What a tremendous evening spent with such talented musicians! Lyle and the extremely skilled music makers who shared the Jubilee stage performed a wide variety of numbers. Each player displayed his/her talents to the crowd's delight. Perhaps my favourite song was new to me..."Her Loving Man". Hats off to Leland Sklar, bass, and Russ Kunkel, drums as the sensational rhythm section. Lyle's casual discussion with the various band members throughout the evening made me feel like I was attending a jam session in one of the band's homes. So cool. Run , don't walk to see Lyle Lovett and Large Band. You will not be disappointed.
Hubby and I are not country fans but Lyle flattens the boundaries. He played for 2.5 hours with no break and the music was awesome. He has respect for the members of his large band. Instead of the usual 'name, where from' intro, each band member engaged in conversation with Lyle, reminiscing about their mutual collaborations, then got to highlight their own instrument. Definitely got our money's worth at his concert.
Lyle Lovett and his band of merry musicians did not disappoint! Close to 3 hours of excellent music and storytelling without any intermission, what more could one want.
I loved the way he interacted with the crowd. He spent a lot of time introducing his band members that was really interesting. Also, the band were all very accomplished musicians.
All 13 Band members were bleeding talent from mountains of experience, and Lyle was so personable that it seemed they were playing just for me.
I have been to many concerts ! This one was on the top of the list ! Thanks to all the musicians ! The variety of music “ from Beethoven to Bugs Bunny as Lyle said ! I loved every min ! That is till I got busted videoing a little gig ! Wonderful concert amazing venue and the overall atmosphere was warm and welcoming 🙏
Was an amazing show, loved his interaction with every band member and the audience.
Excellent showman, remarkable band - very tight, wonderful eclectic song selection covering a variety of genres
Maybe I'm just old but with such a great band and it's power very often we were left looking for his words. Even people in the front were asking for clearer vocals. Other than that a stellar night.
Lyle Lovett did not disappoint (as expected) - and the musicianship of his band was absolutely OUTSTANDING! I would pay to see him anytime.
We finally got to see Lyle Lovett in concert - Center/main floor, row T. His mic was cutting out throughout the show (or it could have been the speaker system)? What we could hear was awesome but the breaks were disappointing as he is an amazing entertainer and storyteller. We’ll try again the next time he comes through!
The Lyle Lovett Show was superb. He has chosen exceptionally talented musicians for his large band. Each of them were astounding when they performed their short solo pieces. Humor was tame and gentle. We all raised the roof with the gospel song that Lyle and the band performed when the audience stood for an encore. Lyle Lovett’s songs and singing were super. He has wonderful stage presence, so sweet and kind. One of his songs is, “Pants Are Overrated”. He said that his kids did not like clothes on when they were very young. He would put a sleeve on one arm and while he tried to put the sleeve on the other arm, the first sleeve would come off. Same with the pant legs. So, Lyle decided that really, they were being imposed upon to have to wear clothes. They are perfect as they are and they are God’s creation. When Lyle started to sing Tammy Wynette’s song, “Till I Can Make It On My Own”, I thought, “Oh no, only Tammy Wynette can sing that song right. However, Lyle Lovett was so stupendous that I could not wait until he finished holding the last note to “WOO - WOO!” him. He has my deepest respect and admiration for his singing since his genius performance of that song. Lyle and the large band are super versatile. They incorporate gospel, jazz, classical, bluegrass and songs for children in with basic country, like, “Till I Can Make It On My Own”, and every note is the part of a wonderful musical experience. I am so glad that Lyle and his large band came to Edmonton and I was there that night. If there had been more shows I would have gone to all of them.
Lyle's large band is excellent, and i really appreciated how he introduced the musicians, having a conversation with most of them so you learned something about them, very interesting. And when the full ensemble was going, wow, just fantastic. Unfortunately, only about half the songs were with the full band. With musicians like that, and the way it was marketed, every song perhaps with a couple of exceptions should have showcased the full lineup.
Was an amazing concert!!! Have been to several of Lyle’s concerts!!! Love the Large Band!!!!
What a wonderful opportunity to see some of the greatest musicians of the 1960’s to present day. The band was amazing. The sound was fantastic with the exception of the vocals for Lyle Lovett. A member of the audience even yelled out to “turn up your mic” but I don’t think it was a matter of volume but rather an important detail that was missed on the mic setting. It appeared to be rectified at the start of the encore.
Lyle Lovett is billed as a country singer, the evening was jazzy, blusey. I appreciate the great musicians he had with him. He has a great sense of humour, I found him hard to understand, lots of chatting which took away from the music I’d rather hear.
Generally speaking, I liked it a lot however I did think saxes & horns somewhat overpowered his voice at times. Perhaps we were sitting too close to the stage (about 6 rows back, centre, just behind the barrier. I would have liked to hear some of his more familiar songs and think his concerts are more enjoyable with 3 or 4 musicians, not 14. He had some interesting anecdotes and I like his gentle humor. Have seen him 3 times now but would probably not attend a 4th time if it was with such a large band.
Great concert Almost 3 hours without an intermission. Lovett is witty, personable and generous with the bandmembers, letting them shine too. Of course, the show was fabulous! My only beef is with those around me using their cellphones to record and blinding me in the process! And these were 65+types. People! You know better!
Unbelievable concert. One of the best. Class 1 entertainer. The Jubilee is always a great place to see performers. But please bring this man back. Loved it!
