Phoenix Suns History
As Arizona's original professional sports franchise, the Phoenix Suns were established in the NBA in 1968 and for the last 30 years have been entertaining fans in downtown Phoenix at Footprint Center. The rich history of the franchise includes some of most memorable teams in NBA history, including the 1975–76 "Sunderella Suns," the 1992–93 team that featured Charles Barkley and reached the NBA Finals, and the "Seven Seconds or Less" era teams, during which Steve Nash was twice named the league's MVP.
Enshrined in the Suns’ Ring of Honor are Alvan Adams, Barkley, Tom Chambers, Jerry Colangelo, Walter Davis, Cotton Fitzsimmons, Connie Hawkins, Kevin Johnson, Dan Majerle, Al McCoy, John MacLeod, Nash, Joe Proski, Dick Van Arsdale and Paul Westphal.
The Phoenix Suns had a successful 2020–21 season, winning the Western Conference and narrowly falling in the NBA Finals to the Milwaukee Bucks. The Suns ended the 2021–2022 season with a franchise record of 64 wins and finished with the NBA's best record by eight games above the second best, the league's largest differential in 22 years. They also made back-to-back appearances in the Western Conference semifinals in 2022 and 2023.

A soldout crowd of nearly 20,000 people. This game was amazing. It really shows that Vancouver is ready for another NBA team again, and this time we'll treasure it. The atmosphere was absolutely incredible - way better than at Canucks game. We managed to keep the wave going for 5 rounds, and we can't even get it started at hockey games. Absolutely fantastic.
Fantastic crowd and atmosphere. It was nice to see a basketball game again. Miss it.
Steve Nash was clearly having a great time even though he was playing through some pain. His control of the court is phenominal. Awesome to watch! Lots and lots of very cute girls in the audience.....that was much more fun to watch than the game itself when Steve was not playing. But after all, it was still a pre-season game, we didn't really expect it to be a GREAT basketball game.......
The game was amazing, so much fun. Good game. Wish we had basketball games out here all the time, I would go to everyone. Loved it loved it LOVED IT. **Wish the players would have signed autographs**
Felt there was no atmosphere, the players didn't seem that interested and the bits of entertainment was weak. The biggest cheers were for the Canucks players in atendance. Credit to Steve Nash as he tried his best with no look passes, energy etc but the supporting cast failed. I guess I am also tired of the jacked up prices for food/drink. It's terrible and I feel bad for parents who do not wish to say no to there children as everything was a rip off from $35 T-Shirts which you CAN purchase from Champ Sports for $20. I am a Soccer fan and not much in wanting to see the White Caps but if you want to see great entertainment, and great fans you really want to go watch the Vancouver Giants! Trust me, $20 ticket gets you a front row seat and those kids are all action.
It would have been better if the Suns won! The game was somewhat competitive. Seats were very good.
it was a great night! it's like a phoenix suns home court and we all support steve nash! even though he only played 2 quarters and the suns didn't play so good, but still worth it, cause vancouver miss nba so much!!!!
My very first live NBA game and I loved it! I would definitely attend future NBA games, especially if Vancouver got another chance with the NBA! And with a sold out crowd of 19,000 I think so would the rest of Vancouver!
Good marketing by the NBA to bring a pre-season game to the Lower Mainland. Solid professional sports entertainment package with the bells and whistles expected (e.g. Sun Gorillaz slam dunk, Nash's kid team from PG taking to the floor, the Gatorade IPOD music selection, etc.). Though the Suns lost (truth be told our son Nash was injured and could not play at optimal), watching 1st Round draft pick from Ohio State Greg Oden dominate the paint was enjoyable. Every seat at the GM Place had a good view of the floor - even the nose bleeds had solid view. Good choice by the NBA power mongers to bring the Suns and Trailblazers up - good pick for teams, good pick for time, good pick for location. Triple Os and B-ball, what better combo is there? NFL?
Absolutely entertaining !! ~ Nash, Stoudemire, Richardson & the Suns, Roy, Alderidge, Oden & the Trailblazers rocked GM PLACE - we want NBA BACK IN VANCOUVER!!! Sold Out for good reason!!!
great to watch NBA live again in Vancouver and see Steve Nash
I'm Portland's fan since two years ago. It's really special for me to see my favorite team in the city where i live now :D. The atmosphere was not so bad, but lots of people just sit in there without saying anything (common, at least you guys should cheer for Steve Nash!!). Hopefully they will come back in the near future, and hopefully another NBA team will decide to come back to Vancouver in the future!!!
It was evident with the sold out crowd of 19,000 plus that the Vancouver market can sustain an NBA team. Plus it was obvious when fans had signs of "Vancouver Wants the NBA Back" and it was shown on the in house big screen/scoreboard and all of GM Place cheered with approval of the message. Even the the Vancouver Canucks that were in attendance were nodding there heads and agreed. The Grizzlies were poorly mismanaged by Stu Jackson with poor draft picks and no faith in NBA fans here overall. The reason we don't have a team anymore is because of him but what does he care, he still has a job and we don't have a team... Anyhow it was a fantastic event and well received by the fans who clearly crave NBA action!
The absence of a glass that seperate the athletes and the fans is a refreshing experience. The action on the hardwood was pretty intense but the officiating was a little below standard. The Gorilla was joined by Fin to sent some freebies up the stands were huge bonuses to all the kids that went. The camera guys were taking beautiful shots of the athletes, Fans and the cheer leaders. Thjey were able to spot a group of Vancouver Grizzlies fans offering a statement to D.Stern. Steve Nash, inspite of his super star status, showed true appreciation to the fans when he authograghed his shoes and gave them to the fans. He is a classy sportsman! And Best of all, The Steve Nash Foundation will be able to help more people.
Ticket prices are better than a hockey game. Also, because its the last pre-season game before the regular season the starters played more and gave us a great show. Thank you Portland and Phoenix.
The Suns couldn't shoot to save their lives, their defense was non-existent (as usual), Steve Nash didn't play enough, the old floor was an embarrassment, it was only an exhibition game, but... I loved every minute of it! Over 19,000 others did as well. I wonder when the last time the Memphis Grizzlies drew over 19,000? Probably never. Good to see Steve and the NBA back in the most beautiful city in the world!
I think the event reperesented good entertainment value for a unique audience demographic. The audience appears different than that for either football or hockey and would be sufficiently loyal to make an NBA team economically viable in Vancouver. There was continuous entertainment activity and a positive atmosphere.
Too bad the Suns are back where they started, in terms of what they need (a strong centre), before they were trashed by Steve Kerr to accommodate Shaq. And Amare's not quite up to speed yet. But it was an entertaining game, anyway. Mr. S. Nash never fails to give his BC fans a good show, and the Blazers are a strong team and fun to watch.
The NBA game was awesome. Sold out, dedicated fans. Bring the NBA back to Vancouver!
