Beautiful music, exquisitely played. It's a shame the Chan Centre wasn't full for this concert.

    Celebracion P. Sanchez

Three warm up bands before the main event? Why? The sound for these bands was very poorly mixed with the horn section barely audible above the pian. Dee Daniels the MC between bands seemed the most lively person. I found the mix for Sanchez better but the 30 or so people who before the concert ended just from the balcony obviously didn't think so.

Not quite what I was expecting. All of the groups were comprised of excellent musicians who really felt their music and passed that on to the audience, and really delivered, so I really enjoyed it. When I booked the tickets I read the description and therefore expected some tango and samba and salsa, so I was disappointed in that, but is a personal preference and a misunderstanding; nothing at all to do with the performers or overall concert. The Pablo Sanchez group were almost insistent that people get up and dance. Don't get me wrong...I love to dance and I love salsa, samba and tango but for the most part , IMHO, this music was more listening jazz rather than dance music. Also, this is a concert that people paid a good amount of cash for so I, for one, was pleased that all the people in front of me didn't get up and dance. Towards the end people did file down and dance off to the side and in front of some seated people., which was distracting. The band seemed to feel the crowd was too quiet.. It was not that we were unappreciative, on the contrary, it was amazing but we wanted to listen and groove, not get up and dance and miss the moment. Cultural difference maybe but if I want to dance, the music is not always important, as long as it's got the sound I'm looking for it's okay. For a concert, I go to listen and choose those groups to whom I love to listen and whose music does something to me body, mind, and spirit. So, I didn't dance, I listened and grooved, and that's a good thing.
