SHABAZZ PALACES IN CONCERT:

Experimental hip hop duo Shabazz Palaces slices up samples, adds insane sound effects to their vocals, and reinvents their beats in real time during their psychedelic and inventive live shows. Palaceer Lazaro delivers his smooth lines with a cool and confident vibe over the top of the group's funky and ever-changing rhythms. Fly Guy ‘Dai occasionally lends his angelic voice to the swirling mix and creates atmospheric rhythms by banging on everything from cymbals, congas, to even thumb pianos. All of these sounds get sampled and resampled to create a unique soundscape that remains fluid and dynamic as the band falls into a psychedelic groove. As they play their 2014 masterpiece Lese Majesty on tour, Shabazz Palaces are sure to intoxicate ticket buyers with their experimental sonic brew.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Rapper/producer Palaceer Lazaro (AKA Ishmael Butler, formerly of Digable Planets) and percussionist/vocalist Fly Guy ‘Dai (AKA Tendai Maraire) formed Shabazz Palace in 2009 in Seattle. In their first year together they self-released two impressive EPs -- first, Eagles Soar, Oil Flows and then The Seven New. These adventurous albums helped them become the first hip hop group to sign to revered indie label Sub Pop. Their full-length debut Black Up dropped in 2011 and earned the group national acclaim. After a rigorous touring schedule the band received international praise in 2014 with the album Lese Majesty, which expanded their already-eclectic sonic palette while honing their psychedelic songwriting chops. With catchy new singles like “They Come in Gold” and “#Cake” added to their set, the band has continued to grow their following as they tour the world and blur the lines between hip hop and art.
