About

Ever since the release of their 2008 EP Chunk of Change, Passion Pit’s unique brand of indietronica has appealed to fans of both indie rock and electronic dance music, generating heaps of praise from those bastions of hipster cred otherwise known as music blogs. With the release of sophomore album Gossamer in 2012, the band kept crowds moving with a collection of ambitious and impeccably produced gems like “Take a Walk” and “Constant Conversations,” earning the album a No. 4 position on the Billboard 200. Passion Pit originated as the solo project of frontman Michael Angelakos, who penned the project’s first songs for his girlfriend before enlisting some of his classmates from Berklee College of Music to start a group. The band’s debut full-length Manners (2009) received praise from critics and bloggers for its catchy and danceable songs, including breakthrough single “Sleepyhead” and kaleidoscopic electro hit “The Reeling.” On tour in 2013, Passion Pit has been treating fans to high-octane live performances that perfectly capture the spirit of their sparkling pop anthems.

    Terrible sound

by Anonymous on 2013-01-14The Gateway (SAIT) - Calgary

There was an obvious blown speaker, which ruined the sound. Coupled with a set that didn't seem to fit an electronic indie band. It felt like I was listening to a bad action movie soundtrack through $5 speakers. Left early, waste of money.

Not at all what I expected.

by Justfeelnatural on 2013-01-14The Gateway (SAIT) - Calgary

I had already seen Passion Pit last year at the Osheaga festival and they were amazing, so when I saw that they were coming to Calgary I was so excited and of course I bought the tickets. I didn't realize that this was not even a concert at all. I understand that in the title it stated it was Passion Pit (Dj set) which I didn't really think anything of, but when I got to the venue I listened to this other dj for 3 hours before passion pit even came on. Passion pit finally came on at 11 and thats when I figured out they weren't even going to sing. It was so dissappointing. Either way I tried to make the best of it and just dance along to 2 of the band members djing until there was technical issues like 20 minutes into the perfomance. I waited for 30 minutes and then left cause I was just getting annoyed at this point. Overall I was very dissappointed that ticket master didn't really advertise that this was a DJ ONLY event. I know many many people who bought these tickets expecting to see a concert and were extremely dissappointed. Definitely not impresseed with the technical issued either.

They are much better as a band than they are as DJs. Show wasn't great.

    Terrible sound

by girlyyc on 2013-01-14The Gateway (SAIT) - Calgary

This would have been a great show, but the sound was terrible. Something was wrong with the bass and the speakers kept cutting in and out. At one point, PP even stopped the show to figure things out. Then it appeared that they kind of clocked out after that. We left early. It was so disappointing that the Gateway's sound system couldn't support what could have been a great DJ set.

Felt that the performances were too short. Got confused with the two seperate stages. Wasn't that well organized, but overall had fun and saw great bands.

Opening acts: Meh Passion Pitt: Awesome!!

by Kitsune on 2010-04-16Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

I didn't know (or really cared for that matter) who the opening acts were... they were ok... not very interesting. I also thought their sound/style is ment for an older audience? So maybe I wasn't that interested because I was one of the youngest ppl at the show. However, Passion Pitt was AMAZING live! They're sound was so unique and the lead singer was beautiful!

It was a great show. All three bands were amazing live performers. The venue was great too. It was a little upsetting that Passion Pit did not have their own instruments but over all it was a great show!
