About

Cameron Mackintosh presents the acclaimed production of Boublil and Schönberg's Tony Award-winning musical phenomenon, Les Misérables. This brilliant staging has taken the world by storm and has been hailed as "a reborn dream of a production" (Daily Telegraph).

Set against the backdrop of 19th century France, Les Misérables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption-a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. The magnificent score of Les Misérables includes the songs "I Dreamed a Dream," "On My Own," "Bring Him Home," "One Day More" and many more.

  • The new and improved (?) Les Mis....

    by Canuck61 on 2013-06-23Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5

I've lost count of the number of times I've seen Les Mis......I think it's either 7 or 8 in both Vancouver and London over the years. The show at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre on Friday night was the new 25th Anniversary restaged version, and I must admit to being a little bit disappointed. Not by the amazing performances on stage.....they were faultless...but rather by the new, much darker, lighting and scenic effects. Gone was the revolving central stage, and in it's place new props and high tech visual backdrops. I felt that most of the key moments, like 'One Day More' at the end of Act 1, the student deaths on the barricade, and Javert's suicide, had lost the emotional impact of the original version. I know the old adage about change being good - but I feel that the revamped Les Mis has lost some of it's original magic... Some things shouldn't be messed with, Les Miserable in my humble opinion is one of them.

  • Les Mis is a Must-See Show.

This was the third version of Les Mis that I have seen and it's definitely the best one. The whole production was great. The acting, singing, staging, and musicians were flawless. I would definitely want to see this show again.

  • Les Mis was amazing!

by LoveForBroadway on 2013-06-22Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

Although all my experience with broadway is in Vancouver only i have been to at least a dozen or more shows and this is one of my top favourites. The singing was amazing. I could hear many from the audience trying to hold back their tears. I enjoyed it a lot. The cast was great.

Costumes were wonderful. Acting was strong and voices were marvellous. A very strong cast with amazing new props. We loved every minute and were sad when it was over. Of course we laughed and cried, but mostly we enjoyed.

  • Les Mis was fantastic

As always, Les Mis is my favourite show to see and this production didn't disappoint. The lighting of the actors seemed very dark and made it hard to distinguish at times who was singing. Other then that it was amazing.

  • Amazing amazing amazing!

I cannot put into words how incredible the show was. It was so great, I ended up seeing it twice (and honestly considering going again for a third time). I have seen the show before a few years back, but it was nothing compared to this. This cast exceeded all my expectations. Right from the first notes of Look Down all the way to the last notes of the finale, I was in awe. I feel bad for anyone who hasn't gotten the chance to see this show because it is truly mind blowing. Such an amazing experience.

Just wow. So beautifully performed....so many times i experienced waves of goose bumps! So immersive. Reminds me of a quote by T.Roethke: Art is the means of undoing the damage of haste.

  • Les Mis at the Queen E

    by Syd67 on 2013-06-20Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5

I went to Les Miserables at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Vancouver on Tuesday June 18th. I am a complete musical theatre buff and have known of the music of Les Mis for years. I also had recently seen the movie version of the musical. I was very excited to see a staged version of this musical. I enjoyed it, but had some concerns and thoughts about the show. There were a few stand out people in the show as being fantastic. Those characters were Eponine, who had a powerful voice and wonderful facial expressions. Javert had a gorgeous voice that would have captivated anyone, and compared to Russell Crowe, he was magnificent. Cosette did a beautiful job with such a small and shallow part that doesn't go into much detail. Enjolras had amazing intensity and a beautiful voice. Finally, Madame Thenadier was fabulous! She stole every scene she was in. There were, unfortunately a few negative stand outs, such as Marius, Fantine, and Jean Valjean. None of them had very incredible voices or facials that could be seen. The tempo of the songs was also very fast, without giving the actors much chance to pause for affect or to give us a chance to catch up. The sets, lighting, costumes and orchestra were amazing, hitting every mark needed to make the production look spectacular. Through these small critiques, the show was good, and was thoroughly enjoyed by my family.

  • Les Miserables

by Helen on 2013-06-20Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 3 out of 5

The sets decorations and changes between sets was excellent. Some of the special effects were extremely well done, such as Valjean walking through the sewers, Jobert falling off the bridge. The voice quality and acting was also very high standard. Les Miz is a dark, dismal story and I would have wished that when there was an opportunity for a little light and colour (Paris scene, the wedding, Fantine's return) it would have been taken. When the bright pink dress came out in the wedding scene, it almost stole the show when it should not have been a focus at all! The intimacy of a live theater production was lost in the size of the venue. Some clarity of voice was lost in the sound. I would have preferred some of the more vulgar sections be deleted. I was a bit uncomfortable in that there were children under 10 attending in the area I was sitting in (not my children).

Fine acting, superb sets, amazing orchestra and the singing was lovely.

  • This Miz mizzed

by JoelVancouverGuy on 2013-06-20Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 3 out of 5

Over all average because sound was not great in the hall. Could not hear all the words all the time. I have seen in NYC, London and I should have stopped there. I also saw the movie, so I am familiar with the best. I would only recommend if you have not seen. The cast was not bad. There was also what seemed like a mist or aura coming from the stage and the characters were not clear.

  • Les Miserables was memorable

  • Exceeded expectations

by mackate on 2013-06-19Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

Unforgetable experience, and I was so happy to share with my daughters and granddaughter. I bought the CD after and it is so enjoyable to listen to and repeat the music and story from the show. I found some of the sound from the stage wasn't as clear as it could have been The CD is so clear and precise that I will be able to enjoy Les Miserables at any time.

  • Epic!!

by TrudyB on 2013-06-19Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

The story is such that all characters are relatable. I found I felt each persons pain, soweow, love, happiness, loss, regret, loyalty, and need to fight for what they believed in. The set and how they move it was amazing too. They move seamlessly between sets and you flow through the scenes.

  • Les Mis better than Andrew Lloyd Webber's version

Just simply amazing. The voices on these guys is something that even someone not partial to broadway would revel in.
