About

Sophie Allison has always written candidly about her life, making Soccer Mommy one of indie rock's most interesting and beloved artists of the last decade. Allison has used Soccer Mommy's songs as a vehicle to sort through the thoughts and encounters that inevitably come with the reality of growing up. After all, Soccer Mommy began as a bedroom-to-Bandcamp exercise with teenage Allison posting her plaintive songs as demos. Over the years, though, she has often enhanced that sound, using the endless production possibilities, newly at her fingertips, to outstrip singer-songwriter stereotypes. The records would start with songwriting's kernels of truth, and she would then imagine all the unexpected shapes they could take. Every Soccer Mommy record has felt like a surprise.

  • Left early to get nachos

I knew this concert would be a bit more on the the relaxed side but I didn’t expect to be lulled to sleep. Every song dragged into the next with little to no differentiation. Even more upbeat songs were played in a somber moan. I couldn’t understand a word that was said or sung, which might’ve been the fault of the artist or the audio engineer at the venue. Either way, the opener had a couple flute solos so that’s why this concert managed to get 2 stars.

  • Friend called it a “snooze fest”

The Opening band “tops” was incredible. Vocals sounded great, guitar tone was clean and crisp, the singer was ripping flute solo’s. I had never heard of them until I saw them live and was seriously impressed and entertained the entire time. Some feed back from the mic but what show completely doesn’t have that? Can’t blame them for it. I was stoked to see soccer mommy, been listening to her for a couple years and was excited to get the live experience. My excitement quickly turned to boredom as they played everyone of their songs with a toned down energy. Sound for soccer mommy was terrible, couldn’t hear Sophie’s vocals, could barely hear any of the guitars. All you could hear was the drum and the bassist, who were really fantastic musicians but would have loved to hear some riffs. I’ve been to the commodore heeps of times and the sound has always been fantastic. Whoever the band had brought on as sound tech should get the boot. The ear piercing feedback from the microphone struck the crowd loads of times during soccer mommy’s set making people in the crowd hold their ears shut. I’ve watched tons of live videos of soccer mommy on YouTube and had always been impressed, I’m hoping that this show was just an off night for them and they continue to keep rocking shows for the rest of tour.

They sounded amazing! The drummer was exceptional and Sophie nailed it as usual. :-)
