Kirov Balet delivered again! The Sony Centre new auditorium's acoustic is superb! Waterloo Orchestra - amazing !!!
The best ballet performance I've ever seen bar none.
Extraordinary performance, magnificent costumes, beautiful music. The Kirov Ballet Company's reputation for excellence was demonstrated with flying colours.
Amazing!! Perfect Synchronized performance! Would see the show again on their next tour to Toronto.
I had heard for many years that the Kirov was the best ballet company in the world and it is true. I'm sorry to say our own lovely National Ballet is not at all comparable. It truly was the most thrilling performance of any kind I have ever seen. Honestly, the whole audience was holding their breath through different moments because it was so beautiful, so exquisitely danced. I don't know what else to say, other than see it if at all possible.
I attended the martini show at 2 pm on Saturday 5 March. Before I came to the show, I watched Russian vintage ballet DVD by Warner Music Vision featuring Kirov and Boishoi highligjts on the great masters and ballerinas, such as Baryshnikov, Nureyev, Ulanlova, Dudinskata etc.. Ivanchenko is young and handsome but his technique is not as good as the great masters. His spins are much slower. I expect 32 black swan spins by Kondaurova but am disappointed. However the costumes are great overall. The settings are too simple. It appears that the white and black swan are performed by one and the same ballerina whereas the practice is to be performed by two ballerlinas. However, I see the Kirov quality and the overall comment is still great. I met a lot of Russians in the show. I also suspect that the artists in the martini shows may not be as good as those in the evening shows.
I had the pleasure of seeing the Mariinsky Ballet Company perform "Swan Lake" for the first time in Ottawa several years ago and was absolutely amazed at the precision and unity of so many dancers! As a result, when they returned this year to Canada, I just had to take my daughter and granddaughter to see them in Toronto. You have not lived until you have seen "Swan Lake" performed by the best Ballet Company in the World - The Mariinsky! So, after I saw them perform "La Bayadere" in Ottawa this February (I am an NAC ticket holder), I drove to Toronto to see them do "Swan Lake" once again but this time with my daughter and granddaugher in tow! And, as before, I was mesmerized by this wonderful production. This was my graddaughter's first Ballet and she loved it, especially the 3rd Act. We attended the afternoon performance on March 5th and were not disappointed at all inspite of the pouring rain outside. Absolutely FANTASTIC!!! Definitely something that should be on every Ballet dancer's Bucket List!!
It was just the best ever Ballet! The performance was just brilliant!
Great show. Amazing performance with high standard of professionalism.
Best bellet performance I've ever seen. Canadian ballet is nowhere near this company
THOUGH EXPECTING A GOOD PERFORMANCE, I WAS ASTONISHED AND AMAZED AT THE DEPTH OF THIS COMPANY. THE PRECISION OF THE CORPS WAS A SIGN OF A WELL REHEARSED AND WELL TRAINED AND COHESIVE COMPANY. EMOTIONALLY, THE DANCERS PERFORMED WITH THEIR WHOLE BODIES AND THE FEMALE CORPS WERE TRULY REPRESENTATIVE OF SWANS. THIS COMPANY IS CERTAINLY ONE OF THE BEST IN THE WORLD, AND MAKES THE NATIONAL BALLET OF CANADA LOOK LIKE A RECREATIONAL BALLET CLASS.
Fantastic performance of a ballet classic! The Mariinsky ballet was outstanding - dancing, costumes and composition were truly amazing! Would definitely watch this show again! Fantastic music as well!
The Swan Lake ballet was an outstanding event...In all, there were three acts and all the elements of the ballet such as wardrobes, music, stage, choreography were at their best...the spectators gave a standing ovation to the performers....The credit goes to the Marinsky Theater in St. Petersburg for upholding the legendary ballet....
It was just a perfection - I'm absolutely happy that I had a chance to see it. Lifetime opportunity!
Swan Lake was a real event for Toronto's cultural life. The performance has proved once again the strength of traditions at Mariinsky (Kirovsky) Theatre. It was a real pleasure to see young ballet dancers to follow 300 year-old traditions to amaze the Toronto audience. The reception was simply outstanding. I am looking forward to seeing them again!
Being in the audience for the performance of Swan Lake was an amazing and unforgettable experience. The music by the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony Orchestra dipped and dived with true emotional flavour and the dancing of the Kirov Ballet was magnificent.....hard to believe that a story can be told without words but the Kirov Ballet did it on Friday night! Costumes, lighting and sets only enhanced the truly successful evening.
The Marinksky (Kirov) Ballet's interpretation of Swan Lake left us groping for superlatives. The artistry, athleticism, precision, choreography, costumes, sets, music and so much more created a memorable night of entertainment. This was our first ballet - ever in 70 years. What a way to start!
Wow! I don't think anyone but the Russians can perform quite like this. I had been looking forward to this since July when I purchased tickets and was not disappointed. Saw it on Friday night and it was exquisite!! An earlier review in the Toronto Star kind of "panned" the orchestra, but on Friday night I thought they were tremendous as well. It was as perfect an evening of ballet I have ever experienced!
The Russians leap as no other dancers: from Najinsky onward they have mastered the technique of almost treading an invisible set of stairs in their dance. The athleticism that is apparent in their dance does not overshadow the grace and elegance of their dance. The contrasting styles of the dancers portraying Odile and Odette are a delight to witness. The bold, audacious Odile spinning while on point while the demure Odette relies on graceful arabesques. This is a performance not to miss. Ballet as it was meant to be.
Absolutely mesmerizing, Swan Lake simply does not get any better than this.
