About

Considering the astonishing gifts he has already given us through his music, do we even have the right to expect any more from Stevie Wonder? Maybe, maybe not, but the truth is the artist whose first No. 1 hit came five decades ago with "Fingertips" is in the midst of a creative explosion akin with his greatest years in the 1970's. For his first studio recordings in eight years, Wonder, the rare touring act who can be called genius without qualification, has produced not one but two records, both as distinct in their origin as they are in their intention. To fulfill a promise made to his mother who passed away in 2006, Wonder is making he first foray into gospel music; he's also making an additional record that reflects not only his growing interest in hip-hop but also personal heartbreak stemming from among other things his recent divorce.

But none of this should indicate that the Motown legend is turning his back on his monumental legacy. The owner of over 50 top 40 singles has recently taken to thrilling ticket buyers by playing the entirety of his 1976 diamond selling classic Songs in the Key of Life live in concert. It is a rare that in our lifetime a legend of Stevie Wonder's stature could find equal inspiration reaching into the future as well as the past. It is rarer still that he is able to share his joyous visions in all their power with anyone fortunate enough to catch this Rock and Roll Hall of Famer on tour.

    1. Sound - the music was louder than the vocals 2. Performance - I paid good money to listen to his signature songs - instead Stevie was teaching vocal 101 3. Stevie did not play part time lover and other signature songs 4. Kind of disappointed - last song should his signature song - instead it was something I had never heard 5. Overall - 6 out of 10

    Wonder-ful night

    by Bassman73 on 2015-07-15Scotiabank Saddledome - Calgary

It was great to finally see Stevie Wonder on concert. He's been on my list for ages. Floor seats were great and could generally see everything that was going on. Great musicians all around, and there's no denying Stevie's vocal abilities. For me, poor choices by whomever provided sound production kept this concert from being awesome. Bass was muddy and the poor definition detracted from the band working together as a unit. Couldn't hear backing vocals, and horn section was barried. Drums and percussionists overplayed throughout the night, amplified by the fact that they were the loudest instruments through the mains... Simplicity would have done much more service to the songs, as Stevie's melodies are so strong that they don't need to be overshadowed by the band. I wasn't disappointed by the show at all, the performance will stay in my memory for ages. A bit of tweaking with the sound would have made it that much more enjoyable.

    Wonder-ful

Loved seeing Stevie and his band in cowboy hats! Stevie is of course an outstanding performer. His backup singers could each have their own careers, phenomenal talent. Just speechless when it comes to his band, especially the bass player.

    Disappointing

by concertlovinKatie on 2015-07-15Scotiabank Saddledome - Calgary

We were so looking forward to seeing Stevie Wonder stampede week ,he has been my fave for decades love, love his music .However ,We thought there were one or two problems with the concert his band is waaaaay too big and plays above Stevie's voice ,one drum set would be enough ,one other keyboard player, maybe two on the guitar and at most two back up singers (who most of the time you can't hear anyway) Stevie's voice is still so wonderful but we paid $185 to hear him sing not talk ,that was disappointing all the talking and audiance participation ,feel very honoured to have seen this musical icon but wouldn't see him again.

    Stevie just Wonderful

    by 60somethin on 2015-07-15Scotiabank Saddledome - Calgary

This was a good show but for the price I expected amazing!!! I had never been to a Stevie Wonder show despite listening to him for almost 50 years. The backup talent was amazing but I thought underutilized. The highlight of the show was the solos of the backup singers-- not to denegrate Stevie but he was too much the show and was a bit of a let down. I would have left happier if he had given up some control to his great players and singers.

    Stevie's Still Got IT!!

by ShowHound on 2015-07-15Scotiabank Saddledome - Calgary

Great show, crazy pipes on Stevie... unbelievably talented back-up band and singers. I was hoping the show would be good, but it was GREAT! Exceeded my expectations significantly. Extremely impressive performance all around, particularly from Stevie, in what SHOULD be the twilight of his career. No signs of slowing down on his part... limber fingers, and golden pipes. I read some reviews that he hadn't played his popular songs... not so for this show! Every song (with the exception of 2 or 3 new songs dispersed throughout the concert) was a MAJOR HIT! If you didn't know the songs, I don't know where you've been for the last 30 - 40 years because most of these songs would be really difficult to avoid hearing in the majority of this Planet! It's actually shocking to be reminded that he has such an immense a repertoire of hits.

    Stevie Wonder is wonderful!

by Anonymous on 2015-07-15Scotiabank Saddledome - Calgary

Bought tickets as a gift for my 16 year old son who played Stevie's song Superstitious in band. Having finished off the school year with excellence, when he said he would love the chance to see Stevie live I knew this was the reward! We both enjoyed the performance more than words can say. Only complaint-it was super loud even from back where we sat/stood, making some songs sound very distorted and difficult to enjoy. Overall Stevie's love for what he does, for his fans and the message of love he shared made it a memorable experience we will cherish!

    Stevie WonderFUL

by CathyMac on 2015-07-15Scotiabank Saddledome - Calgary

Stevie put on a great concert to close the 2015 Calgary Stampede. He was belting out the tunes like he was 30 years younger. Amazing voice, as always. One negative though, there were times the sound of the music was wonky, I think due to the size of the venue. I would go see him again though. Security and the orderly flow at the facility was excellent and leaving the building was organized and civilized. Thanks.

    Wonderful ... Stevie Wonder!

by Urbanite on 2015-07-15Scotiabank Saddledome - Calgary

What a class act! Stevie and his band came out in their white hats and engaged with the Calgary Stampede audience. He has so many songs he could have played all night long but he was just as good as I had always imagined. What an music icon! What a terrific singer and a wonderful concert.

Stevie Wonder: Songs in the Key of Life Performanc

by Dellse on 2015-02-09Air Canada Centre - Toronto

What a show! Yes! Stevie arrived late but he made up for it especially towards the end. Stevie's show doesn't have the best of exciting lights and glamour but his personality and vocals... priceless! Stevie kept us jamming throughout the entire show.
