  • Steve Earl was amazing!!!

by dw2010 on 2010-01-27Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

You couldn't ask for a better live performance. Steve Earl sounded better live than anything on a cd or the radio. He had great stories behind each song and played the guitar amazingly! I would definitely recommend this to everyone. Great overall performance.

  • Not what I expected!

by Steps on 2010-01-27Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 3 out of 5

Just a one man show...Steve and his acoustic, with him playing only four of what I call his songs: "My old friend the blues", "Someday", "I ain't ever satisfied" and "Copperhead Road" which was the last song in the encore! Probably wouldn't go see him again!

  • Best I've ever experienced!!

by Bonnie2010 on 2010-01-27Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

This was the most heartfelt, lay it all on the line concert I've ever been to. Very personal and gutsy, beautiful sound and great stories in between. More musicians should take the time to tell stories like this to their audience to make it an unforgettable experience like this one was. Absolutely loved it and love Steve Earle even more than before if thats possible. Opening act Hayes Carll was phenomenal also, great stories, unique voice, and nice sound. Overall just awesome.

I wasn't very pleased with the concert at all. I was expecting at least a full band to back up Steve Earle!! I left the concert at 9:30pm, couldn't handle it anymore. Same goes for his opening act!! What was that?!

  • Solo Steve Shines

by Fitzsidu on 2010-01-27Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

I have been lucky enough to attend many Steve Earle concerts and, as usual I was not disappointed - His guitar playing style is more evolved than ever and his musicianship - outstanding. I really like the rock side of Steve but this accoustic performance was top notch and a great tribute to his mentor T V Z. Go and enjoy America's most prolific songwriter's tribute to his greatest influence -

  • Steve Earl was Amazing!

by lauren3963 on 2010-01-27Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

Steve Earl is a beautiful, dark, poetic singer and songwriter. Hearing him sing with just his guitar, no glitz, no glam, was unforgetable and having seen many concerts over the years, this concert was one of my favorites. Townes would have been proud.

  • Talented

by Tommygun on 2010-01-27Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 4 out of 5

Steve Earl is a talented guy, no doubt about it. Pretty cool to see a guy exposed on stage no other noise or contribution, i would go to see him again.

  • Steve Earle. Live, raw and unforgetable.

by Dallylamma on 2010-01-27Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

Steve Earle brought his passion and love for the music of his friend and teacher Townes Van Zandt to the stage last night in an engaging and riveting show. Steve Earle is a must see for any fan of real music.

  • Out of the ordinary

by Drewbert on 2010-01-27Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 4 out of 5

I went to this concert for the opening act, Hayes Carll. I was very pleaseantly suprised by the concert in it's entirety. The first thing I noticed was the absence of a band. Both hayes Carll and Steve Earl just stood up on stage playing their guitars and singing. there were lots of stories told and for once I could actually hear the words in songs I didn't know, All of steve earls songs. Steve seemed to be steeling the story of his encounters with Towns VanZant all through out the concert, some one I am not familliar with but fell the need to research now. The only problem I had was the rowdy's behind me calling for Copper Head Road after every song. And when he did finally sing Coper Head road as an encore, it paled in comparison to the rest of the concert

  • Disappointed

The opening act was a half hour ordeal. Then another half hour before Earle came on. The rest of the show was mediocre at best. Jubilee is not the venue for him. He would probably be good at someplace like Camrose, after midnight, and after you've had your 29th beer of the day.

It was unbelievable! Much better than we expected.

  • Great as usual

It was a great mix of Steve's songs...Townes songs...and some great story telling.

  • Steve Earle is the Maestro!!!!

by Scope on 2010-01-27Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

The show was fantastic. I have seen Steve play quite a few times and once again walked away from the show in awe. He did an amazing tribute to Townes while showcasing his extraordinary talent.' Solo acoustic shows can sometimes be a little too minimal but not this one. I walked into the Jubilee not knowing who the opening act was but when I saw Hayes Carll's name on a t-shirt I knew it was going to be a special nite - and it was. What a show!!!

  • Something for Earle, Van Zandt, and Collett Fans

by JaneL on 2009-07-13Massey Hall - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

While Jason Collett was perhaps an unexpected opening act for Steve Earle, his simple but haunting performance was tonally in keeping with Earle. Both performed without bands, relying largely on their spare, deft acoustic guitar-playing. Longtime Steve Earle fans appreciated his frequent personal anecdotes, though newer listeners or those who take a keener interest in Earle's music than in the cult appeal of Southern rock/blues were doubtless equal parts mystified and bored. Those who attended expecting "Copperhead Road" and other older Earle favourites would have been largely disappointed, though Earle included a nod to them by playing "Copperhead Road" as the last song of his encore. Townes Van Zandt fans, though, would have gotten the most out of this concert, hearing everything from "Colorado Girl" to "Marie" in a show that is part of what is presumably the first Van Zandt tour since his death twelve years ago. All in, an excellent performance by Earle and an enjoyable concert, minus the few overzealous country boys shouting from the left upper mezzanine.

  • Steve Earle

    by matty123 on 2009-07-13Massey Hall - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

I've been listening to his music even before he had real success.First time I saw him live, was at a bar in Kingston Ont.back in the mid 80's He was good then , and fabulous now. A song writing God - stays true to his music . Wish I could let him hear some of my stuff ( I was a semi- professional musician and songwriter 7

  • Steve Earle perfection

by whyisnicknamemandatory on 2009-07-13Massey Hall - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

From beginning to end this was a great show. He knocked out the biggest MF in the yard to start and kept it up all the way through. A great tribute from a great artist to a great artist. May be difficult for some that go expecting Copperhead Road and Guitar Town, but don't worry he'll play them eventually. In the meantime, sit back and enjoy a spectacular performance

  • Great!!!

by awst on 2009-07-13Massey Hall - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Very well recieved. Great night! Steve covering his mentor and friend Townes Van Zandt .Nice to see him all by himself with no one else on stage.

  • A great evening

by DavePettimore on 2009-07-12Massey Hall - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Steve is a thnking person's musician, his prose is carefully thought out, he's humble and appreciative of the audience and seemed to be overwhelmed we enjoyed his playing of Townes' music. He did not disappoint in playing his original music and even let the audience sing some of the chorus. Its a relief from some of the concerts where the "performer as god" throws out songs and expects immediate love back from the audeince. An outstanding show.

  • Great One Man Show

by MammaB on 2009-07-12Massey Hall - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

From a great set by Jason Collett to the eventual deployment of the Copperhead Road payload as the final encore, this was a fantastic night.
