12+ dollars for a beer. That's a bit much.

Excellent performance with some great quiet moments.

by Shaun on 2019-09-17Budweiser Stage - Toronto

I've been a fan since maybe 10 years now. A bit late to the KC party, but never too late right? I really their core period from In the Court to Red. I love their use of heavy and quiet dynamics.

    Newest King Crimson Fan

    by Smash81 on 2019-09-17Budweiser Stage - Toronto

My siblings and I bought tickets to take my dad to the King Crimson concert for his birthday. We went for him knowing they are one of his all time favourite bands. When we were walking to our seats I asked if he was excited and he responded with "I never thought in my whole life I'd see King Crimson live and you are about to witness something you've never seen before". He was absolutely right. My dad's 3 30something kids are now huge fans of their incredible talent. It was an amazing night that proved with standing ovation after every song this band has huge talent. What an amazing group of guys with unique talent. We had a fantastic experience at the show with memories that will last forever.

    Beyond any expectations imaginable

by MAMA on 2019-09-09Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

Fox Theater was an amazing venue to see such a spectacular performance by a very unique band in their 50th year of existence. Full of history and excellent acoustics for such a show. This version of the group has been on active duty since 2014 (give or take a member) and they have only gotten better from what was already an incredibly high water mark to begin with. 3 drummers situated in the front line so you can truly appreciate the interplay between them and the depth of the arrangements which left a lot of space for improvisation. The music crossed all eras of the band’s catalogue, with full dynamic range demonstrated throughout the 2 sets, and the set list changes every night so you’re never sure what they will choose to play. Further, in an age where other bands are doing ‘full album celebration shows’ KC consistently reinvents its catalogue and presents music performances that feel both familiar and exploratory at the same time...a truly amazing accomplishment for a 7 piece band. In addition, though the music and musicians involved have often been described as ‘very serious’ largely due to the complexity of the music, the band showed throughout the performance their sense of humour and genuinely seemed to enjoy making music together. It is highly recommended that any fan of King Crimson see them on this tour if possible. Prices for tickets are a little high, but they play roughly 135 minutes of music a night...almost double what your average band plays...considering that it is a reasonable investment in both your money and your time. If I could, I would see them again on this tour.

    Blew me away

by Bazzman on 2017-11-25Michigan Theater - Ann Arbor

I knew King Crimson was a very progressive band, and if you aren't into this kind of music, then it would be a waste of time for you. But I have always loved the different sounds of a good jazz-fusion-rock band and King Crimson fit that bill 100% I knew it was going to be a different show as soon as I walked into the venue. There were three drum sets, up front on the stage. These guys were unbelievable, the hours they must have spent with the synchronization. The drumming alone is worth the price of the ticket. Then Robert Fripp and the rest of the band were totally amazing. It was a show that I will not soon forget!! Loved it. It was the first time I have been to the Michigan theater in Ann Arbor. It is a small venue, our seats were as far back as you can go, but I saw and heard everything perfectly. Nice place to see a concert.

Crimson Orchestra brilliant display of talent

by Cervantes on 2017-08-02Centre Videotron - Québec

King crimson released Discipline back in 1981 but last July 7 that title is what best describes this brilliant ensemble of top talented musicians, They look more like an orchestra than your average rock group as King Crimson appeared on stage in the mid-seventies when I saw them for the first time in Montreal. The show set list varies from stage to stage so the one we got in Quebec City was quite different from the one performed in Montreal. Split in two sections with an intermission, King Crimson members all display a unique highly complex virtuoso performance. Each member has a different part to play as an orchestra member would and the symphonies are vintage compositions dating back to 1969 that had not been played live in decades. And it is not a nostalgia setting either like many 70's and 80's bands who regularly tour every summer doing package tours in sheds. Not Crimson, the front line features a triple drummer attack although the engine that in reality it's lead is Gavin Harrison. And the rear line has the multiple instrumentalists playing Bass (veteran Tony Levin always superb), Mel Collins (even more veteran plays wind instruments and plays most solos besides Fripp), Robert Fripp (perennial Crim leader who's guitar wailing is very unique especially during "Heroes"). And lastly, vocalist and rhythm guitarrist Jakko Jackzyk who fills in the enormous task of singing in for past Crimson vocalists (Lake, Wetton, Boz and Belew) with ease adding his own style. No massive screens a la U2, lasers or light show here folks, it's all in the music and these musicians sure know how to fill the stage with talent and finesse. Final leg tour starts in Austin TX in October, do yourself a favor - GO see them if you can!

    Amazing

    by Challenger1970 on 2017-07-24Centre Videotron - Québec

KC were just amazing the 8 musicians demonstrated and showed their professionalism among them the three drummers were more than I could ever imagine. Robert Fripp and Tony Levin are still playing with such energy for over three hours. Professionals entertainers should describe this amazing group which was introduced to me only 40 years ago. Just amazing.

    Show was exhilarating!

by Scootz on 2017-07-08Massey Hall - Toronto

There was so much energy from he three drummers and Tony Levin on bass. Thought it was better then 2 years ago, maybe because didn't know what to expect. So expected a lot this time and they more then delivered. So glad they are now including their tribute to David Bowie with "Heroes"! A fantastic show from being to end! ***** A warning for those attending future shows, get there early. The doors closed at 8 as the band started and a lot had to wait to a break in the music to get in!*******
