Fabulous venue, excellent line up… only downside was the weather & too few food options
Weather aside there was a great line up of bands. Fun times and good music with an appreciated quick change out between acts. People had overall great time. Thankfully Ford Hall was a safety back up Friday night during a fast moving storm and again Sunday with torrential rains. Hats off to the class acts of Teaze and Streetheart playing without full band inside Ford Hall Sunday. That was an amazing performance which really showcased their talent and class!!! Things to do better - TWO food trucks with one offering only mini donuts is FAR FROM ADEQUATE when you are on site 6 hours and unable to bring in any food. Pathetic service. Sunday schedule should start much earlier - why aim to finish at 930/10 pm when people have to work the next day, possibly travel home and you could have done a daytime schedule instead. Very disappointed in April Wine being a no show Sunday plus feel lied to by organizers that they were trying to find one member then they literally packed up the venue without the guts to tell us they weren’t coming on.
The lineup was a great mix of those bands making the comeback festival circuit with a nice mix of not so regular acts. As a long time attendant of RockFest in Hawrelak Park, maybe I was expecting more but the atmosphere felt exactly like it was, a stage set up in a fenced off parking lot. There could have been more food truck options, two did not offer much especially for those with dietary restrictions. Even with the rain, we had an enjoyable time. We’ll see about next year though.
I know there will be some negative reviews on this event but the reality is the weather ruined a potentially great event. Here is my take: FRIDAY was nice and warm and went off seamlessly until a high wind storm and rain came through. I thought organizers, staff and bands adapted seamlessly. They opened Ford hall and everybody had a safe, dry place to go. Storm passed and re-entry was easy effortless. SATURDAY was cool and poured rain all day. Staff was soaked and did the best they could to keep the remaining people happy in horrible conditions. The bands played on... SUNDAY was a right off. Unseasonable, borderline freezing, temperatures. I heard people complaining that bands cancelled...They should have cancelled and everybody should have went home in these conditions. I also heard people complain about lack of food trucks...We are downtown Edmonton everybody...Quality FOOD is at every corner and re-entry was allowed and very easy. Don't believe all the unhappy comments, If the weather would have be +30 like the week before, everybody would have enjoyed it more. The event was good and I hope there is a next year! Thanks for trying to navigate Edmonton weather and give us great classic Canadian rock!
Was so excited for the weekend but Mother Nature didn’t cooperate. Maybe shelter tents could have helped. More food trucks definitively would be good. I liked the location, the lineup and the overall atmosphere. We didn’t attend Sunday-wish there was a re-schedule.
I had a great time at Rock The District, despite the rain! Sadly the final day was rained out, but the organizer did everything with in his power to make it right! We were hustled into the Molson House Bar in Rogers place to dry out and Streetheart and Tease gave a up and personal jam session. I am not sure what happened to April Wine doing a jam session, they were super late and band members were missing. Streetheart and April Wine did do autographes which is something I love. Autographs was something that always happened at the Rock Society festival at Hawrelak Park! See you next year!
The event looked great. The lineup was amazing. Unfortunately the weather hampered the event. More beverage trailers need to be put in place next year.
I went on Saturday and missed the first two bands due to the rain 🙁, but Honeymoon suite & Lover Boy were really good! Overall I had a blast😀 Met some great Edmonton City Police and chatted them up !
Helix killed it! They Should have been the headliners on Saturday night, or at least a longer set although the 1 hour 15 minutes was quite satisfying!
Music was great! Free water awesome! Great entry staff Food so-so but over priced snd they ran out Couldn’t bring in certain umbrellas even though it was pouring out! Not okay!!!
I only went for Saturdays show, but I wasn't disappointed. Rained through until after Helix. All preformers took into consideration what we as an audience were going through with the weather and showed their appreciation throughout the show. Great line up and had a great time.
Well having bands show up To play would be a good start
I had so much fun, the bands were great! Weather not so much...but we pushed through! Would do this again & bring my friends!!
Two great bands followed by a thunderstorm followed by another great band! Easy access, awesome new venue, a mix of seating and standing options, plus a variety of food and merch options. Just before the storm hit staff ushered everyone orderly into interior space. Very impressed by the organization and safety protocols.
Went to the Friday evening show and loved it! Hope it’s yearly!
It was a blast reliving the 80’s but doing it in the rain kinda sucked. Knowing rain was in the forecast it would have been better if they had set up tents…lots of room to do it. The bands were great Still a good time.
I would have appreciated the email about bringing lawn chairs and so forth alot earlier than the day of. Some more food trucks or food options would have been great. Other then that I loved it and wish I could have afforded to be there all weekend!!!!🤣
We were at the festival Friday and Saturday. I thought it was really well done. Loved the fact that we weren’t overcharged for beers! Hoping it becomes an annual event!
