About

Primus was founded in 1984 in El Sobrante, California by Les Claypool and guitarist Todd Huth, who were later joined by drummer Jay Lane. Beginning as an underground act, the band slowly gained notoriety and critical acclaim after their records Sailing the Seas of Cheese (1991) and Pork Soda (1993) both went Platinum, along with their records, Wynona's Big Brown Beaver (1996), Sailing the Seas of Cheese (Deluxe Edition) (2013) and Primus & the Chocolate Factory with the Fungi Ensemble (2015), all three of which earned Grammy nominations. After the release of their record Antipop in 1999, the group disbanded but reformed as a touring entity in 2010 and began releasing music again soon after; Primus has released nine studio albums in total. The present lineup features Claypool on bass, Larry “Ler” LaLonde on guitar and Tim “Herb” Alexander on drums. Primus have delighted audiences all over the world with their oddball lyricism and out-of-the-box approach to music for over 40 years, and continue to be dedicated to bringing their innovative discography on the road.

  • Excellent show at great venue

by Darin on 2022-05-16Massey Hall - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

The Primus concert was excellent, performing their own songs and paying tribute to Rush by playing the Farewell To Kings album start to finish and nailing it. Massey Hall after the refurb is terrific venue

  • Primus: Back to Back nights at the Danforth

by Cram on 2013-06-12The Danforth Music Hall - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

What to say!? Priums, one of the best bands on earth, killed it this past weekend at the Danforth. First night was many of the hits with the second night being most of the fringe stuff the hardcore fans really like The Danforth is probably the best music venue in the city - amazing sound, great sight lines for shorter individuals (sloped floor) and easy access drinks. nice orchestra balcony as well if you prefer to sit. win for the artist win for the venue

  • A epic event

  • Psycho Primus

by Beru on 2013-06-10The Danforth Music Hall - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

One of the best show I have seen. Primus live is just awesome. They played a great variety of songs from almost every albums. The 3D makes it even more psychadelic. I got myself trapped and hypnotized by the weird effects and screen background. The sound was just perfect. Les Claypool`s bass was felt troughout the music hall.

  • Phenomenal, as always!

by akdubbs on 2013-06-10The Danforth Music Hall - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

  • Great show sucky venue

by MrsMangler on 2013-06-04Myth - MaplewoodRating: 4 out of 5

3D was awesome, loved the lobsters! Primus rocked although I wish there was more light to see the band as well as the 3D. Could have been louder but really enjoyed the videos, set list etc. What sucked about Myth - snotty bartenders ( was snubbed trying to order a drink) - overpriced drinks - poor layout of room, if you where short you probably didn't see much

  • Primus Sucks!! Primus Sucks!!

    by drum1989 on 2013-06-02Burton Cummings Theatre - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

Primus was awesome, note for note, an unforgettable experience! If you don't get my title, you are not a true Primus fan :)!

  • More Masterful Musicianship than Quirk

by BrownBeaver on 2013-06-02Burton Cummings Theatre - WinnipegRating: 4 out of 5

Finally got to see a group who's prime centers circa early 90's but clearly has a lot left in the tank. Touring a new album they managed to play some real classics in context of a neat 3D touch. The Astronaut with darting eyes provided a bizarre ambience amidst the lights and visual effects. Mostly in a shadow, Claypool glides through some of the most colorful yet intruiging music created in recent time. All the band have mastered their respective domains and the outcome is wickedly prolonged sequences of original music. Proving the comedian, Claypool made some whitty remarks to a heckler creating a laugh roar from the eager crowd. The disappointing element was leaving out "my name is Mud" and Wynona's Big Brown Beaver." Heck, Les even adorned his Pig Head mask but no one named "Mr.Krinkle" showed up. Overall awesome show

This was the first time I seen Primus but certainly will not be my last. They were great! The stage had a really cool setup and the venue was an excellent choice as well. I didnt get to hear my favourite songs but the ones they did play were still pretty damn good. Thank you Primus.

  • For whatever ails you......Primus live

by Flops on 2012-06-17Orpheum Theatre - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

Having seen Primus before, I jumped when I saw their date in Vancouver. Felt mixed when I discovered The Dandy Warhols were the same night. Anyway, we went and it was outstanding! I cannot say enough. The band was tight, their sound was crisp-it was in a theatre with good sound fortunately, their creativity with the lighting and video....stellar. They created such a safe space-the entire crowd was happily dancing. I have never felt so secure in a crowd. Thank you! Refreshing to be surrounded with so much happiness. Primus commands it! We ended up catching the entire Dandy Warhols afterward. Primus had warmed us up and we walked into a completely different vibe. Dandys were good, but didn't put as much passion in. Primus, you are amazing.
