SPOON IN CONCERT:

Veteran art rockers Spoon continue to enjoy both indie cred and mainstream popularity, entering their third decade together as one of independent music's most visible crossover successes. As creative in concert as they are in the studio, the band has earned a reputation as a consummate live act, consistently thrilling fans on their critically acclaimed tours with ambitious renditions of fan favorites like "I Turn My Camera On" and "Stay Don't Go". Whether they're treating ticket buyers to cuts from 2014's They Want My Soul or covering bands like the Smiths and Guided by Voices, Spoon brings a passion and energy to the stage that always elevate their shows to the next level.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Spoon was formed in Austin in 1993 by lead singer and guitarist Britt Daniel and drummer Jim Eno. Following a 1994 EP release the band signed to Matador Records, debuting their first full-length album Telephono to mixed reviews in 1996. By the time the band released the Soft Effects EP in 1997 they had begun to hone in on the more polished, minimal sound they would become known for, but it wasn't until they released the album Girls Can Tell in 2001 that they finally achieved breakthrough success. A string of critically and commercially successful albums followed throughout the decade, including two No. 1 records on the Top Independent Albums chart -- 2005's Gimme Fiction and 2007's Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga. With their highly anticipated eighth album They Want My Soul hitting shelves in 2014, Spoon has fans eagerly awaiting their next live shows.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Spoon was excellent. Tight, professional. Brit rocked the house. They played old as well as new material."

"I highly recommend seeing them live, because they're fantastic musicians and they play a very interesting set as compared to their albums."

"Spoon's show was as awesome and intricate as their complex studio albums! To be able to pull off the complexity of their studio recordings live was amazing to hear and see. They were so tight and I don't think they made a mistake, and the light show was awesome as well."

    Best concert I’ve been to.

by Grant on 2022-07-14London Music Hall - London

Master musicians, doing what they do best. Plus, I was able to meet Britt (lead singer). I saw the rest of the band as well walking around. But was too nervous to go up to them! But gained the courage to talk to Britt.

Great sound! Just like their songs, light show fun, danced all night.

A set list with all the hist (and more) from the past five albums only confirmed that they are one of the best live acts around these days.

    Starting acts were bad!

    by nodoubtfan101 on 2010-04-21Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

Starting acts we very bad, the crowd was not into the concert at all. Spoon is a more reserved band, slower beats, therefor, bad starting bands, bad concert. Spoon was good.

    Spoon was amazing!!

by hdally on 2010-04-20Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

I loved every single minute of it...I especially enjoyed the fact that it was in the Orpheum making it easy to sit back and enjoy the performance. The performance itself was unforgettable, Spoon really know how to put on a show!! The quality of the sound mixed with the retro, bare minimum style of lighting was quite a combination, taking the concert to another level. I would most definitely recommend a Spoon show to anybody and everybody!! :D

    Spoon at the Orpheum

by Andman on 2010-04-14Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

Excellent Venue, the acoustics in the Orpheum are terrific! In between opening bands we were happy to be able to walk through the halls and revel in the beauty of the theater. Spoon was as classy as they were rocking out, I will definitely see them again and hope for a Canadian Tour ASAP.

    spoon-fed greatness

by jlarbu on 2010-04-13Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

spoon was great. they played songs from all eras and a couple covers, it's hard when you're in a place like the orpheum and you want to get up and dance but there's no dancing allowed! deerhunter however was an absolute snooze-fest. i was excited to see them live as I've heard a bit of their stuff and was intrigued but the show was boring and felt long at 45 minutes. back to spoon. they were all over the stage, lighting was good, brit talked with the crowd enough to keep us engaged. I'd say the whole event, from micachu thru deethunter thru spoon was suffering through some audio mixing difficulties, which was disappointing. definitely worth seeing though, those spoon fellows know what they're doing!

    Solid Show from Spoon

by Kriskaz on 2010-04-13Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

This was my first time seeing one of my favourite bands in concert and they did not disappoint. Played all my faves, from "I Turn My Camera On" , "I Summon You" and "Underdog" to "Written in Reverse" and "Cherry Bomb". The only one they didn't play that I wished they had was "Stay Don't Go", but you can't have everything. The Orpheum is such a great room - the acoustics and mix were spot on, even when it got (a little) loud. I have only two criticisms - One: I'm sure it's all about money, but Spoon really should travel with a couple of backup singers and a horn section. On songs like "Underdog", the live version (without the horns) sounds like a demo. Two: What was with the lame light show? The whole set looked like an afterthought, and there was no rhyme or reason to the various lighting schemes. The really bothersome lights were the really bright ones they shone into the eyes of the crowd way too often. Minor bitches, though. It was a truly great show.

    Simple but effective...

by SpookyValve on 2010-04-12Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

Spoon put on a really great show, and I think they chose a really good venue with the Orpheum. Their songs can be a little rough (on purpose) and this really translates well to the live show. It wasn't a lot of big flash, but they played a lot of great songs and seemed to be really enjoying themselves. Deerhunter was a pretty good opener, and Micachu & the Shapes were cool as well, it's a shame they only played a half hour set.

    Expected better

by Nortile on 2010-04-12Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

Opening bands were lackluster. Deerhunter played too long for a Sunday night. Spoon sounds much better on their CD's.

    Spoon totally rules.

by PakoTheAwesome on 2010-04-12Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

It was an outstanding show, the Deerhunters opening for them, turned out to be pretty good, and the entire performance by Spon was outstanding. great sound, great instrumentals, entertaining stage presence and a lot of superb style. Cool cover song too, we liked that.

    A decent show

by Boot on 2010-04-12Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

Really wanted it to be kick ass - but in the end it was alright. Kind of lost the audience a few times and didn't seem to pick it up when needed. That said - they were tight however and we had a good time.

    meh

by SelfishGene on 2010-04-12Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

brutal acoustics. music played too loud, which seems to be a feature of concerts nowadays. wear earplugs or you'll never hear another concert again. wear earplugs because the bass alone will turn the whole event into a scrambled mess without them.

    THE BEST.

by ohthewren on 2010-04-12Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

The absolute best, the venue was beautiful, the opening bands were great, and Spoon itself was fantastic! I wish I could have invited everyone I knew.

The sound was unbalanced, too much feedback, vocals and drums were too loud. Also the lighting was confusing and all over the place. I just think if the singer is singing there should be some sort of spotlight on him.

Spoon is a band i saw.

by Janke on 2010-04-12Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

Spoon was awesome. the opening bands however were pretty terrible. They obviously didn't care much about them because they were mixed quite poorly. Such is common though, and who really cares in the end. My only complain is that the lighting was very obnoxious and persistently blinded me. A little Distracting, for sure.

too much distortion and bad sound

by justthisguy on 2010-04-12Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

Maybe it was because of where I was sitting (middle of balcony), but the sound mix was way off for me last night. Also don't like the direction Spoon is going with all the extra distortion and effects. I miss their cleaner rock and roll sound. Opening acts were a disappointment too. Not a terrible night, just a lot less than I was expecting.

One of the worst shows I have ever seen.

by verbomatic on 2010-04-12Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

The openers were horrible. Just overly loud noise. Spoon was so-so. Their live sound is nowhere near as enjoyable as their album sound. To noisy and unmelodic. I almost left halfway through the set.

    Spoon needs to find support

by mikw on 2010-04-12Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

The headliners were everything we expected; tight, articulate, talented and catchy. The opening bands were ear-destroying.

My bf introduced me to Spoon a wee while ago, so this was the first time I had ever seen them live. I was blown away!
