New York Islanders History
The New York Islanders, also known as the Isles, celebrated 50 years as a franchise during the 2022-2023 season. The New York Islanders took the ice for the first time in 1972 and forged one of sports' greatest dynasties less than a decade after the franchise's inception. The New York Islanders are one of only two NHL teams to win four straight Stanley Cup Championships, and their legendary run of 19 straight playoff series victories remains unmatched in professional sports.
GM Bill Torrey's brilliant drafting during the 1970s stocked the Islanders roster with some of the game's greatest players. Defenseman Denis Potvin, right wing Mike Bossy, center Bryan Trottier, goaltender Billy Smith, and left wing Clark Gillies powered the dynasty and went on to the Hall of Fame. Coach Al Arbour joined Torrey and his five players in the Hall of Fame after finishing his career fourth all-time in wins. New York Islanders legends Butch Goring, Bob Nystrom, and John Tonelli are also forever enshrined on the rafters at UBS Arena.

New York Islanders at UBS Arena
Opened in 2021 as the new home of the Islanders, UBS Arena sits in Belmont Park — between Montauk and Manhattan — and is the only arena in Metro New York that was built for hockey. The New York Islanders played their first games at UBS Arena in the 2021-2022 season. The design of the arena is inspired by iconic New York landmarks, including Central Park, Grand Central Terminal, and the Park Avenue Armory. It also features the largest arena scoreboard in New York State.
The New York Islanders’ 2023–24 regular season kicks off in October at home as the Islanders face off against the Buffalo Sabres. The Islanders will participate in the 2024 Navy Federal Credit Union NHL Stadium Series — hosted at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey — against the New York Rangers on February 18. They play their final game of the regular season at home against Metropolitan Division rivals the Pittsburgh Penguins. Here’s a list of key games to keep an eye on:
Tickets for the 2023–24 regular season can be purchased on Ticketmaster, the Official Ticket Marketplace of the New York Islanders.
The Islanders have made five appearances in the Stanley Cup Final, and have won the Stanley Cup four times (in 1980, 1981, 1982 and 1983).

Great game! Actually very good facility for such an older arena. Long ride out from Manhattan with limited transport from train.
I have the goal of visiting all the NHL arenas. The Nassau Coliseum is old, Very old. The people working there did their best for the show. I liked their effort. Not many people showed up due to the blizzard. My team lost. Disappointed. Glad I saw the place. It needs to be part of history now..
I left feeling totally ripped off and will not go back to another pre-season game in Saskatoon again!! I realize that it was pre-season obviously! Still I have seen better hockey played by sixteen year old kids free of charge! If you are going to charge what you are charging, you should have more than one star per team show up!! Everyone else I have talked to feels the same way and apparently last year was worse!!
The game was very good and we had a good view from our seats considering they all seem to be lower than the average arena. The only annoying thing about that was when play went to the other end, it was hard to see due to shorter people infront of us standing up to see. But for what I paid and how close we were it was alright.
Waste of $400!!! The public was told that they'd have a better showing of players this year than they did last. It wasn't much better, I'd rather drive to Calgary or Edmonton and see the real thing.
Although there weren't too many stars playing in the game it was still fun to watch.
The only thing thaty I would of like to see is souviniers. That is one thing they could of done. seeings that you spend all this money on tickets a souvinier of the night would have been great.
I went to the event knowing that the teams would not have all of their "stars". The game was entertaining and Kipper made some great saves. I wanted to make sure that we would get a similar opportunity next year to attend another exhibition game.
The game was great . The seats were great too. would recommend these seats.
The game was great. It's nice to see at least a few "stars" but more important is to see good hockey, and the 3rd period was fantastic. It's always great when the players get into the game and play hard. The only drawback was leaving CUC. I understand closing the one gate to give easier exit to buses, etc, but it was closed way too long and delayed the exit way more than necessary. After such a good event, it was kinda sad to have to wait 45 minutes to exit the parking lot. I 've been to quite a few events (where there were considerably more people) and don't recall waiting that long to get out of the parking lot.
This was a pretty good game, considering both teams left the majority of their talent behind. You would think if they wanted to satisfy us fans, who cannot drive to a regular game due to distance, by bringing along the players we want to see. I understand that this is preseason play, but give us our money`s worth! I paid more than I would have if I had gone to a regular season game in the Saddledome, only to see players who are still hoping to make the roster, rather than the talent that this ticket sale money goes to keep on the team! If they can guarantee that the players will be there next year, I will return, otherwise they will not be getting my ticket money again.
It was a good hockey game, but at $90/seat, I would like to have seen more of the first line players playing. I could spend alot less money than that and watch the same calibre hockey players play.
This game was listed as an NHL pre-season game. The game we saw lacked the speed and quality of NHL caliber hockey. The only way i will buy tickets for an NHL game in Saskatoon is if it were a regular season game with regular season NHL talent. Very disappointed with my purchase. I wish Ticketmaster would give me my money back !!!!!!!
it was ok this time... considering we have seen NY twice now and calgary what 3 times now? i think you need to get other different teams in there because people are getting bored with preseason games involving calgary flames every year.. there was only 8,300 some fans for a game that wasnt exciting at all
Cool to watch NHL players but the crowd energy was lacking. Event was listed as sold out ages before the event but I bought tickets in section G the day of. There were several hundred empty seats.
It was great to see NHL in our Barn. Wish the cost was less to go because we were missing many of the best flames players. I will go again.
Once again the tickets were way too expensive for the event. There were only a couple players there that fans wanted to really see. The same thing happened last year and there were a lot of complaints, however I was told this year would be different, so I bought tickets. Huge disappointment once again.
Found the hockey game to be lacking in tallent and excitement due to the fact that some of the headliners did not play or even travel with the team. I understand that this is a preseason game and that the idea is to test new young players and such, but I think that next time I will not attend. Very expensive tickets to watch average hockey, I will continue to wsatch the WHL games here in Saskatoon and enjoy them.
well worth the money. Cheap night out for my family.
Great to see the NHL in Saskatchewan. It was an exciting game... Affordable parking, affordable drinks and food... Ticket was still 75% of a regular season game - but they played the B team - hardly any starters - No Iginla, no Jokinnen - disappointing. Would have been better to charge us 100% to see the first-liners - or 50% to see the B team.
