  • Mother Mother are underrated musical geniuses

by BinderDundat on 2012-11-25Bronson Centre - OttawaRating: 5 out of 5

It's almost relieving to remind myself that Mother Mother has only been around for 5 years or so, because they are the most underrated band I can think of. This is with respect to both live performance and songwriting (melody, harmonies, orchestration, lyricism....the whole shabang). Singer Ryan Guldemond is a true front man - he gave it 100% for 100% of show. And the same is also true for the rest of the band. Every song is memorable, and never monotonous. I only recently discovered Mother Mother, and never before have I become so familiar with a band/artist's repertoire in such a short period of time. These guys are absolute musical geniuses. I'm looking forward to going to every Mother Mother show I can in the future. Hannah Georgas, although a clearly talented songwriter, was a bit disappointing. For me this was because she does not possess the vocal 'punch' required to stand out over the deep electronic grooves. On the flip side, I imagine she would be incredible in a softer acoustic atmosphere....but that does not seem to be the realm where she wants her music to reside.

  • Hey, it's fun getting your head blown off...

by soulmoxie on 2012-11-25Bronson Centre - OttawaRating: 5 out of 5

The opening act was bland and uninspiring, and I just sat there wondering what they hell I had come there for, and then Mother Mother takes the stage and Ottawa is given a lesson on what rock n roll is all about. Everything was superb, the lights, the musicianship, the intensity, the energy. I have never seen an entire crowd get to its feet and then STAY THERE for the entire show. One big party hole blasted in the mind-space. With the two girls on each side it was like some futuristic mutation of the B-52s, and Ryan's like one incredibly hopped-up version of Fred Schneider... The whole show was great, and highly recommended.

  • Great show as always!

Always a pleasure to see Ryan Guildemond and the band perform, with all the enthusiasm and energy they bring to every show. Lighting was superb and sound was pretty spot on, considering how rustic the venue was.. Second time seeing them there, still a great time! Thanks!

An incredible performance by both bands. A great night of music.

  • Mother Mother is at it again

by athegreat on 2012-01-20The Gateway (SAIT) - CalgaryRating: 4 out of 5

This was the first time I have seen Mother Mother perform live and it was a great, entertaining show as usual. The crowd got quite rowdy but what's a concert without some pushing and shoving? It was interesting to see the band perform in a smaller venue from the previous two concerts they have performed in my city. It felt like a more personal show, however, the tickets did sell out faster than I think people expected and I know a few people who missed out on getting tickets. The show started late and there was a long intermission between the opener band and Mother Mother, pushing the show into the late night. Overall though it was a great show, I wish they had played a few more songs from their newest album, but hey I don't get to pick the set list.

  • Amazing!

Maurice were a little low key as openers. They were good, but not really what I was expecting as an opener for this band. Mother Mother were amazing however. I will definitely be going to see them again next time they are in town.

I saw Mother Mother at the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver, 12/29/2011. Fantastic venue, great energy and an outstanding performance by an extremely talented group of musicians. Mother Mother's unique sound, interesting lyrics and overall chemistry made for an unforgettable experience. Go see them and just try to keep from dancing.

  • My baby don't dance, but I do.

by dandiandi on 2011-09-20Sound Academy - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

One of the greatest concerts I've ever been to. Not only do they know how to put on a show, but I had such a blast dancing and jumping to all the songs! Very talented group of mucisians. I was disappointed, however that I didn't get to meet the band after :( I've heard such nice things about them off stage! I honestly wish them all the best and great success!

by JacquieF15 on 2011-04-19The Studio at Hamilton Place - HamiltonRating: 5 out of 5

Great show! The band are great entertainers and I liked every single song they played. Love their lyrics and the music!! Hope they hit the stratosphere, they are so unique and good with great stage presence! My daughter and her friend knew the lyrics to every single song and bounced all night long. Hope to see them again in Toronto!

  • What a night!!

    by Gabby004 on 2011-04-12MTS Centre - Winnipeg, MBRating: 5 out of 5

Saw Mother Mother on April 6th, 2011 in Winnipeg - it was the night of my life! They played a good mix of songs off of all three albums and it sounded just as good live as on the albums, if not better!!! Also was impressed to see that they played three encore songs and came out into the lobby afterwards for signing. Amazing band! Also had Whale Tooth for Toronto as an opener - great choice! Really set the mood for MM. Can't wait till the next time they come!!!
