New York Islanders History

The New York Islanders, also known as the Isles, celebrated 50 years as a franchise during the 2022-2023 season. The New York Islanders took the ice for the first time in 1972 and forged one of sports' greatest dynasties less than a decade after the franchise's inception. The New York Islanders are one of only two NHL teams to win four straight Stanley Cup Championships, and their legendary run of 19 straight playoff series victories remains unmatched in professional sports.

GM Bill Torrey's brilliant drafting during the 1970s stocked the Islanders roster with some of the game's greatest players. Defenseman Denis Potvin, right wing Mike Bossy, center Bryan Trottier, goaltender Billy Smith, and left wing Clark Gillies powered the dynasty and went on to the Hall of Fame. Coach Al Arbour joined Torrey and his five players in the Hall of Fame after finishing his career fourth all-time in wins. New York Islanders legends Butch Goring, Bob Nystrom, and John Tonelli are also forever enshrined on the rafters at UBS Arena.

New York Islanders at UBS Arena

Opened in 2021 as the new home of the Islanders, UBS Arena sits in Belmont Park — between Montauk and Manhattan — and is the only arena in Metro New York that was built for hockey. The New York Islanders played their first games at UBS Arena in the 2021-2022 season. The design of the arena is inspired by iconic New York landmarks, including Central Park, Grand Central Terminal, and the Park Avenue Armory. It also features the largest arena scoreboard in New York State.

    Hockey game a BUST!

by Notveryhappy on 2009-09-20Credit Union Centre - Saskatoon

This was a big waste of money! Neither Calgary or New York played any of their good players, all you seen were rookies and want to bees trying to make the back spots on the hockey team. Going to a Blades game would have been way more exciting. They soaked you $10.00 for a program and there were pages for autographs but there was no autograph sessions and there were no stars there for autographs anyway! This was only worth like $30.00 per ticket... next time I will drive to Edmonton or Calgary during regular season to see the real stars for the money you paid... Very Poor...

    NHL hockey in Saskatoon

by notforme on 2009-09-20Credit Union Centre - Saskatoon

I could not believe that none of the big name players were on the ice in Saskatoon. I purchased 4 tickets in the hopes that my kids would have an opportunity to see a couple of the greats. Had I known, I would have taken a pass or at least purchased the cheap tickets. This could be advertised better. Felt ripped off.

    Preseason NHL sucks

by flamesfan177 on 2009-09-20Credit Union Centre - Saskatoon

The game action was good. Neither team played any of their stars. For a bunch of young NHL prospects, we could have gone to a WHL game for a quarter of the price. If they come for preseason again, count me out!

    Amazing Experience!

by LuvDolphins on 2009-09-20Credit Union Centre - Saskatoon

I had never been to an NHL game and figured that this might be my only opportunity. I am so glad I went. Seeing Credit Union Centre filled with so many people was absolutely amazing!! The atmosphere is so filled with energy. I am going again tonight to see the Oilers and the Islanders play. Can't wait!!!

    parking????

by xing on 2009-09-20Credit Union Centre - Saskatoon

The game was good. But getting out of the parking lot was a nightmare. The so called parking attendants did NOT have a clue what they were doing.

    Awesome Game

by Wiebesta on 2009-09-20Credit Union Centre - Saskatoon

This was my first NHL game and I'll never forget it. The superstars weren't there as it was a preseason game but they still had some big names there. The NHL doesn't come here too often so I would recommend this to any fan. My team lost but it was still one hell of an experience.

    after game traffic control sucked.....

by grumpybear on 2009-09-20Credit Union Centre - Saskatoon

Traffic control after the game was shameful!! Over shadowed the event. Entertainment not bad. Good calibre hockey. We now know why we don't ever go out to events out there. This time the traffic control was the absolute worst we have ever experienced. Ugh

    WHL GAME

by bikejockey on 2009-09-20Credit Union Centre - Saskatoon

The best WHL game I have ever watched. No Iginla, Beaumeester, Kiprosoff, Phaneuf, Taveres, Weight. The biggest name on the ice was Dwayne Roloson and he played excellent for the period and a half that they left him in.

US and Canadian Hockey at its best

by Vikingwoman on 2009-09-20Credit Union Centre - Saskatoon

This was the first time that I attended a hockey gameat the TCU and I must say that I do not think there is a bad seat anywhere throughout the place. I was up in the upper floor and looking down ona full sheet of ice with nothing to block my view from the exciting game that was taking place before my eyes. The Calgary Flames are always a hit and the red jerseys scattered throughout the fans added to the excitement of the game. The teams were very well matched and the game was within a point for almost the entire game which makes it a nailbiter. I had a great time and would definitely go again!

    Disappointing Performance

by Flamesfan2354959302 on 2009-09-20Credit Union Centre - Saskatoon

Very disappointed that Calgary brought none of their star players out and only a few guys who have played on the team in years prior. Islanders did not dress Tavares which I was looking forward to watching him play most of all. I understand it is exhibition, but I also understand that if you want these events to be successful in the future you have to give the fans a reason to come back. I will not be paying for my family to come to watch an exhibition game next year and that is sad because I love hockey and am glad we get the opportunity to have an exhibition game hosted here.

    Disappointing.

by MonkeyMan on 2009-09-20Credit Union Centre - Saskatoon

Paid NHL prices to watch AHL hockey. Not dressed Iginla, Jokinen, Phaneuf, Bouwmeister, Streit, Tavares and just about every known NHL'er. Roloson and Sarich played along with a few 4th liners and minor leaguers. Would have been nice if they had dressed at least one NHL line. Been to many sports venues across North America, never seen anything even close to the horrendous parking situation at Credit Union Centre (45 minutes before we could even move our vehicle), locals tell me it has always been bad and nothing has ever been done to improve it. Will never return to that venue for anything. Was thinking of World Juniors but forget it.

    No Regular Season Game

by Husser on 2009-09-20Credit Union Centre - Saskatoon

Not sure if it's worth the price of admission to watch a bunch of guys of whom 90% of them won't make the team. There were only 2 or 3 NHL players and the rest were lifetime farm team players. Probably won't go to another pre-season game.

    NHL in Saskatoon

by Ambie on 2009-09-20Credit Union Centre - Saskatoon

It is always awesome when the NHL comes to Saskatchewan because it gives lots of fans an awesome oppurtunity that they don't normally have. The energy was awesome and the wave made it around cuc a few non-stop times. Will definately go again when the NHL is back.

    terrible

by bearskin81 on 2009-09-20Credit Union Centre - Saskatoon

I was extremely disappointed with the game first of all there was absolutely not one superstar for either team playing and also my seat (that i paid 67.50 for) didnt say anything about obstructed view ( camera man in front of our seats).

    Disappointed

by Squats on 2009-09-20Credit Union Centre - Saskatoon

We were extremely disappointed that Calgary did not play any of their top players. (no offence to the guys that were playing). I would have thought that Robyn Regehr should have been a sure thing, considering he would be a hometown boy here. I realize that there are probably some decisions that need to be made but even some limited ice time by a couple of stars of the game would have been nice for people paying $80 to see a pre-season game.

    Flames line-up fizzles

by Hermie on 2009-09-20Credit Union Centre - Saskatoon

It would have been appreciated for the Flames to dress a few of their big name players for the game. I think there were alot of dissapointed True Calgary flames fans(young kid's) with that line up. The Islander's had better dress Tavares tonight or I think they can kiss these same crowds for next year's camp good-bye.

Islander vs Flames ...hoping for more

by gosharksgo on 2009-09-20Credit Union Centre - Saskatoon

Overall the game was entertaining. It was educational to watch the systems at work. The powerplay vs penalty kill and the five on five. We had seats up high along the goal line in order to pick thing up and watch the play develop. I would have reviewed it high, but was disappointed that more of the 'real' team was not playing. The problem was not the seating but the blue cutain obstructing a view of the near corner. This was very disappointing. Who ever decided the curtain should only be pulled back that far, never thought about the view from our seats.

    Islander Win

by Judge on 2009-09-20Credit Union Centre - Saskatoon

I was dissapointed that Calgary did not use more star players. I realize that they are evaluating talent but when it is at a non NHL market, with a sold out crowd that paid good money for their tickets I expected to see the stars. Thank you
