Rita has a spectacular voice that resonates throughout the building. The Men of the Deep compliment the show with their personal touch in each song.
We always pick one Christmas concert show each December to see. Something different and one we have never seen before. It was very nice. I was interested more in the Men of the Deeps. Brought a tear to my eye when they would tell their stories and sing. Rita was good. She would tell her story about the song. She did a great job on There Will Be Peace in the Valley and I enjoyed the song Immigrant Eyes.
An amazing show would recommend it to anyone, everything about it was great from start to finish
absolutely amazing. rita is a very funny story teller and her singing is great.what an entertainer. the men of the deeps was the icing on the cake. quite emotional for my husband and I at times and very moving.
The music that Rita provides is such heart and soul music.. Her power of her voice is unbelievable. When you get both her and the "Men of the Deeps"choir on the stage it is nothing less than stunning. The words to the songs they perform are so touching. They have worked out a a performance that would melt the hardest heart. The orchestra they share is top notch, and have such a variety of music. There were several humorous moments and several touching moments. Both my husband and I were near tears for a few of the songs like the one about the "Their Lights Will Shine" and her "Family Christmas."
We loved the little stories Rita tells. Her voice is very special, and man those men can sing! Just a lovely night....you could feel it in the air! My son loved it, I was hoping to see more children.
Three sisters and a daughter attended this concert, and we all enjoyed it thoroughly. As usual. Jubilee is a much better venue for this event than the one used two years ago. This is the first time we have seen Men of the Deeps in person, so to speak, and it was wonderful. Rita had a great band, keyboard and drums were excellent - but where was the "Down East" Fiddler???? Is Rita feeling well?? She seemed to be sitting more than usual - hope her health is good and she hit the West again next year.
Rita and the Men of the Deeps put on a wonderful performance. The played many of my holiday favorites songs. I loved the personal stories that were shared by both Rita and several members of the Men of the Deeps. Besides the wonderful music I enjoyed the sense of humour that everyone had. It was a truely wonderful experience that I was proud to share with my mother.
Rita and the Men of the Deeps are so Authentic, they are the real thing. I enjoyed everything, the music the singing and Rita'.s down home charm
The Show was OK. I particularly liked the Men of the Deep. Their music and harmonies were wonderful - songs and poems, etc touching. Rita was nothing to write home about, but just OK. I really think it is about time for her to retire. Her voice is beginning to fade.
This was a birthday present for my Mom. We had great seats and the Men of the Deeps were awesome!! Loved every moment. Rita MacNeil, as always, has connected with the crowd with her stories and humor. Such a beautiful voice.
The concert started at 7PM which was a bit early. Rita opened the show and sang for a good 40 minutes on her own. The Men of the Deep sang songs I had heard before but they are always a pleasure to listen to. The last part of the show was the singing of Christmas songs which I really enjoyed. Rita appears to be such a humble person and you feel like you know her.
The concert was fantastic. Enjoyed the whole performance. The end of the show saw the miners come into the audience shaking hands and chatting. Rita sat patiently signing autographs and smiling for pics. She is such a sincere person, no fakiness about her. She is what she is and we love her. The Men of the Deeps are an entity themselves. Good on calgary for bringing them here. Please do it again next year !!!
Wish I could have heard the lyrics to the songs sung, especially those of the Miners choirs. The band, mostly the heavy base guitar, ruined the show. My three friends feel the same way. Rita struggled with high notes, probably because she needed to be heard above the band. The musicians were excellent talents who just seemed to feel that the stage was theirs and not Rita's and the Miner's. As a matter of fact, we have not been pleased with the acoustics at a number of events such as: Hairspray, Spamalot, Lion King Jeff Foxworthy. We just can't understand why the lyrics in the newly refurbished Jubilee Auditorium are impossible to make out. The music microphone mixer guys either don't know how to run sophisticated equipment or are deaf?

The show was wonderful - the one flaw - couldn't understand the words when Rita was singing. That was too bad as her songs are stories often. Have to give that sound tech a jolt.
Rita - what can we say - you are truly amazing and just as good as you were the first time that I saw you. Keep going girl. Also enjoyed the miners - what lovely voices. Was a real treat to go to a show and listen and not have the interference of arms waving and people jumping up and down and acting like fools & spoiling the show for everyone else. Would certainly go back again.
I loved the concert but am very concerned about Rita's health! Most of us at the concert are about her age and many of us have gained weight over the years but Rita can hardly walk and seemed short of breath on accaison. I was afraid she was going to have a heart attack on stage! Her voice is as lovely as ever and I hope to see many more of her shows. She needs to start taking better care of her health!
This was a wonderful concert, i gave this as a gift. My friend told me her seats were excelllent and the concert was most entertaining. Very touching aswell, giving tribute to all the miners that dietd back East. Ritas voice was just as amazing as always
