    Marquis was Marvelous

by FamilyB on 2013-05-31Centennial Concert Hall - Winnipeg

To see the culmination of a year of hard work by the students and teachers was lovely. I cannot imagine the hours of work that went into choreographing the dances....results were so beautiful. Miss Angelhas so much to be proud of.....Her staff are so dedicated. The rates are costly during the year, but worth every penny when you see the excitement on your daughter's face 2 nights in a row in anticipation of the recital. Our daughter was so excited to be part of this and share it with family and friends. Congratulations on another exceptional year!!!

    Always an exciting event.

I never check these ratings, but I find the rant written by the person called momme inappropriate and agenda driven. Not all kids at any given schools are professional performances that meet those standards. Not sure what she thinks four year olds are able to do... Having had many of our children go through Marquis Dance Academy, we always look forward to their annual recitals. Every year seems to outshine the next. The shows keep growing as the school grows and so congratulations to Marquis, we love it! We are exciting to see what you have in store for us this year. My family and friends who attend are always impressed by how strong all diffenrent dance disciplines are across the board.

    Creativeless spectacle

by momme on 2011-05-26Centennial Concert Hall - Winnipeg

The teens were well rehearsed and the choreography well done. Bravo. For the young children, I was appalled. I had been a professional dancer/choreographer for over 12 years and I found that there was NO DANCING with this young group. No free movement, no expression of movement or exploration of space (simple chassées with arms swinging for the Monkeys at least !). The same five moves for an entire cast of 100 kids, the only differentiation being their overdone costumes. Terrible musical montages, and poor use of space. The absence of choreography (a line dance is not a choreography, even for 5 year olds) and lack of creativity was very disturbing for such a school. The whole experience tasted of an overpriced, over-hyped, saccharine expression of a superficial image of dance. Very disappointed.

Very entertaining ... It was good to see that the program included all the age groups of the dance academy.
