    Ehh

by Topie64 on 2016-06-21Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Not sure what to expect. It was great to see her in person. They say she will stay on stage for pics after the show, she does not...take your pictures whilst you can...do not wait till the end. Has great stories, from a great life.

A missed opportunity by a television Icon

by CBfans on 2016-06-21Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Carol Burnett's magnificent career needs no commentary from me other than to agree with all the great things that have been said before and the enjoyment she brought to my family watching her show. She had the best team behind her from writers, costume designers , musicians, and fellow cast members. Most of her Vancouver show was dedicated to taking questions from the audience and almost every question came with a story of love for her and how much she had influenced their lives. With all this love flowing to her I would have expected her to give some love back in her performance, because after all that is why we all love her. What she gave us was a tiny little screen suspended in the middle of the stage that more resembled a TV set than a big screen, which was used to play a few clips from her past shows. To compliment the little screen was a little sound system that crackled and struggled to reach a volume level that could be heard. Our seats were 28 rows back and I struggled to hear the sound and when I could hear it was distorted and muddy. She told some great stories about her early days and some of the great talents she was associated with which was a real treat. If I was in her position doing this tour I would have paid homage to my adoring fans by giving them a whole lot more of a show than what she delivered. For starters I would have set up 2 big screens, one for each side, and would have had my image projected on both in between clips. I would have set up a fantastic sound system that was better than what I had at home. Just dealing with these technical issues would have significantly raised the enjoyment level. Aside from that, being a television Icon and superstar I would have put on a show becoming of my accomplishments and sent my fans home with an experience they would be talking about for years and honouring them for spending their hard earned money without hesitation just to come and see me. I would probably reconnect with the responsibility that comes with being given a great gift and the gratitude that people still found value in what I have to give. The comments I heard from others after the show were consistent with my thoughts which made me sad to think of what could have been possible with some minor adjustments. I have attended performances of Icons from the past that have confirmed their greatness despite their age and left me inspired and enthusiastically singing their praises to everyone. I wanted so much for this to be one of those.

    Carol Burnett in Vancouver

by Wahini on 2016-06-21Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

I thought her show was awesome and very nostalgic. She had clips of her show that she shared periodically on some of the highlights. It was amazing to hear of all the stars that she networked with, many of whom were on her show as guests. I think it would have been great to see Vicki Lawrence appear with her as well

    Worth seeing but over-priced

by NorthVanGuy on 2016-06-21Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

First the positive... it was a unique opportunity to see and hear a legend of comedy who I grew up watching on TV. She was warm and authentic and she shared some great stories. Unfortunately for the price of the tickets ($100 each) I just expected a bit more. The show was only about an hour and 10 minutes, and when she finished the lights came on right away and immediately people stopped applauding and started leaving. There was no encore or return to the stage, but I think the crowd cheated themselves out of at least a final bow from Carol. I also think there was a general feeling of disappointment. I heard comments like "well, she is in her 80's" as we headed to the exit.

    What a Memorable Evening!

by MJGod on 2016-06-21Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

This show brought back a lot of great memories from my childhood. Carol Burnett has been one of my favorite comediennes and it was so wonderful to hear such wonderful stories from her amazing career. I only wish the show was longer.

Carol Burnett was the best night out!!

by SiriusTrucker on 2012-03-07Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

I wasn't sure what to expect as I have never been to a comedy show before, but knew because it was Carol Burnett, it would be spectacular. That didn't even come close to describing the show. I cannot remember a night that I laughed soooo hard! If you loved the Carol Burnett show, you will without a doubt, love this show. The clips that she played from her TV show brought back so many, many good memories. Absolutely recommend this show to anyone who is thinking about going.....don't think....go!!!!

    Not as entertaining as expected

by dsds on 2012-03-01Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

Firstly, Carol Burnett is an comedic icon and the fact she's still able to do such performances at this age is quite amazing. I grew up watching Carol Burnett and Friends on TV with my Mom and we both loved it. There are moments from that show that in my opinion have never been equaled in any other comedy/variety show. I took my Mom with me to see this one and she loved every second of it but in reality, she'd have a great time at a wake. Why I was disappointed: 1) by far the funniest moments of the night were from old show footage shown on the screens in the theatre. I've seen them a million times and can call them up on youtube anytime I want. There was probably about 30 mins of the show taken up by this. The show opened with at least 10 mins of old footage that prompted a lady sitting in front of my to ask "where is she?" 2) when people asked questions from the crowd it was clear that they had idolized Carol for decades. Understandably people wanted to shake her hand, hug her, etc. Whenever people did this she seemed uncomfortable and tried to talk the person out of it. It was awkward. All these people paying big money to see someone they grew up with on TV and you'd think this has happened before with these performances and she should have a plan for it. 3) several people wanted to know her secret being so fit, vibrant, and energetic at her age. She didn't answer any of these questions at all. Didn't even attempt to. Yes, I know we live in an age when celebrities' private lives are plastered all over public places but if you're doing this kind of one-on-one with your fans I think you've got to give a little something. 4) you have to really have been a super fan (which I guess I'm not quite there) to find this good entertainment value for the money.

An awesome evening. A living legend. I felt privileged to be in the same room as her. We laughed so hard my chest hurt and my make-up ran down my cheeks. She is a very classy lady.

An example of class for the ages

by wifflehead on 2012-02-19Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

Ms. Burnett demonstrated to an appreciative crowd (who started the evening with a standing ovation and ended it in the same way) the reasons why her show was a deserved television classic. Quick to laugh and kind to a fault, this consummate professional comedic actor bravely and magnanimously entertained questions and maudlin requests from audience members while resisting any attempt to be provoked into negative pronouncements about today's generation of funny women. Demonstrating the class and experience of a true legend, Carol complimented a whole new generation and gave her stamp of approval by saying she think the torch has been successfully passed. Clips and stories and remembrances of those greats who shared the stage with her show over the years and whom we have lost left an entire audience nostalgic about a truly admirable show business career. What a great way to begin the Comedy Fest, Brave.

only as good as the questions!

by sadnothappy on 2012-02-19Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

There truly was not any new material in this "performance". All the clips have been seen on her specials and if you are a fan, you have seen them all. Also, if you are a true fan, you have all her DVD's and all the material is there and on YouTube. A Q&A, like improv, is only as good as the questions, and if the questions are blah, then there isn't anything for her to come back with. And this was the case at this "performance". Not worth the money for the seats to see fans go up and "hug" Ms Burnett, shake her hand, give her items and watch her sign things. I would not go see anything like this again. My husband slept through a lot of the show.... boring.

I'm so glad we had this time together with Carol!

    by Bunky1234 on 2012-02-19Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

Wonderful memories and nice to feel like Carol was really speaking to 'you'. Video clips were great reminders of why we love her! Only drawback was that "no flash" photo ops were not allowed during the performance. Carol was gracious to those who wished to hug her and still had the quick wit that she entertained us with for all those years. She looks incredible and made us feel like we were in her living room.........very comfortable.

Carol Burnett: as funny as ever..!!!

by BREAKALEG on 2012-02-19Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

The Show was film clips from some of her old shows with Harvey Korman, Tim Conway, Vicki Lawrence, Lyle Waggoner and other stars appearing on her show. Some of them were hilarious. Carol was so neatly dressed and she stood for the first part of her act. She also fielded questions from the audience, and, at her age, she was so quick to respond with a funny reply. She also told some personal stories which were very interesting. The only thing which I can say was poor, was the sound. My guest and I missed some of the quips, punch lines as the sound was either low or garbled. We sat in the 13th row, RC. Otherwise I would highly recommend you see this...toooo funny..!!!!!

    Laughing til I cried!

by Blacknocturne on 2012-02-19Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

The Carol Burnett Show kept me laughing all through my turbulent teens and then kept me laughing as I attempted the "grown up" world... Her show was touching, filled with hilarious clips and great memories. She is still amazing and funny and as we were in the 3rd row I was blown away by seeing an idol of mine so close! When she sang along to "I'm so glad we had this time together"...well you can imagine...tears and nostalgia...what a combination. Excellent evening with friends. I would absolutely go again and encourage anyone to go. I will never forget!!! Thank-you Ms. Burnett!!!!
