Rock the River is a good way to see a bunch of classic music bands. There were a couple of pleasant surprises: Chilliwack was amazingly like they sounded 30 or 40 years ago, few others can claim that. Men Without Hats did an awesome set, extremely good crowd engagement, better than they were 5 years ago. Most others were as expected, lineup changes, aging voices but still great acts. Flock of Seagulls was a flop with the crowd.
The music line up was awesome. Great music. The venue??? Gets worse every year. The line up for booze tickets, booze and out house were terrible. The selection for the liquor is awful too. Where are some food trucks?? Every year things should get better but it gets worse every year. So much room for improvement.
Attended with family and a friend. Overall, ther performances were great. Some of the bands needed less instrumental filler - they needed more songs. I loved Streetheart, Chilliwack, Men Without Hats and Gowan. Ther other bands out on a great show; Flock of Seagulls needed a new sound person.
This year there was only one area used for porta potties, which for those able to walk that far with healthy legs had no issues. But those that have limited moblity having to be so far on the other side from the porta potties, it was challenging to access them. Suggestion is having porta potties on both sides of the bowl. We loved the line-up of musicians. Thanks for another Rock the River weekend of wonderful musicians.
Excellent performances ... but soured by the disorganized venue , poorly staffed long line ups for food and drinks at least half hour to stand in line to buy crappy drinks and food. Delta staff had no idea what they were doing it was like they had never worked a bar before? So disappointed in that aspect.
MEN without Hats was energetic and sounded great but needs a few more songs rather than playing Safety Dance 3x. Gowan was amazing! The food options were limited , the hotdogs okay . The mystery meat of the classic cheeseburger was supposedly beef but was a pale grey and tasteless . For 12 dollars I would have expected at least a fried beef burger instead of a boiled/steamed one .
Excellent bands as usual, beautiful venue. 3500 people and only two liquor booths with very unlimited choices. Time to have more liquor booths and more variety of spirits, not just Great Western. Food was NOT GOOD! And way too expensive! Bring in food trucks and snacks.
For our first time going to rock the river we were very disappointed wasn't enough ticket outlets, only 2 beverage sales tables the line ups were ridiculous. Didn't even bother getting food or drinks
A blast from the past…definitely going next year 2024. AWESOME weekend of entertainment
Great weekend but three suggestions: 1. Hotel guests should get preferential treatment; ie separate line up to enter the grounds; early entry to set up chairs or buy tickets 2. Line ups for tickets, drinks and food were too long so if you are in all of these line ups you miss the show! The gates only opened a hour before show time so there was not enough time to buy. You need more sellers. Also there is not quite enough time between shows to eat and drink. 3. Have washrooms on both sides of the gardens. Thank you for listening!
Pros: Great bands and on schedule Great venue close to hotels quick thru security once gates opened COLD beer!!! all day Cons: very poor value and generally poorly prepared food with limited choice not permitted to bring own snacks etc as is the case at other festivals I have attended Extremely overwhelmed infrastructure opening night to handle sale of food and drink tickets (seriously long lines and wait times) concession condiment area was often DISGUSTING yet no staff took action to clean
I have been going to Rock the River every year since it started. I have enjoyed every year even though this year there were hiccups. On Friday night it took us 45 minutes to get beer tickets during the first band, Streetheart. It took another 15 minutes to get through the line up for a drink. By the time we got drinks Streetheart’s set was over.Either more people selling tickets or don’t have 2 people standing beside the ticket booth taking food orders. It only slows everything down. I will also mention the obvious-$9.00 for a drink is a money grab!!
I was probably expecting a lot more this year, with such a star studded lineup, but I was kinda disappointed, to be honest. Streetheart, Honeymoon Suite & Tom Cochrane were great on Friday night, but Saturday’s lineup left a bit to be desired, to be honest. Sundays lineup was just ok, too. Men Without Hats were spot on, but A Flock of Seagulls & Carol Pope were mildly disappointing. We didn’t stay for Gowan, so can’t comment on his performance. I know I’m gonna sound spoiled here, but I’m just telling you the truth, as I see it…
You guys sold way too many tickets. Long lineups to get beer/food tickets, long lineups for alcohol and food. You couldn’t dance up at the front because people were standing there. The music lineup was great but the worst Rock the river concert bc way too many people. Parking was the the crap - construction In front .
The music was awesome! The organizer(s): Very amateur! What a joke. Why are we waiting in lines for a food/beverage ticket then waiting in line again to get food or beverage, it’s ridiculous. Figure something out, that place has so much more potential. So much more.
Great event Rock the River. Awesome place to have it at. Great bands, fun people all around. Only issue was the line ips for Friday night. Drink ticket line up long as well as the bar line up being long. Otherwise great event.
Thank you to all the volunteers, venue workers. Venue was clean well planned out. Bathrooms cleaned regularly. Sound system and lights were fabulous. Bands were so grateful and awesome. I only wish for large screens so we can see the band better.
Friday was not very well organized in the way of line ups for tickets & beverages. Some people missed the 1st group by the time they got thru all the lineups and finally got seated. Workers were trying hard to accomplish their tasks but lacked training and guidance. Saturday & Sunday we’re much better.. apparently it was a work in progress. The bands were pretty descent and entertaining. Overall I was happy with the 3 days overall in this regard. Overall it’s pretty descent value for what you pay.. I’ll be back.
Great line up of bands. No disappointments at all. Food and drink? Meh. A little more variety, especially at the price of beer would have been nice. Great weekend though.
Great venue! Nice city! Great restaurants! Bands were mediocre this year! Ticket and beer line was unreal! Waisted most of my evening waiting in line to get a beer! $9.00 beers come on can do better than that! Three out of five this year!
