Las Vegas Raiders History

The Las Vegas Raiders began play in the American Football League in Oakland in 1960. In 1963, they hired head coach and general manager Al Davis, who engineered the greatest one-year turnaround in pro football history, leading the Raiders to a 10-4 record after they posted a 1-13 mark the year before.

From 1967 to 1977 the Raiders appeared in three consecutive AFL title games and six AFC championship games. They won their first national championship title at Super Bowl XI in 1977, beating Minnesota 32-14. In 1980, they became the first Wild Card playoff team to win a Super Bowl, beating Philadelphia 27-10 in Super Bowl XV.

The Raiders moved to Los Angeles in 1982 and the following year won their third national championship title, defeating Washington 38-9 in Super Bowl XVIII. After returning to Oakland in 1995, the Raiders won three straight AFC West titles from 2000 to 2002 and earned a berth in Super Bowl XXXVII. As the only franchise to play in the Super Bowl in the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s, the Raiders are known as the “Team of the Decades.” The Raiders relocated to Las Vegas in 2020 and made a playoff appearance in 2021.

The Raiders have 30 members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, including owner Al Davis.

Not a lot of effort put into the game

by Nfl fan on 2019-08-25IG Field (Formerly Known as Investors Group Field) - Winnipeg

Nothing really for pregame festivities which was disappointing. It also seemed like both teams didn’t really ant to be there. Disappointing for a true fan. Then there was all the last minute non sense about the field I’m not even going to get into. That being said my friends and I made the best of it and had a good time

It was a bit dull. No major players.

by Sjsharksfan on 2019-08-25IG Field (Formerly Known as Investors Group Field) - Winnipeg

We enjoyed the Bombers game the week before better. This was ho hum and a bit dull to be honest.

Pay huge money to see no starters playing on a shortened field.

I went with my brother, and we just had a lot of fun, for me it was a wonderful experience for a hundred bucks each.

    Not great

by Me on 2019-08-25IG Field (Formerly Known as Investors Group Field) - Winnipeg

Expected a lot more Especially from all the hype The most exciting part of the night was the crowd doing the wave The promoters should not have promoted having the starters

    Short on Entertainment

by R. K. on 2019-08-25IG Field (Formerly Known as Investors Group Field) - Winnipeg

With the shortened field and non-starters the game turned out to be a typical exhibition game. No goal line stances and the players had to adapt to a shortened field. Fans tried to make the most of a poorly prepared game. Raiders cheerleaders and announcer were a nice touch.

    Pac/Raiders

by Bop on 2019-08-25IG Field (Formerly Known as Investors Group Field) - Winnipeg

Disappointed, dissatisfied. 80 yard field. Usually after the third preseason game you see some starters. Didn't happen. Spent good money to see this. Never again. Rather have spent my money on a good charity.

Was this the "NFL" game Winnipeg fans were sold? No.

by L. K. on 2019-08-25IG Field (Formerly Known as Investors Group Field) - Winnipeg

The fans from both sides were fun and friendly, and the staff at IG Field were excellent. The product we paid for. Not so much. For starters, the Packers side complained about end zone field goal turf patchwork and pulled over 30 starting players, siting player safety. Despite the fact that countless NFL teams play in Oakland on a modified baseball diamond with hard packed gravel at odd irregular angles. So they shortened the field to 80 yards, and no kick-offs. It was a total farce. I am not sure what I watched there or what exactly I overpaid for, but I was happy to see the Blue Bombers CFL team playing on tv the next day. I am disgusted with On Ice Entertainment for blowing this game so badly. Next to no advertising until a week or two before the game, zero starters despite that being the main draw. Boo NFL. I will watch the CFL thank you. Fewer prima donnas.

    Very Disappointing

by Born2Shop on 2019-08-25IG Field (Formerly Known as Investors Group Field) - Winnipeg

If they were going to play on a modified field, they should have just played on the CFL field. All the spectators, including us, paid a lot money to be there and at the last minute the teams didn’t play the starters. That was not the experience we paid for. Very disappointing.

    Horrible

by Packer Fan on 2019-08-25IG Field (Formerly Known as Investors Group Field) - Winnipeg

Expensive tickets, field conditions sucked. Played on 80 yard field with no kickoffs. Most starters did not play.

    Oakland / Greenbay

by Me on 2019-08-25IG Field (Formerly Known as Investors Group Field) - Winnipeg

I don’t think this event was properly supported with appropriate advertising and promos . The players are really talented. The decisions on so called player safety indicate how far the league officials and administration are removed from reality. They fear a little bump in the end zone , yet 3 players are taken off the field on ATV’s because of dirty play.. Go figure.

    Disappointment

by B. I. on 2019-08-25IG Field (Formerly Known as Investors Group Field) - Winnipeg

My wife & I are huge NFL fans. She a Packer's fan, me a Steeler's fan. We have gone to games in Green Bay & Pittsburgh (2). We got premium seats for this game (45 yard line, Row 3, Packer's sideline). We had hoped for the NFL experience here. That didnt happen. I'm still stunned at the debacle that resulted in the teams playing on an 80 yard field and the Packer's sitting ALL their starters and the Raiders most of theirs, because of a field issue. What could have been a great experience turned out to be a just ok experience.

Promoter and NFL were ill prepared

by Rej on 2019-08-25IG Field (Formerly Known as Investors Group Field) - Winnipeg

Total debacle by the NFL and the Promoter. Just because we're Canadian they figured we would pay an arm and a leg for these tickets and it backfired. Festival like activities by the NFL and promoter never happened. It was a fly in fly out game. Exactly what they said they weren't going to do.

Boring. On an 80 yard field

by R. T. on 2019-08-25IG Field (Formerly Known as Investors Group Field) - Winnipeg

    Over priced disappointment

by Square8 on 2019-08-25IG Field (Formerly Known as Investors Group Field) - Winnipeg

Over paid for such a poorly planned event. Only to see them slash prices the week of. No starters playing as advertised, an 80 yard field. So disappointing. Should be refunding customers who bought at full price only to see their ticket prices slashed in half after.

    Awful promoter, fun atmosphere

by Seahawks Fan on 2019-08-25IG Field (Formerly Known as Investors Group Field) - Winnipeg

The promoter should be run out of business for overpromising and underdelivering in an epic fashion. But, in spite of his incompetence, it was fun thanks to all the other fans who came out and gave the place an entertaining atmosphere. Glad I went because the NFL surely won’t be coming back here.

Complete debacle. Not even close to the event promised

by S. K. on 2019-08-25IG Field (Formerly Known as Investors Group Field) - Winnipeg

Shortened field and a bunch of wanna-be players. Not even remotely close to a 3rd week nfl preseason game

    Disappointed, to say the least

by S. on 2019-08-25IG Field (Formerly Known as Investors Group Field) - Winnipeg

The price of tickets without top players was disappointing and with the amount of tickets left unsold, upgrades to sit closer should have been offered. The field set up being the incorrect size and the yard lines being incorrectly marked made the event an embarrassment for our city. As these were a gift for my husband, I wish I’d spent my money elsewhere - as a lifelong GreenBay packers fan, this was a highly disappointing.

    Disappointed in the NFL

by J. M. on 2019-08-25IG Field (Formerly Known as Investors Group Field) - Winnipeg

From too high ticket prices to an 80 yard field. Every step of this event was one in the wrong direction. I’m not even upset about them sitting all the stars, I just wanted to see a football game. I suspect that’s the last time they will come to Winnipeg, perhaps Canada for that matter, and I’m okay with it; unless they put on the game we paid for and deserve.

    Rip Off

by JL on 2019-08-25IG Field (Formerly Known as Investors Group Field) - Winnipeg

The only thing the NFL succeeded at was letting us believe they’d actually put in a solid effort for the game. Terrible experience, over priced tickets, and a real let down.
