A must do
by WPKR on 2023-06-09L'Olympia - MontrealRating: 5 out of 5Two strands really. The band. Well just excellent - with a catalogue of depth and breadth of crafted music and lyrics. As has been mentioned a band that people may shy away from which is a great shame for these people who probably still harp back to school days when to "in" you had to follow the recommendation of the music press. And where are those may fly bands now? Form is temporary, but class is permanent. And the band are class. And then The Weekender. My first one, but such a great way to see the band. A city worth visiting (between the concerts), wonderful venue but more relaxed gigs. Possibly because it's not "finish up, get packed and on to the next venue"? Scope to provide a mix of favourites, rarities and the current. And despite hearing so much that I wanted to hear on the first night I now realise that, with their outstanding back catalogue, there were so many more songs that could have been played. Getting back to a venue where you can feel the music hit you in your core, as opposed to rather soulless stadium gig where you watch the screen and hear music on delay, is a must to appreciate being fully be at a concert. If you get a chance to be part of a weekender - do so. And if you've not experienced Marillion to date - treat yourself!
