About

Combining elements of new wave, disco, and indie rock, French alt rock outfit Phoenix is arguably one of the most creative forces in contemporary pop music. After 2009’s Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix took home the Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album, the band followed up in 2013 with Bankrupt!, their fifth album and most successful release to date. Building on the catchy synthpop of its predecessor and buoyed by infectious singles “Entertainment” and “Trying to Be Cool,” Bankrupt! reached No.1 on the US Alternative Albums, Independent Albums, and Rock Albums charts, marking a first for the band. Formed in the suburbs of Paris in the mid-‘90s, Phoenix scored a breakthrough hit with “If I Ever Feel Better” from their 2000 debut United, paving the way for the mainstream success of sophomore album Alphabetical in 2004. On tour in 2013, the band have been keeping ticket buyers moving with their danceable live sets, earning a reputation as one of the most entertaining live concerts of the year.

Everyone thought Daft Punk would show up during Phoenix's encore because that's what happened in NYC, Great show though!

    Blew my expectations

by viince on 2010-10-25Ricoh Coliseum - Toronto

Phoenix played a great show on Friday. I loved the light show they put on and it was a great mix from all their albums. Only thing i was disappointment with was the set times which did not correspond to the time stated on the ticket. This made me miss Tokyo Police Club who I really wanted to see.

Excellent show. Venue was a little far out but both Tokyo and Phoenix played a solid set. Particularly awesome when Phoenix came into the middle of the crowd to play their encore. Sweet.

    Never go to Ricoh!!

by JRick on 2010-10-25Ricoh Coliseum - Toronto

Phoenix was outstanding, but the event logistics were terrible. Had to wait in line outside while the band was playing to get a wristband that would allow us onto the floor even though we had tickets for the floor! After a few songs we went to get beers and were told that they were no longer serving due to underage drinking. All the while I watched them serve people that were already in line. Bottom line I will never go to another show at the Ricoh coliseum, ever!

    He crowd surfed!!

by hulie on 2010-10-25Ricoh Coliseum - Toronto

Amazing! I missed Tokyo which i'm a bit pissed about, but Phoenix totally made up for it, they sound great live. They did a few acoustic versions of they're songs that sent chills through me! Can't wait till they come back!

    Shocked!!

by radiculous on 2010-10-24Ricoh Coliseum - Toronto

Wow, Phoenix absolutely rocked at the Ricoh Coliseum! Great lighting and effects, huge sound with bass and synth that thumped through your whole body and just an awesome performance. They really connected with the crowd with a 3 song set from the middle of the floor and a great finish with 1901 when the singer appeared in the stands and crowd surfed back to the stage. Awesome energy and great showmanship. I loved this concert, my favourite show of the year out of over 15+ concerts (yes, I'll be going deaf soon!).

    Phoenix Live is unbelievable

by Anonymous on 2010-10-24Ricoh Coliseum - Toronto

Amazing show. TPC and Phoenix both played great live. I wish TPC played Gone but whatever. Wavves played terribly, shouldn't have been up there at all. Only bad part of the night. Other than that, AMAZING!

Pheonix was cool but... the sound :(

    by Pld74 on 2010-10-24Ricoh Coliseum - Toronto

The band Phoenix was absolutely great.... I didn't however need 14 Double Woofer Bass Bins in the front, they should have hung some and also since when does lighting face the audience vs. the Band? Most times I couldn't see the band as I had strobes, spotlights, MAC 450's shinning in my and my wife's face. I think the Audio & Lighting Engineer should talk to one another and run a live session without the Audience. The Bass was so loud that I couldn't hear the singer voice nor the other instruments and at times, the frequency was so Ear Piercing and Eye ball shaking I couldn't focus on the band. Poor Setup, Poor Lighting... Great Band! Since when is a concert simply about Audio Levels? Really... It's about Equilibrium and a Precious Balance of Bass, Treble and Vocals. It obviously wasn't balanced tonight.

    Best Concert Ive ever seen!

by daynaferrone on 2010-10-03PNE forum - Vancouver, BC

The opening act was great! The only issue was that they ran out of band t-shirts very quickly. Kind of a bummer when you show up early to get a shirt. Oh well, I guess Ill have to check online. Anyways, the music was amazing! I danced the entire time! Every song blew my mind and they sounded 100% better live than on the album. The crowd was great! There was enough room to move around . The show was overall the best concert I have ever been to. I am basing this on experience, sound, vibes, and the music. They left me wanting more! Cant with until the next time they come to town! I will for sure be there!

    Real eye opener!

by BBOWMAN on 2010-10-01PNE Forum - Vancouver

Saw Neon Indian at sasquatch and they were awesome again with really cool gear. Phoenix blew my mind with how tight they were, and there song selection. Could not recommend stronger.

Neon Indian is not my cup of tea; however, Phoenix is fantastic! They played the entire last album, even the instrumental, plus the oldies I wanted to hear. The sound was amazing. Not a lot of bells and whistles, but you don't miss it because the music is so good.

phoenix millions times better then expected

by mannister on 2010-09-29PNE Forum - Vancouver

great use of stoplights, lots of energy, a bit of a younger crowd (16-19) mainly, not rough but a good moshing environment, and the best was when mars went into the crowd, one of the best concerts i've seen, highly recommended.

    Phoenix killed it!!

by Demose on 2010-09-28PNE Forum - Vancouver

The show kicked off with Neon Indian... they were a little disappointing... off beat... But Phoenix was sooo good live!!! Their first song was Lisztomania, which totally pumped up the crowd! They finished with 1901, Thomas Mars even ended the night by crowd surfing!! It was a lot of fun!

The only downside was weak vocals, hard to hear during most songs. Not so much for Neon Indian but definitely for Phoenix.

    Phoenix had great potential...

by dsmm on 2010-09-28PNE Forum - Vancouver

Great live performance, BUT... the sound crew blew this one! There were many times that the only way you knew that singing was taking place was that the mike was up to his face and his mouth was moving. The drummer was awesome, but too often completely (along with the bass) drowned out all the vocals and the guitars. It could have been so much better!

Phoenix was good, PNE Forum was bad

by typohell on 2010-09-28PNE Forum - Vancouver

The PNE Forum was dirty, smelled like a barn and was not adequately air conditioned. The sound and lighting were bad. Sound quality was poor and the volume was too low. Overall a really second-rate show for the size of the venue. The band was good, but the venue was terrible. Would avoid this venue in future unless it was a band I really didn't want to miss.

    Phoenix = wicked time!

Phoenix was amazing!! Great lighting and stage presence! Sound wasn't the best due to the venue I think, but the talent def showed!!!
