Pittsburgh Penguins History
The Pittsburgh Penguins joined the National Hockey League for the 1967-1968 season during the League's expansion from six to 12 teams. The Penguins played at Civic Arena (nicknamed "the Igloo") until the 2009-2010 season, when they moved to PPG Paints Arena (formerly CONSOL Energy Center).
Postseason appearances have been nearly a birthright for the Penguins and their fans since the 1990-1991 season, after which they won five Stanley Cup Championships. They've won six conference championships and earned the Stanley Cup Champion title in back-to-back seasons (2016 and 2017) with coach Mike Sullivan and the great Sidney Crosby as captain at the helm.
In the 2005 NHL Draft the Penguins selected Crosby as their No. 1 pick. Dubbed “The Next One,” Crosby has spent an historic 18 seasons with the Penguins and enters the 2023-2024 at 25th on the league’s all-time scoring list.
The franchise boasts more than a dozen former players in the NHL Hall of Fame, including Mario Lemieux, Ron Francis, Mark Recchi, Bryan Trottier, and Paul Coffey. The Penguins most recently made the playoffs in 2022. To date, they've appeared in the playoffs 37 times in their 55 seasons.

An awesome place to watch a hockey game and the ending was incredible as well
Even though the Pens lost :( it was incredible to drive down from Ontario Canada to watch the three best players in the world!! and Pittsburgh is an amazing city!!! Go Pens Go!
Thankfully, a new arena in Pittsburgh is only 9 months away. My costly seat for Pens/Hawks was 5 rows from the ice, but I had to view play at the far end on a TV monitor as the side-glass distorted vision more than any "junior" arena I've experienced. That is only the beginning of my Mellon experience. Any plans for future games this season are finished.
This was a great game. The arena, although old is so great and loud. I have been in some of the newer areas and they can never get this level of excitement. Our seats were in the 2nd level behind the home goalie and they were good, although a little dark with the overhang from the thrid level.
My dog Bella Lemieux went to Pittsburgh with us. She really likes it there and she thinks the Boston Bruins suck.
This was my second time in Pittsburgh!! I'm from Rimouski, so it is a very long ride!! But it was amazing!! At the game, I wore the jersey of Sidney Crosby when he played in rimouski for l'océanic!! I didn't wear it for nothing, he made a Hat trick!! WOW!! Fleury made some great saves for his team!! I am a huge Penguins' fan and I'll come back next year for sure!! I'm never disapointed when I watch such a great team play!!
BEST SEATS IN HOUSE, TERRIFIC EXPERIANCE ! OVERAL BEST EVENT THIS YEAR 10 OUT OF 10
Our first time in Pittsburgh and we went to see the Stanley Cup Champions - fantastic!!! We had great seats, at a great venue and great hockey - it was a dream come true for my son to see the Pens play!
I could not believe these seats! We are Canadian and booked tickets online. The seats were in section A20 and the seats were right next to where the Pens enter and exit the ice. We were front row. Initially I was disappointed because Fleury was not playing that night, but what I didn't realize was that the back up goalie sits right there the entire game. So I was good with that. As for the game the Pens didn't look so sharp for the first 2 periods. (adjusting to Gonchar being gone from the point?) Sid came to the rescue and scored two with about 2 mins left to tie and then we went through the overtime and shoot out. Sid scored a 3rd time and WE WON!!!!
Standing room spots were brutal - could only see half of the ice. This was never mentioned when buying the tickets. Very dissapointed
What a game, Great seats and another W added to the Win column. Clearly after this game, the Pens were on a mission and determined not to lose it again to the Wings. Game 4 was the pivotal game where they tied up the series and key to taking the cup.
Great game, great crowd, great seats with a great sightline! Fun old building with a great atmosphere, too bad they are knocking it down as this is the last of the old barns...
