About

Cameron Mackintosh presents the acclaimed production of Boublil and Schönberg's Tony Award-winning musical phenomenon, Les Misérables. This brilliant staging has taken the world by storm and has been hailed as "a reborn dream of a production" (Daily Telegraph).

Set against the backdrop of 19th century France, Les Misérables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption-a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. The magnificent score of Les Misérables includes the songs "I Dreamed a Dream," "On My Own," "Bring Him Home," "One Day More" and many more.

A terrific production. The sets were mind blowing. The orchestra, singers, lighting were great, A truly professional production. The only weakness was the sound. In the big loud numbers the words were not clear. Oddly, though when the singing was soft, the words were as clear as a bell. I'm not sure if the orchestra was overpowering the singers in the loud numbers or whether there was a mike or soundboard problem

This was the fourth production of Les Mis that we have attended in Vancouver and the staging the set design and the acting best one yet, second half the voices were stronger then in the first half. Overall very enjoyable well done

  • Amazing staging and scenery

One of the best Les Mis we have seen, hainbg first seen in London 24 years ago, then Toronto about 22 years ago. Given the too small size stage for a production of Les Mis, the director and cast did an amazing job. Some great voices, excellent "crowd" scenes, yet with a small cast. Really enjoyed the show and would recommend to everyone. The orchestra was superb.

  • Les Miserables lives on!

    by Millie24601 on 2013-06-24Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5

Wow....finally watching the great musical of "Les Miz" after spending years listening to the amazing 1985 cast album met all my expectations!!! It was amazing!! And meeting the cast afterwords was extremely neat! All in all I wish to see it again and will continue singing those unforgettable songs! The only problem I had was the seating because I was quite far away from the stage and that did bother me a little bit. But beside that...WOW!

  • Always a fan!!

I watched Les' Miserables about 6 times and never get tired of it...Sure, it was better in London and Broadway but hats off to the cast and musicians..they did a great job!!

  • Les Mis at the QE Theatre, Van City

    by Jules777 on 2013-06-24Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5

We paid what I thought was a lot for these tickets, and thought we were getting nosebleeds seats, but the view from where we were was perfect. It was a tad far away to see the individual actors faces, but we definitely got the over-all impression. I would say that it was money well spent, and I'm very happy I attended.

  • Les Miserables

    by mbuff2 on 2013-06-24Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5

The new staging of the production is stunning. Most impressed with the imaging during the sewar escape and Javier's suicide. Bravo Cameron !! Being a Les Miz fanatic and having seen multiple productions I was disappointed with the casting of Jean Valjean, found him weak and inconsistent(would have preferred any one of the understudies) Fantine I found lacking as well. Have seen much better vocalist/actors in local theatre productions.Found the orchestra overwhelmed the performers during much of the performance. Therefore the 4 out of 5 rating. Madame Thenardier--PERFECTION!! she nailed it in every way.The overall production/staging etc is brilliant ! Will be looking forward to another tour. JMO

  • Great Show

Jean and Javert were sung and played perfectly. I thought the voice of Collete was a bit too soft. Eponime was brilliant. In many songs I found the singer hard to hear because the orchestra was too loud. The important songs were perfect That is I Dreamed A Dream....Bring Him Home... Empty Chairs At Empty Tables... Stars

  • Riveting performance of Les Mis

by mazmel on 2013-06-24Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

I have been to NYC many times and seen a lot of live productions - oddly enough not the great classic Les Miserables. The production itself was as professional as I would expect to see on Broadway. Talented cast from chorus to stars - well worth the price of the ticket. I would recommend that anyone not familiar with the storyline do a bit of background research prior to seeing the play - I was very glad I did.

  • SUPERB

by Woodhaven on 2013-06-24Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5

Les Mis is my all time favourite musical. I've seen it in London with original cast, have watched the 10th Anniversary at the Royal Albert Hall and the 20th Anniversary DVD's too many times; so I've spoilt myself for touring shows - or so I thought. But, this show was delightful and I loved every minute of it. Being picky I would say that Marius' voice is weak resulting in his character coming across as a little boy somewhat lost amongst a group of men. Jean Valjeans voice fell slightly flat at the end of his two main songs but in truth his performance was pretty wonderful. Knowing the words to each song and knowing the score inside out, I thought I wouldn't be emotional throughout the performance, but this cast got me to tears in Jean Valjeans death scene. Thank You to the cast.

  • Les Miserables was breathtaking!!!!

From the minute the cast hit the stage to the last scene, I was in a trance. I cried, I gripped my chair and I was blown away by the singing of all cast members, especially, the main character, Jean Valjean.

outstanding production, great vocalist, captured the audience completely

  • Nice, but too long!

by smallgirl on 2013-06-24Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 2 out of 5

Nice play, but too long to maintain attention. Could have ended at least 30 min earlier and the intermission needed to be sooner as well. I would not recommend it.

  • Les Miserables (Touring)‏ was amazing!

by JuneZ on 2013-06-24Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

I always love Broadway shows but have not got the chance to really visit New York and watch a Broadway show. It is really amazing I could enjoy Broadway show in Vancouver, Canada. Like last time I watched Lion King, this time is Les Miserables! Les Mis is really a special one for me, from watching the 10 years performance online with friends, to watching the movie, all the plots and numbers are kept in my mind. Although, I know the theater, the stage in Vancouver is not as big as the one in Broadway, but the whole cast, absolutely gave all the Van people an amazing night! Thank you very very so much!
