New York Islanders History

The New York Islanders, also known as the Isles, celebrated 50 years as a franchise during the 2022-2023 season. The New York Islanders took the ice for the first time in 1972 and forged one of sports' greatest dynasties less than a decade after the franchise's inception. The New York Islanders are one of only two NHL teams to win four straight Stanley Cup Championships, and their legendary run of 19 straight playoff series victories remains unmatched in professional sports.

GM Bill Torrey's brilliant drafting during the 1970s stocked the Islanders roster with some of the game's greatest players. Defenseman Denis Potvin, right wing Mike Bossy, center Bryan Trottier, goaltender Billy Smith, and left wing Clark Gillies powered the dynasty and went on to the Hall of Fame. Coach Al Arbour joined Torrey and his five players in the Hall of Fame after finishing his career fourth all-time in wins. New York Islanders legends Butch Goring, Bob Nystrom, and John Tonelli are also forever enshrined on the rafters at UBS Arena.

New York Islanders at UBS Arena

Opened in 2021 as the new home of the Islanders, UBS Arena sits in Belmont Park — between Montauk and Manhattan — and is the only arena in Metro New York that was built for hockey. The New York Islanders played their first games at UBS Arena in the 2021-2022 season. The design of the arena is inspired by iconic New York landmarks, including Central Park, Grand Central Terminal, and the Park Avenue Armory. It also features the largest arena scoreboard in New York State.

    Where was Iginla???

by Anonymous on 2010-10-01Credit Union Centre - Saskatoon

I am a huge fan of the Flames, I dont get to see them live as i live in Saskatoon and tickets are hard to come accross. So when NHL game is coming to Saskatoon i get very excited. I know it was a pre-season game but we never get NHL here so it would have been nice to send their good players. I am happy that they did bring more regular players then last year but come on, people want to see Iginla. Tickets were not cheap so it should have been a WOW event but it sure wasnt.......

    Not so great

by Froggy40 on 2010-10-01Credit Union Centre - Saskatoon

I have been to several NHL games, World Junior games, WHL games, and I found that this game lost the "Zip and Polish" that one expects at the NHL level. There were a few moments when some individuals displayed some NHL caliber, but they were few and far between. We as fans did not get our monies worth.

Game was little boring first 2 periods & crowd not really into it. Not much action. Game and crowd picked it up in 3rd though. Any chance getting Toronto to Saskatoon?

    Mediocre game.

by Anonymous on 2010-10-01Credit Union Centre - Saskatoon

Flames / Islanders game was okay but nothing special. Not enough big names in the game but you can expect this in a preseason game. The tickets are way overpriced for the value of the entertainment. This showed in the poor attendance. Drop ticket prices by 40% and you might have a chance to fill the place. Parking was terrible. Only 8000 people there and took forever to get out of the parking lot. CUC needs a better system for parking.

    Flames game disappointing

by dewey62 on 2010-10-01Credit Union Centre - Saskatoon

Second year in a row that I got conned into going to an NHL preseason game in Saskatoon. As expected, Calgary left their first line at home once again. Consequently, the game was quite a yawner. Numerous whistles and stoppages. I was more entertained by the Midget AAA game that I watched a few nights before the Flames game. Pretty sure that I won't be going again if they have another preseason game next year.

    Awesome Seats!!!

by LuvinNickelback on 2010-10-01Credit Union Centre - Saskatoon

This exhibition game was awesome, mostly due to our great seats that we got DIRECTLY behind the penalty box!! The line-up this year was slightly better than last year - at least Kiprusoff was at this game!! Same with Craig Conroy, Curtis Glencross, Adam Pardy, Giordano, Moss, etc. I think these exhibition games would DEFINITELY sell out if they can guarantee that Iginla would be there... the organizers are stupid for not doing this! Considering the crowd was extremely disappointed with the line-up last year, they could have done better by throwing Iginla in the mix for this year! Maybe they'll learn their lesson next year....! Otherwise, the game was great!! GO FLAMES GO.

    Way better than last year.

by HockeyNut on 2010-10-01Credit Union Centre - Saskatoon

Much, much better than the 2 games last year. Still pricey for a family to attend, when not all the members of each team's regular season line up plays. Most disappointed that 2 of the Flames highest profile players were not playing.

    Expectations too high

by Invictus on 2010-10-01Credit Union Centre - Saskatoon

It was my first NHL exhibition game. Sorry, but top players were missing, seats were expensive for the lack of stars present. Rookies didn't look like they were trying to make the team. Beer was $7. Credit Union Centre needs more ways to get out of their parking lot, and stopping traffic on the Yellowhead SHOULD NOT ever be a solution.

    Calgary vs New York

by Monsterdog on 2010-10-01Credit Union Centre - Saskatoon

It was great to see the NHL returning for more pre-season hockey. It was impressive to see some of the up and comers as well as some seasoned vets. Unfortunately after last seasons disappointment and lack of information about who was coming the turn out was not what I would have hoped for. If Saskatchewan is serious about wanting an NHL team they will have to do better than Wednesday night. I know it was pre-season and split squad but just over 8000 people?? That won't impress the NHL at all. My buddy and I had a great time and we have made plans to again if the NHL deems it worth while to return to Saskatoon>

    Flames Game

by Allison2609 on 2010-10-01Credit Union Centre - Saskatoon

The hockey game was an amazing experience. My son absolutely loved it. The fact that there were no souveniers to buy and no autographs to be signed, was incredibly disappointing for many people. It makes no sense that they would have no memorabilila considering we get a pre-season game once a year.

New York Islanders vs. Ottawa Senators

by Sweetfeet on 2010-04-04Nassau Coliseum - Long Island

My son and I had a great time. I've gone to see the Maple Leafs and Buffalo Sabres in the past, and I would have to say that the New York Islanders vs. Ottawa Senators game was the most fun that I have ever had at a professional hockey game. There was always something going on, which is what I'm used to seeing at a Toronto Raptors game. This makes the whole experience that much more fun for everyone involved.

TIME TO BUILD THE LIGHTHOUSE PROJECT

by Anonymous on 2009-10-26Nassau Coliseum - Long Island

I'M AN ISLANDERS FAN FOR DECADES. LAST TIME I WENT TO LONG ISLAND WAS IN PLAYOFFS OF 1993. THIS NEW TRIP WAS A TRIP IN THE PAST (I'M NOT TALKING ABOUT THE SOUVENIRS). THE BUILDING SET UP IS VERY OLD, NOT MUCH APPEALING. THEY NEED THE LIGHTHOUSE PROJECT AND IF THEY CAN'T GET IT, THEY SHOULD MOVE TO QUEENS WHERE THEY'RE READY TO HELP BUIDING THE PROJECT. THERE IS NO MAIN SOUVENIRS SHOP (JUST LIKE 20 YEARS AGO). I WENT TO BUFFALO, MONTREAL AND OTTAWA AND THE FACT THEIR BUILDING AND SET-UP ARE NEW, IT ADDS TO THE EXPERIENCE. I'M A HABS-HATTER, SO I'M NOT SAYING THEY'RE GREAT...

    not worth the money
