Most amazing show ....Ryan Adams was spectacular

In addition, he is just an all-around excellent performer with a stunning personality and bursts of humor. I would see him anytime he comes back to Vancouver.

    Ryan Adams was incredible!

by cafewha on 2015-01-30Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

I can't believe a review I read about the same concert that I saw him at. He was amazing. Can't believe someone would talk down about the way he was talking to the audience. I thought it was amazing how much he interacted with us, and how funny he was. He displayed so much of his personality, and played with so much passion. I will go see him again as soon as I can.

    Ryan has been better

by noelsroyce on 2014-11-15Massey Hall - Toronto

I've been to a few Ryan Adams concerts in the past and this was by far the most boring. HIs music has taken a turn into 'kind of rock n roll/blues' music. That weird category your parents listen to. The songs that grabbed my attention were the ones from the past. His current album is lacking a hit song. He also mumbles to much when speaking to the audience - unless provoked by an audience member. When he gets upset, he speaks loudly and clearly - one time shouting at someone in the audience to "just stop!"

Great show! Would have liked it to go longer or hear an encore at least, but maybe that's just being greedy. Massey Hall's curfew is not 11pm. Amazing show from R.A.T.S.

Great performance, great venue, great sound

by Oxejin on 2014-11-15Massey Hall - Toronto

My first time seeing Ryan, big fan. Voice was spot-on, band was tight. Massey Hall is a great venue for this type of show. Sound was fantastic, big, but well mixed and EQ'd, no post-show tinnitus. Ryan has a humorous way of dealing with disruptive audience members. Overall, the audience was quite respectful and appropriate. Butch Walker opened well, nice use of kick drum.

    Gold(en) Age of Ryan's Arcade

by AltCountryTab on 2014-10-19Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

Gold(en) Age of Ryan's Arcade This arcade show was Meh. Video games began to gain momentum in the late 1970s with games such as Asteroids (1979) and became widespread in 1980 with Pac-Man. Ryan Adams began to gain momentum in the late 1990s with "Strangers Almanac", continuing this momentum as a solo artist with 2000's "Heartbreaker" before fading away in recent years. Ryan tried to bring that momentum back Tuesday night at the Orpheum in Vancouver, but the monitors on the Asteroids and Pac Man vintage video games on stage read "Game Over". The only songs that were good where the few where he played harmonica and acoustic. One of them was the one and only encore song, "Come Pick Me Up" where he was joined on stage by Butch Walker (opener) on electric guitar. The other was "New York, New York" also on acoustic, but at a slower tempo than normal for this "Gold" track that could have been released in 1985 ((730,365 days - 16 Days)/365). There could have been a "Dear Chicago" but instead, Ryan decided to improvise and make up a song as he went along. "Order #4" was about ordering a slice of pizza (possibly Chicago-style deep-dish). As amusing as the song was, he could have passed on this stupidity and maybe there would have been time for one more classic Adams song. Everyone is now aware of the other Adams song, "Run To You" which is now part of his shows on this current tour. The song ended the night before the one song encore. The other Adams will be touring in celebrating the 30th anniversary of "Reckless". Maybe Bryan can return the favour. There was nothing special about his supporting cast of Pac Men, not even a hint of "Pac-Man Fever". The songs performed from 2005's "Cold Roses" did not work without the Cardinals and should be retired from future shows. I saw the "Cold Roses" tour in 2005 on the same day that the album was released. There was musicianship then, none of it on display Tuesday tonight. Not even gamesmanship.

    Did YOU see Ryan Adams?

by Badger99 on 2014-10-15Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

The opening act by Butch Walker started a little slow and depressing, but he finished his set more lively and was over all quite good. But I digress, as this is a review meant for Ryan Adams, who performed on a set that was more of a light show than a live concert, because we barely could see Ryan (or the others) on the stage due to the lack of lighting....ironically. Seeing him perform is just as important as listening to him perform, because the latter could have been done anytime, anywhere and for much less. There was no real intimacy with the audience, other than him sharing his dry humour.

More attitude than his audience deserved!

by Patrick99 on 2014-10-15Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

He is a great songwriter, singer and musician but he demonstrates over and over again that he could care less for his audience. He went off on folks for requesting songs and on some poor girl for looking at her phone. He was backlit so you couldn't see his face. He lectured the audience on the silliness of staged encores. Whenever he was developing any momentum to his show or any rapport with the audience he would indulge himself in a self absorbed rant of some sort. He has the talent to be a top tier performer. His attitude makes him something far less!

    Ryan Adams was amazing!!

by Caro1977 on 2014-10-13Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

We went to this concert as a family and we all loved it. There are times you don't like the opener but he was great also. Lived it all. Sound was amazing. Would definitely see them both again ;)

Surprised at his lack of performance/entertainment

by DebOrahT on 2014-10-13Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

The good: his singing was really good. The band was tight and very professional. The not so good: long pauses between songs, hard to get a vibe going. His focus on the time, I've never heard a performer give a rundown on the time remaining in a concert. His impoliteness to the band and audience, he hardly acknowledged the excellent musicians, he kept saying how stoned he was. I wasn't there to hear that, I was there to hear him. He was I think one of the worst performers I have seen... He really needs to focus on being more professional

    Order Number 4

by Vape on 2014-10-10The Orpheum - Vancouver BC

We placed our order and we were not disappointed! The performances of Ryan Adams and his band The Shining were solid and full of heart. They rocked Vancouver! The set list was a mix of old and new songs that showcased the talents of everyone, great energy too. Loving the new self-tilted album and a chance to hear a few songs live makes this album a favourite. Bravo!

    Ryan Adams = superb night

    by Larry7679 on 2014-10-10Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

From the opening riff to the very end , Ryan Adams gave his audience their money's worth at the Orpheum Theatre in Vancouver BC . He came on with Gimme Something Good and entertained the audience all evening . The sound quality was crystal clear . Ryan kept the crowd entertained and seemed to enjoy himself as opposed to some artists who seem disinterested in performing . No going through the motions here , Ryan definitely made me a believer and I shall await his next musical offering and tour .

Ryan Adams delivers a flawless performance!!!!!!

    by 1Montrealer on 2014-10-10Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

Adams is a true artist with endless material, a voice that has a range from soft soulful to loud and forceful, and a technique of making his "in between chit chat" blend effortlessly into the presentation of music. He gave us a mix of his prolific store of music and some funny dialogue and he rocked the Orpheum. One of the best concerts I have attended.

Ryan Adams was good, not great

by RobertGOrr on 2014-10-10Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

I had high expectations for this show and that is probably not a good thing generally. I really like Ryan Adams but came away with a feeling that he and his band are capable of more. The band was tight, he has an amazing voice so it is tough to complain but I just wanted to get blown away. I wasn't. That said, it was a very good show, just not great. Crowd was mellow. Maybe that is a combo of the venue, the band and us Vancouverites. Not sure.

    Awesome show

by BigRyanAdamsFan on 2014-10-10Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

3rd time seeing him live, first time with the Cardinals was amazing and when I first discovered him (a little late) opening for Oasis and RA was the best act of that night, 2nd time solo acoustic was great but some annoying girl beside me was whispering lyrics through the whole set, this 3rd time rocked but I do miss the Cardinals cause him and Neal Casal had good chemistry.

    Distractions Create Wall with Audience

by bluesrobber on 2014-10-10Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

Due to a number of distractions on stage and in the audience I felt Adams never really connected with an audience that should have been putty in his hands. He seemed to be snitty with the drummer and bassist and he consistently turned his back on the audience between songs for uncomfortable periods. Nonetheless, he is an unbelievable lyricist and musician, and those of us that went for the music were well-rewarded. Butch Walker did work the audience with flawless pitch that arched seamlessly into a falsetto with fantastic range and tone. Butch was my take home memory for the night!

A high Ryan Adams makes for great entertainment!

by VoxPopuli on 2014-10-10Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

MUSIC: Great band, great vocals, all solid. His song selection, frankly, sucked. He clearly didn't give a rip about playing what anybody might want to hear and instead loaded his set with more obscure tracks (and not in a good way) from his discography. There were probably 2 entire albums' worth of great songs you didn't play. RYAN ADAMS: The dude and his band were high as a kite. It didn't affect their playing or singing at all but did cause Ryan to be the most entertaining between-songs banter-er I've ever seen. His interaction level with the crowd was unparalleled, his humour quick and cutting. LIGHTS: The worst lighting I've ever seen. I think they just rented a few fixtures and left them set to "demo" mode. It was genuinely pathetic. BOTTOM LINE: If I went to see him again it would be because HE is so entertaining - not because the show was good musically.

Give me something good, give me something good....

by Teleking on 2014-10-10Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

Unusual. That's my take on Ryan Adams. Band was only ever back lit so that was kind of odd. The material doesn't really have guitar or keyboard solos just a middle section "rave up" like the Yardbirds used to do. Most of the night the vocals were hard to understand. Too low in the mix. Near the end of the show Ryan Adams decided to cover the Bryan Adams song "Run to You". Ryan squeaked out several times during this mediocre cover showing that he just didn't have the vocal chops to pull it off. Ryan also had a lyric book at his feet that he kept flipping through. Just looked unprofessional to me. I could have done without opening act Butch Walker's maudlin whining dirges all together. Yup. There you have it.

    Encore!

by Sofolof on 2014-07-27State Theatre - Portland

This venue offered guests to stand up or to chose their own seats. The show was incredible. DRA was amazing with his band and what a difference from his solo performance. Sound was good even for front row. It lasted a good length of time conpared to other past events. The song choice was perfect and what a treat to have had 4 new songs performed for the first time. What a great entertainer in between songs! I would see again and again and again.
