Roxy Music Live in Concert

Roxy Music was formed in 1970 by lead singer and songwriter Bryan Ferry and bass guitarist Graham Simpson. Ferry had just lost his job teaching ceramics at a girls' school for holding unauthorized record-listening sessions. Ferry decided to start a band and put out ads to attract musicians. He enlisted Andy Mackay on saxophone and oboe, Roger Bunn on guitar and Dexter Lloyd on drums. Brian Eno, who has found enormous success as a solo artist, was also brought on for synthesizer and treatments, although he left soon after the group's second album release. The difference in style between Ferry and Eno would create the band's signature sound, but it also eventually drove the two apart. Roxy Music gained critical attention quickly and was signed to Island Records almost immediately upon the release of their debut self-titled album in 1972. The album was a significant success, reaching No. 10 on the UK charts. Things really heated up when the group performed their debut single "Virginia Plain" on BBC's "Top of the Pops." The song was later listed on Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Debut Singles of All Time list. Their signature style was displayed for the world and became a template for the glam trend in the UK. The band released their second album, For Your Pleasure, in 1973. This album turned out to be Eno's last project with Roxy Music, a lineup change that would send the band in a new direction. They released Stranded in 1973, Country Life in 1974, and Siren in 1975. Rolling Stone referred to Stranded and Country Life as marking "the zenith of contemporary British art rock." The group took a break in 1976 before reuniting to record Manifesto in 1979, Flesh and Blood in 1980 and their final studio album Avalon in 1982. After taking a second and final hiatus that began in 1983, Roxy Music got back together for their first reunion tour in 2001. Since then, Rolling Stone has ranked Roxy Music No. 98 on their "The Immortals -- The 100 Greatest Artists of All Time" list, and in 2019, Roxy Music was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Dont get tickets behind the mixing boards

by Alexander on 2022-09-12Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

I thought we were high enough to avoid the mixing boards however 2 cables to the ceiling, 2 tall cameras on stands and 2 operators blocked the view A little to the left or right of center stage will always be better however Roxy Music Rocked

review of Roxy Music in Toronto

    by Candy-O on 2022-09-11Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

The show was disappointing. I was thrilled to see the band on tour but they spent the first half of the show jamming. The second half of the show improved, was faster paced and it also focused more on their hits. No one expects them to sound the same as the 70s and 80s but they used the first stop of the tour to practice. St. Vincent was spectacular and they could have sung one song together.

    surprise surprise

by Lee S. on 2022-09-11Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

Cool and sultry, Roxy Music played for 90 minutes. Light show excellent, screen show very good. Very pleasant surprise and glad I went

    Glad I could make it

by Mark on 2022-09-11Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

Was asking my friend as we bbq'd steaks, "who is left to see?". He told me Roxy Music was touring. Glad he mentioned it. Great show. If anything their repertoire felt fresher than ever and the supporting line-up of musicians was awesome as well. Very neat stage design/video backdrops as well, even from the first row.

    Great but a bit obscure

by Shasha on 2022-09-11Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

Started out with a few older more obscure songs, but then became more familiar. Bryan Ferry’s voice wasn’t as strong as it usually is, but the musicianship of Roxy Music was perfect.

    One in fifty

by Johnny Binbrook on 2022-09-11Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

Roxy Music's only Canadian stop on their fiftieth aniversary tour did not disappoint. Playing songs stretching back to their first album made for a deep playlist. Opening the set with Remake/Remodel and finishing the 100 minute show with John Lennon's Jealous Guy, the old and new fans were left wanting for not too much more. A large video screen kept the audience attention and the 8 piece backing band to the four original members made for a full spectrum of sound. Only take aways were that Brian Ferry could no longer hit his full voice and that the show could have had an encore. Venue was also disappointingly half full, but at least we got a seat upgrade.

    Middling performance

    by S. Y. on 2022-09-11Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

Core band members (Mackay, Manzanera and Thompson) were tight and pretty well note-perfect, but Ferry's voice has gone and lacks the vocal range he once had. Backing members were ok. Lighting and video were ok, but not a patch on Genesis a few months ago. As a Roxy fan since the 1970's I was a little disappointed, but not really surprised.

    Inconsiderate people standing up

by Caper guy on 2022-09-11Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

First Roxy live experience. Music was first rate. Only downside was people in front of us on the floor were standing up immediately for the entire time the band played. No ushers to be seen. Should have been instruction asking people to sit down.

    Roxy 50th

    by t. v. on 2022-09-10Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

An excellent show. All the musicians were totally on their game. and well worth the time spent. My only complaint, the show was a little short and no encore...oh well, it was still worth it.

Intimate arena setting- you read that right!

    by Mary-Ann on 2022-09-10Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

Wow. Despite seeing in an arena, Bryan was so engaging, it felt like I was seeing the show at a smaller and more intimate venue. Sound and light effects were well done. Opening band, St Vincent was very strong. Overall, a show to remember.

    Toronto kick off gig

by Roxy Roller on 2022-09-10Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

Overall, a very good show. Strengths; the warm up band, the visuals, the light show, most of the set list, McKay, Mazanera, Thomson Weaknesses; the video screen misalignment, too much Avalon/not enough early material, Ferry’s vocals were at their limit

    Pudds at Roxy

by Pudds on 2022-09-10Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

Fantastic night, superb performance from Phil on guiter, and Andy on Sax and oboe. Bryan struggled a little, set was great though there was no songs from stranded that was a disppointment. Best of the night was in every dream home. Overall excellent night

Great effort - Just Missed the Mark

by Dontfret on 2022-09-10Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

Bryan Ferry’s vocals were stretched on a number of tunes that we were looking forward to hearing. I must say the musicians were fantastic and I admire the effort at Bryan’s age to perform. However this should be considered when pricing an event. Otherwise I was happy to see them again. It was for the die hards for sure!

by Sara on 2022-09-10Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

we were ao looking forward to all the hits and a walk down memory lane but after the first hour we only recognized two songs. Sadly we ended up leaving before the concert ended. Not what we were hoping for

    Roxy Music Toronto

by Davetv on 2022-09-10Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

Overall a great light and video show. Sadly, Brian doesn't have the range for most of their songs any longer. He got by, but some of the songs didn't work based on his limited singing range. With that said, I enjoyed the show, but this is probably the last time I would go to see Roxy Music.

    Great show. For diehard fans

by Binky on 2022-09-10Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

I was really looking forward to seeing Roxy Music again as I am am a diehard fan from way back. Visually and musically, it was quite a spectacle. Some old songs from the first two (great) albums + lots of Avalon songs. Unfortunately, our dear Bryan is showing his age. He couldn’t quite hit the high notes. The rest of the band, however, were in top form. I had a great time nonetheless. Viva Roxy!

    Excellent

by Lynneski on 2022-09-10Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

Super fast entry. Searched our bags. ( I feel that it would be in everyone’s interest to install a metal detector instead ? To stop stabbing and gun violence ? ) Shown to our seats immediately. Plus we forfeit the encore but could still hear Roxy and made an incredibly fast exit. All together experience was excellent 👍
