About

LAURYN HILL IN CONCERT:

As a member of the Fugees and a decorated solo artist, the legendary Ms. Lauryn Hill broke new ground for female artists in hip hop, becoming one of the most dominant musical figures of the '90s and the first hip-hop artist to take home a Grammy for Album of the Year. With new material and a critically-acclaimed tour in 2013, Hill proved she hasn't lost her edge – or her voice – taking the stage with a full backing band and breathing new life into her catalog of hits with updated arrangements, extensive improvisation, and dramatic readings of her socially conscious verses.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Do not sleep on Lauryn! She is back. She was on point! This is what music has been missing!"

"The vibe was continuously raised to higher heights. What is quickly apparent is that this is no traditional act – from the beginning a very unique and nostalgic vibe is set through the familiar set list, but against brand new arrangements that drive the classic material head first into the multi-genre-infused present."

"Epic performance by Lauryn Hill. She killed it in every way possible. So happy I was able to be a part of it."

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Hill rose to international fame when the Fugees' seminal 1996 album The Score topped charts around the world, earning a Grammy for her spellbinding cover of Roberta Flack's "Killing Me Softly." The group’s dissolution in 1997 did nothing to hinder her success – 1998’s The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, her only solo studio album to date, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, landed a No. 1 single with “Doo Wop (That Thing)”, and took home five Grammys, including Album of the Year. A seasoned performer, Hill continued to impress fans in 2013 with her substance-over-style approach, building excitement for the much-anticipated 2014 release of her sophomore album Letters From Exile.

Fantastic, amazing, I love Lauryn Hill!

    by X-Factor on 2023-10-31Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

This is my third time seeing Lauryn Hill perform and I was not disappointed. Beautiful outfit, beautiful voice, captivating performance. Even though she was a bit under the weather, she gave it her all!

    So bad

by Juliana on 2023-10-31Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

Sound was HORRIBLE!!! I mean it! I knew not to expect too much from Lauryn Hill but pay 120 bucks to keep quiet so I could listen what song she was singing was too much

    really excited but disappointed

by ss on 2023-10-31Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

was expecting her to come out late. the showtime stated that she was going to perform at 8:30, we went for 9:30 as we knew she's notoriously late. She did not end up coming out until 10-on a Thursday might I add. The entire show there were issues with the volume, so much so we couldn't hear what she was saying when speaking to the audience. She took a break at 11:30 saying that she would be right out. Lauryn also does not have rights to her music so pretty much everything was remixed. My main annoyance was how late she expected everyone to be there, a Saturday or Friday night is understandable but on a Thursday when people have work and have to make a long commute back from Toronto seemed disrespectful on her teams part. One of the fugees weren't even present at the show.

    Review of Lauryn Hill

by Mareball on 2023-10-31Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

A little disappointing to be honest. She arrived almost 2 hours late for the show (and subbed in a DJ for entertainment). The only song she sang in full was To Zion. Everything else she just did soundbites for about 30 seconds - even her classics. Thank God Wyclef Jean showed up, he stole the show and brought it back to life. In all honesty, I almost left the concert, but when Wyclef Jean showed up, I stayed. It was definitely worth it in the end.

    True Ms.Hill fan

by Roxx on 2023-10-31Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

I didn’t care that she was late. I didn’t care that it ran over time. It was just bliss being there and hearing your teenage idol sing her heart out!!

    The sound equipment sux

by Fos on 2023-10-30Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

Well the show started late but ended on time so Scotia bank stole from us. You can tell Lauryn was struggling with her voice. Hope she heals well. Up in the 300s there's no speakers so the sound was garbage. The speakers at the front blocked pretty much our whole section from seeing the big screen. #freeprazwell

L Boogie or AKA Ms. Lauryn Hill and the Fugees;25 years

by Eve on 2023-10-30Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

My sis and l had a grand time with L Boogie and Wyclef. Missed Pras (stuck at the boarder) Ms.Hill said. She was a hour and 45 minutes late but it was well worth the wait!!!! She can sing and rap. No other artist can do that. Intermission at 10:30pm. Lol 😂 She told everyone don’t leave yet. She’ll be back!! Well, her and Wyclef put on an amazing show!!! Two gifted artists still doing their thing. Nice to see them reconciled. Well done!!!!!! Artists of today, this is how you do it!!!

    Sound Check

The concert sound was very muffled at times. In the 300 level seats the sound was not great.

    Not what I hoped for

by Malinda on 2023-10-30Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

I saw Lauryn in Toronto twenty five years ago and expectations were on point. Unfortunately the show at Scotiabank was disappointing. I know her voice is not in prime form which I can respect but everything was off. Sound, band, and Lauryn. Seemed like no one was in-sync. Lots of obstructions in the way for the screens. Scotiabank is also not the best venue if you want great sound. We knew Pras wouldn’t be in Toronto as he has been indicted on ten charges with the US government in April. It was distasteful that Lauryn and Wyclef chalked it up to he was “stuck at the border due to the Canadian government” Ummm nope - when tickets for this show went on sale everyone in the Fugees knew he would never be at this show. Overall it was a disappointment for many reason that weren’t just Lauryn.

Ms. Lauryn Hill brought down the house!!

by Sagittarian Queen on 2023-10-30Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

Ms. Lauryn Hill was late to start, had a little voice mishaps at the beginning but once she warmed up, Ms. Hill made us not regret the wait. She sang the entire album exactly as it was recorded 25 years ago. The reunion of The Fugees was the icing on the cake. ABSOLUTELY loved the entire show.I was not disappointed at all.

by KCOA on 2023-10-30Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

This show was amazing from beginning to end. Even the improv moments brought a lightness and joy to the experience. Every detail was perfectly curated, and made this one of my top 3 concerts of all time. Love it! ❤️

    Not the best

by Kira on 2023-10-30Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

This was probably one of the worst concerts that I have ever been to. Not only did the concert start 2 hours late, it felt like the stage set and everything going on around Lauryn Hill was not well planned. She came out in a huge pink dress with a vest over it, that she seemed to fiddle with most of the time taking away from her singing. As for her performance, the background band/music was so loud and trumped her voice to the point where you could hardly hear her sing. And as for her singing, most times it sounded as if she was screaming over the background music which made it very hard to sing along to the songs, let alone know which song she was singing. When you did figure out what she was singing, it was a different version of the song and was interrupted with her doing shout outs... We ended up leaving before the Fugees came on bc we could not stand the noise any longer. Felt like we wasted our money and the amazing seats that we had. A total disappointment. We grew up listening to her music and this was by far not what we expected. We will not attend another one of her concerts.

    Not the greatest

by Shana Brol on 2023-10-30Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

As per rumors, she was late. After an hour wait the DJ came out at 9:15 and then DJ played until about 9:45/9:50. She played until just after 11:30. I thought the sound was horrible, not sure if the music was too loud or if she was too close to the microphone but it was really hard to heard or understand anything she was saying. I know a number of people that left early because it was a bad show.

The concert left a lot to be desired.

by Eleni H on 2023-10-30Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

The sound was terrible. Being two hours late appearing on stage for Lauryn Hill was not cool. We were there at 7:30 p.m. We waited till 9 plus for the DJ (not necessary, even though she held the show somewhat) and till 9:50 for Lauryn Hill to appear. She was impressively dressed, looked huge, and her voice was not clear at all. The sound in general was terrible in the concert hall. Even when her son was doing reggae, the sound was not good. Not impressed at all.....

    Don't waste your money

by Disapointed on 2023-10-30Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

Although her voice was still impressive, Lauryn Hill has decided to take all the fun out of her concert by remixing every song to the point that you don't even recognize them. Add to that the fact that she got on stage at 10;00 and only did a few fugees songs and you end up with a waste of time. I have never been to a show where most of the fans in the area were sitting the whole time looking bored!

    Very disappointing

    by vats82 on 2023-10-30Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

I was very excited to go tho this show but was left very disappointed... First, the show started very late.. 10pm instead of 8h30 pm and the show itself was not what I was expecting. It was pretty hard to recognize her songs as she had changed them and the sound was not very good..We left after an hour..

    She’s done

by Jess on 2023-10-30Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

Regretting attending this concert. I’ve loved her music for 25 years and to see her be so wildly unprepared for a show was disheartening. Hard not to feel resentful listening to her music now.
