Cameron Mackintosh presents the acclaimed production of Boublil and Schönberg's Tony Award-winning musical phenomenon, Les Misérables. This brilliant staging has taken the world by storm and has been hailed as "a reborn dream of a production" (Daily Telegraph).
Set against the backdrop of 19th century France, Les Misérables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption-a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. The magnificent score of Les Misérables includes the songs "I Dreamed a Dream," "On My Own," "Bring Him Home," "One Day More" and many more.
The actors/actresses did a great job. However the sound was not consistent throughout and it was hard to hear at times.
My favourite musical for the past 30+ years. And the new set design was superb. Only recommendation is to request Apple or other smart Watches also be turned off. It was extremely distracting.
Fun, great actors, great live music, great set design... just an overall great experience!
Les Mis is one of my favorite shows. This particular production was by far the best yet. Bravo!
What a great version of Les Mis this was. So blown away by how amazing every single singer was. And the lighting was top notch. I don’t remember seeing this play with such realistic and beautiful lighting. It was all fantastic and go see it if you can!
In my opinion, nothing could be improved on in the production of Les Miserables that I saw on Saturday. Every aspect of the production was A1, from the music, to lighting, to sound, etc., etc. Everything was of the highest standard. Individual solos were awesome, particularly Bring Him Home which had me in tears. I cannot express enough how I impressed I am also with all aspects of the evolution of the NAC's standard of client service. Not having returned to the NAC in over 15 years I certainly enjoyed being able to sip my rum at my seat during the performance. And was truly impressed by the ease with which we women were guided through the washroom maze. Bravo on all counts!
Just loved everything in the show. Timeless music and singing. Such an enjoyable experience.
The performamces, set design and effects as well as the ochestra and sound were all amazing. The staff at the NAC were also so helpful. I had a wonderful experience
We are not pleased that the best seats are reserved for American Express. There should be equal opportunity. We found the stage settings were too dark and the orchestra too loud. The orchestra drowned out the words. Overall, the musical was very well performed but not up to the previous performances we have attended.
We were sitting in the front row of the amphitheatre, almost centre and couldn’t make out the words being sung, especially when it was a group song. The singing was great but it made it hard to follow the story.
The cast was absolutely amazing. The singing and performing were so well done. The stage design was beautiful. I loved it.
I saw the original production in London at 15, when my son was 15 we took him to see a production at the NAC, and this year my daughter is 15 and we saw this production. All of them have different flavours, all were excellent. Staging, choreography and chorus work were so excellent! Stand out performances for Marius, and the Thénardiers. Was disappointed in Cozette's death scene and Empty Chairs at Empty Tables, which usually hit hard but did not this time. Definitely work seeing!
Wonderful performance tonight of Les Misérables at the NAC in Ottawa. It was the second time I've seen a production of the show, the first was in Washington, D.C. in 2001. That was a larger production. However, the Broadway Across Canada tour's closing show in Ottawa was brilliantly staged in the tight confines of the NAC. I was far more entertained by this current staging of the show that first hit the boards in Paris in 1980 and the English adaptation began running in London in 1985! I'm now inspired to read Victor Hugo's 1862 novel. It's a complicated and lengthy story to tell, but it is filled with drama, laughter, spirituality and tragedy. The entire cast was terrific and never missed a beat with superb vocals. Yes, there were tears on my cheeks (during Bring Him Home). Bravo!
The show was incredible. The singers were amazing . The combination of modern technology wth old school scenery created a seamless set of visual special effects
A great story, amazing cast and the music is phenomenal. This is my second time seeing this, first time was late 80’s You will not be disappointed 24601 ❤️
Absolutely phenomenal production from start to finish but the sound quality at the NAC is off. At times it was muffled and often the orchestra drown out the actors.
The best voices I've ever heard! The stage sets were amazing, too.
I was worried 3 hours would feel like forever but it just zipped by. The acting was great by everyone (minus some fight scenes that were nowhere near convincing). The singing was the best part. Everyones voices were wonderful and that one guy held a high note for so long I don't know how he didn't pass out.
Everything about this performance was spot-on, from the orchestra, costumes, voices, scene changes and the magnificent barricade down to the small children.. How in the world the director ever managed all the place and scene changes I'll never know. Kudos to all!
The performers are really nice, the stage effect is great. Just the overall pace is too fast, if you have watched the 2012 film or 25th Anniversary performance, this touring is a 1.25x speed one.
