New York Islanders History
The New York Islanders, also known as the Isles, celebrated 50 years as a franchise during the 2022-2023 season. The New York Islanders took the ice for the first time in 1972 and forged one of sports' greatest dynasties less than a decade after the franchise's inception. The New York Islanders are one of only two NHL teams to win four straight Stanley Cup Championships, and their legendary run of 19 straight playoff series victories remains unmatched in professional sports.
GM Bill Torrey's brilliant drafting during the 1970s stocked the Islanders roster with some of the game's greatest players. Defenseman Denis Potvin, right wing Mike Bossy, center Bryan Trottier, goaltender Billy Smith, and left wing Clark Gillies powered the dynasty and went on to the Hall of Fame. Coach Al Arbour joined Torrey and his five players in the Hall of Fame after finishing his career fourth all-time in wins. New York Islanders legends Butch Goring, Bob Nystrom, and John Tonelli are also forever enshrined on the rafters at UBS Arena.

New York Islanders at UBS Arena
Opened in 2021 as the new home of the Islanders, UBS Arena sits in Belmont Park — between Montauk and Manhattan — and is the only arena in Metro New York that was built for hockey. The New York Islanders played their first games at UBS Arena in the 2021-2022 season. The design of the arena is inspired by iconic New York landmarks, including Central Park, Grand Central Terminal, and the Park Avenue Armory. It also features the largest arena scoreboard in New York State.
The New York Islanders’ 2023–24 regular season kicks off in October at home as the Islanders face off against the Buffalo Sabres. The Islanders will participate in the 2024 Navy Federal Credit Union NHL Stadium Series — hosted at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey — against the New York Rangers on February 18. They play their final game of the regular season at home against Metropolitan Division rivals the Pittsburgh Penguins. Here’s a list of key games to keep an eye on:
Tickets for the 2023–24 regular season can be purchased on Ticketmaster, the Official Ticket Marketplace of the New York Islanders.

Was and exciting event, had a good time good seats
NYI vs the Flames was a super good time. Living in Stoon I don't get a chance to see live NHL games so when I do, it's a treat.
The game was good we enjoy a good hockey game. The seats we had were not good at all. Could not see the score clock at all. We had people swearing and talking very rude. As there was little kids near us. I would go to another hockey game put not at this venue. For the money we paid to see the game the seats we had was very bad. It was beyond the nose bleed section
Nice to see an NHL game in our hometown but where were all the players??? Fleury, Iginla, Tavares.... $78 for a ticket and the big names were all no where to be found. Quite disappointing. We left after the second period.
Was not empressed with the game that both teams did not bring there good players to the game. Either team had anyone that was big names in the game and was a waste of $80 per ticket. Will not go and see a training camp game again.
To bad there wasn't more of the big names out on the ice.
the faster pace hockey was fun to watch but no big names, first time I had been to one of these so it was a real letdown for me. Took me one hour to leave the stadium with my van, couldn't believe it!! It was half an hour before me van even turned a tire. I was in my first "wave" and when it came our turn to stand up and lift our hands my water bottle emptied on the girl in front of me and she wasn't thrilled so I gave her $5.00 and said I just had a drink on you now you can have one on me.
it was good except Iggie didn't play when calgary was on the ice :(
Game was good but no big stars was dissappointing!
Were so excited to see the Flames/Islanders play, but so disappointed to not see any of the stars! Would much rather see a real NHL game for the money, was comparable to a regular WHL game, too bad!
I was very disappointed at the lack of at least a few big name players to show up for this game. When you go to another city for a game where the fans sell out the event and don't have a chance to see the teams live at any other time and the teams don't send any big stars for the fans is disappointing. The Isles never dressed Taveras or Weight and especially the Flames with no Iginla, Kipper, Phaneuf, Regher, Bouwmeester, Jokinen, Conroy, Langkow to name a few. In that regard I think it was a poor event for the money I paid to see it.
Game was Great, very fast, passing was sharp and crisp. It's a pleasure to watch hockey at the professional level, not the take anything away from the Blades. It's too bad that John Taveres and Doug Weight were not playing, I hope they are dressed for the Oilers. I sure hope the Islanders return to Saskatoon to hold their training camp next year, this is great for Saskatoon and Saskatchewan, not to mention the economic impact on the community
The game was great. We had good seat and was able to see what was going on. The horns are too much ...considering it was 33 degrees out ...it was cool enough inside. I love hockey!
i thought the game was decent but i was expecting more, i really wanted to see tavares and some of my other favorites play and they werent even dressed. I did how ever enjoys the fights!
Would have been nice to see some of the superstars like Iginla, Jokinen, Wright, Kiprusoff or even Fluery. At the price of admission I felt ripped off. As far as the show, the Blades put on an equal effort. There was a definite lack of excitement in the building.
parking and traffic at the event is the most frustrating part of attending any concert or event at Credit Union Centre. although it is great to have NHL in Saskatoon, the decision to have lesser known players on the ice was very disappointing. We won't be attending any future preseason games if this is the caliber of game we are to expect for a substantial fee!! The fellow who sang the National Anthems messed up the words too!
When 12,833 fans pack Credit Union Centre, it's because they love the game. This is hockey country. From Gordie Howe to Wendel Clark to Bob Borne; NHL greats began on the prairies where the backyard and school rink started their passion. The closest NHL game is between 4 and 6 hours away from Saskatoon. When the Islanders announced two exhibition games it was just a matter of hours until they sold out. Yes there were lineups, yes the traffic was log jammed but the spirit on a 34 degree September day was all hockey. The only disapointment to the "hometown Calgary" crowd was some of the heavy hitters didn't play in this exhibition game. Missing were Iginila, Regier and Kippersof but Sarich and some of his team mates gave the crowd what they were looking for in professional play. The Islanders clearly outskated the Flames and made for a great game. Can Saskatchewan support a full fledged NHL team? That is it be debated but anytime they want to visit the province that creates the greats....they will be welcomed with open arms. Welcome "Howe"m.
My husband has been a hockey/flames fan for over 20 years. How exciting it was to hear that they were playing at the Credit Union Center in Saskatoon. What a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT and EXPENSE to go to the game. We were among the thousands of fans that had their flames jerseys on. They started the warm up skating and announced the starters for the game. There were no first line players out there. We could hear the buzz in the crowd and the disappointing comments that were made. The Flames could have had a couple of first or second string players. Don't Saskatoon or Saskatchewan Fans Matter?????????????? We will never buy hockey tickets for NHL games in Saskatoon again.
Good game but it would have been better if Iginla, Bouwmeester, Phaneuf, and especially Tavares played. The big problem I have that Saskatoon has Islanders training camp and didn't even show Tavares once in the game. I can see the Flames not having their big names travel to Saskatoon but Tavares is in training camp. The Islanders did win, but seeing Johnny would have been nice.
considering the level of interest I think the teams should have dressed many more veterans
