  • Shen Yen

by Cocoadog on 2025-04-23Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 4 out of 5

This was our third opportunity to see this extraordinary performance and it met our expectations . Beautiful backdrops were exhilarating. Always intrigued by the way digital technology is used to display the musical story and entertain you with such gorgeous costuming and talented performers.

  • A bit of magic

by Izaak Veenstra on 2025-04-23National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - OttawaRating: 5 out of 5

If you enjoy live orchestration and dance you will love Shen Yun. Words can’t describe the experience, it is a bit of magic.

  • underwhelmed

by Dee on 2025-04-23National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - OttawaRating: 3 out of 5

I was very surprised by how disappointing the show turned out as it had been hyped and commercials were everywhere. It was very monotonous - the dancers movements were very similar in each scene although the technical part of the dance was amazing. The costumes were very colourful for the female dancers and dull for the male dancers (not sure if that is a cultural decision). The scenes were individually introduced in 3 languages which broke up the continuity of the dances. The first persecution scene was very heartbreaking and spoke volumes but to have additional scenes added in that vein seemed overdone (especially as there were several children in the audience). I would have enjoyed more introduction and explanations at the beginning of the show and less between each scene as well having having all the dancers together in one last dance. It seemed very separate and individual but that could have been a cultural decision as well.

  • Not to the hype

by VS on 2025-04-23Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 3 out of 5

There were parts that were amazing, the timing for jumping into the screen and the peacock dance, musical instrument and Orchestra were beyond. However, the soprano solo was off key and not enjoyable at all and a lot of the rest of the show was less than expected.

  • Still the best performance production.

by K-man on 2025-04-22National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - OttawaRating: 5 out of 5

Took my GF and mom in law to their first Shen Yun show. Beyond impressed and utterly in awe of the skill, poise and pure skill of the performers. From singers to dancers and musicians, etc. You all deserve accolades ten fold. 3rd time I seen a Shen Yun production. I adore the diversity of the new choreography and programs each year. We will be back again for sure. Cheers, keith

  • A beautiful show!

by Jess on 2025-04-22National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - OttawaRating: 4 out of 5

The dances and costumes are fantastic, and the story telling is effective. The “modern day” pieces portraying communist violence threw me off, though. The singing as well was beautiful, but the lyrics made me uncomfortable.

  • Nice perofmrance, a bit too much of Falun Gong in it

by Alex on 2025-04-22National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - OttawaRating: 3 out of 5

It is what it is - a nice to see performance overall, you just have to be a Falun Gong follower or you have to find a mental way to separate that portion of the show from the rest, which is hard to do, since it's all intertwined there.
