    Nick Gives Another Legendary Performance

    by J. H. on 2022-03-21Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Nick Cave gave his typical intense & intimate performance, with plenty of interaction with the crowd! Warren Ellis was super cool, and the backup singers were wonderful. My one complaint though is that people were allowed to be at the front of the stage, even though they didn’t have nearby seats. I paid extra for 2nd row seats, and my view shouldn’t be getting blocked by people who don’t even have seats nearby. One guy in particular had huge hair and was blocking people’s view, even though he sometimes tried not to. I’ve found this problem a few times at both the Queen E. & the Orpheum, like the last two Bryan Ferry shows. Why should people pay extra to be close to the stage if security will let anyone near the stage? They eventually clear the aisles, but not in front of the stage.

    Too bad about the sound!

by Disappointed in Vancouver on 2022-03-20Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

First time seeing Nick Cave live and first time listening to his music, however I went with someone who is very familiar with his stuff over the past few decades (with the Bad Seeds). Both of us thought that Nick continues to have a great stage presence and wow, what a voice! The lighting throughout was also note-worthy in how it was different from most stage shows, innovative, sometimes etherial. The disappointment came with the sound mixing. Warren's keyboard (and even violin) was way over the top in terms of volume and so it over-rode anything else that was going on, including the other keyboard/guitar, the singers, and definitely did no favours to Nick's piano and singing. While I'm sure there are people who also enjoyed Warren's 'spitting into the bucket (was that chewing tobacco?), and his stage gestures, I found it cheapened the performance. We left before the first encore and will definitely not be going to see him live again when he is playing with Warren.

awesome show - but some audience immature

by tokenrhymer on 2022-03-19Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

great, amazing show by the masters - expect nothing less from the one of a kind duo of these artists. could do without the insipid crowd comments "we love you" etc. ffs children grow up. and don't yell requests - let the man play what he came to play. he can bypass vancouver ya know!

    Not so great

by Marcia on 2022-03-19Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

    1. The music was not to my taste - I have seen videos and heard Nick Cave's music before and loved it but this was not the same. Some of the sounds were too loud - like hearing, feeling the superloud vibrations from someone's auto stereo as they are driving by - the ones that set your teeth on edge. 2. I got the feeling that at times he was being a bit preachy. 3. People were standing up and blocking the stage view of all the people behind them. Consequently, if you didn't stand up, too, you could not see. 4. Too many people had their cell phones either taking pictures or videos and the light from them was very distracting and took away from the performance
