Crowd was in awe!
by DBS on 2024-08-19Club Regent Event Centre - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5I think Marty Stuart thought the crowd was a little less enthusiastic and he spent a bit of time trying to liven them up. But in reality, I think most of us were in awe of how tight and supremely professional these guys are.
Marty’s voice is like velvet gravel. It’s inexplicable and his skills on the guitar and mandolin are indescribably legendary.
Chris Scruggs is the greatest bass player you’ve never heard of. Holy moly!! People were clapping and then just staring in disbelief at Chris’s deft plucking and slapping skills.
Harry Stinson is a legend and what I loved was how subtle his playing is. He doesn’t jump around or stand on his kit. He just plays a steady beat you can set your watch to while he looks like he’s relaxing on a chaise lounge. And he and Chris create vocal harmonies that sound like four guys rather than two.
Kenny Vaughn is a virtuoso guitarist. He’s an older cat who moves up and down the fret board like a 30 yr old on stims, with zero misses!
The crowd was quite a bit older than I expected. But I’m 60, so I’m not sure why that surprised me.
While Marty was exhorting us to get on our feet and stay there, we probably did our very best given all the bad knees and hips. Most us just sat with our jaws dropping.
Marty Stuart and his Fabulous Superlatives are the tightest, most talented and professional band I’ve ever seen play in Winnipeg. What a gift!!
