About

Sting is a 17-time Grammy-winning artist and a founding member of the pioneering new wave band The Police. Born in Wallsend, England, Gordon Sumner, a.k.a. Sting, became one of the best-selling artists of all-time as the bassist and frontman of The Police. The band released five studio albums and six Top 10 singles, including the Sting-penned No. 1 hit “Every Breath You Take,” before disbanding in 1986. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003, and their 2008 reunion tour was the third highest-grossing tour of the ’00s. Since releasing his 1985 solo debut The Dream of the Blue Turtles, Sting has been recognized with a British CBE and an Emmy, featured at the Kennedy Center Honors and inducted to the Songwriters Hall of Fame. He has also received four Oscar nominations, and his 2014 Broadway musical The Last Ship, which was inspired by his childhood and featured music and lyrics by Sting, was nominated for two Tony Awards. A constant experimenter of genres including jazz, pop, classical and world music, Sting won the Grammy for Best Reggae Album in 2019 with Shaggy for their 2018 collaborative album 44/876.

    Dreams do come true!

by CarChar on 2010-06-05The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

Sting's Symphonicity Tour exceeded all expectations. His performance was flawless, effortlessly delivering song after song with more passion than I've ever witnessed before. From my seat situated seven rows back, centre, I was practically eye to eye with him, and I can't tell you how moving the evening was for me. I almost didn't purchase my $450 ticket, thinking it was too expensive. I bought a pair of Stuart Weitzman shoes for $450 instead, thinking the shoes would last longer than a 2 1/2 hour concert. The shoes caused so much pain when I tried them on at home, I returned them, and bought the ticket instead. The memory of Sting's Symphonicity concert will last a lifetime. The shoes would have been worn a few times, and then left in the closet and forgotten.

Loved all the songs and it was such an amazing concert! Desert rose was the most memorable song for me--along with Russians.

SIMPLY AMAZING! This concert was worth EVERY penny and reminded me what a real artist does! Sting sounds better than ever. His presence is infectious and his voice is in perfect form. He sang from 8:15 to almost 11:30 with only one break in between for breif period of time. There were no "solos" by musicians used as filler in order to give him a break. He has however assembled the best of the best! The symphony and conductor were amazing, his one backup singer is his female vocal counterpart and accompanies him perfectly without getting lost or overpowering him. The guitar. drums etc....flawless! A once in a lifetime experience!

    A wistful presentation

by CCRGuy on 2010-06-04The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

I found the blend of familiar Sting's still strong voice teamed with the lush and clear orchestra quite a contrast to the rock and roll concerts of high volume.

by babybop on 2010-06-03The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

I loved it, every single minute was unforgettable; it was more than expected, with the most stunning performance that Sting could do, and the most impressive concert an orchestra can perform. Super, amazing, astonishing, marvelous, incredible and wonderful…

    Superb Sting

by Simbadog on 2010-06-03The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

I first saw Sting pre Police in Last Exit and have followed his career and seen him many times. I was not sure what we were going to be in for but over almost three hours we were treated to marvellous arrangements of songs from every stage of his career. Great band, great orchestra, terrific set design and presentation and our course wonderful songs beautifully sung by one of the most distinctive voices in music. Very glad I went.

    Symphonicty was Awesome

by GregM on 2010-06-03The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

What a great show - nearly 3 hours of fantastic songs from Sting's large body of work, from his days with The Police and solo career. It was well rehearsed and, while he didn't quite steal the show from the mighty Stinger, the maestro was superb, too. Special thanks to Sting for the impromptu third encore. With so much adoration in the room, he daren't stay backstage!

Sting still has the "it" factor...

by VanMom on 2010-06-03The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

Went to the opening show of his North American Symphonicity tour last night and had a wonderful, music-filled evening! His voice is still as rich as ever and we really enjoyed hearing his old tracks - especially "Why Should I Cry for You" and "Desert Rose". Sir Sting certainly still has his groove and we enjoyed every moment of it. What added to the overall show was the 42-person London Royal Philharmonic Orchestra lead by the superbly talented Maestro Steven Mercurio who was entertaining to watch alone. The orchestra and arrangements accentuated the concert and the music of Sting. Also, very talented was the backup soloist who had a beautiful voice. So glad that we caught this performance as orchestra and Sting enthusiasts and would recommend!

    Sting was AMAZING!

by AliCatz on 2010-06-03The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

I was so looking forward to the Sting concert. I have been a fan of his since 1979 with the Police. I've only missed one performance in Vancouver. I was so sad about that. Last night's show at the Centre for Performing Arts was incredible. You could have heard a pin drop the crowd was so quiet during the songs but burst into exuberant applause after all songs. We wouldn't let him leave! He finally did 3 encores and came out to bow about 5 times. We were on our feet! His last song was acappella. Incredible voice! The symphony behind him was fantastic. Maestro Steven Mercurio was so lively and energetic. He was dancing on his podium. It was well worth the money I paid. Sting did Next To You before the intermission. Four chords turned into a symphonic beauty. I was still singing it when I went the the bathroom. It is a show I will remember for a long time.

I thought the setting was excellent. The quality of sound in the center was very good. We were seated in the Dress Circle and our viewing of the concert was very good.

STING was such an intimate & unique concert!

by Grammommie on 2010-06-03The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

I have been following Gordan's career for over 3 decades, been to a number of his concerts over the years & was in awe of the uniqueness and intimacy of this concert. My only critique would be for him to "mix it up" a bit more as the slow songs were starting to lull me to sleep toward the end of the first show...(although that's not a bad thing had he been singing to me one on one) lol.! I LOVED every song, but being a Wed. night & getting late...well need I say more ;-) By the end though the pace picked up & the 3 standing ovations proved that we had all fallen under his spell once again. The orchestra, etc. was amazing & I LOVED the conductor. :-)

Sting and the Orchestra were amazing!

by Vanfan2 on 2010-06-03The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

This concert will be memorable for many reasons: the venue is superb for a concert, our seats, dead centre of centre orchestra were amazing, Sting is aging so gracefully, the Maestro was talented and energetic, his back-up vocalist was talented and lovely to watch. I grew up on The Police and have now seen Sting in concert at least 5 times and every performance is different but always very enjoyable. Thank you Sting!!

True Pure Artist - Must See!

by DonnaDonut on 2010-06-03The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

I enjoy Sting, have all of his CD, but now I love Sting. Can you imagine sitting in the Centre for Perorming Arts, amazing sound quality, beautiful comfortable seats, and before you is the London Philharmonic Orchestra, and sitting ( well he actually stood) in front of you, almost like in my living room is Sting. Just like he was having a peronal conversation with you, except of course he was singing. The selections from his past included all my Police favorites, but he also gave us a chance to hear the other side of Sting the songs you probably have not heard, and well that is where he showed us his soul. Big, big thanks to the London Philharmoic - wow, his band, the sound crew, you all did amazing! I will never forget this show, and will tell all!!!

An Evening with the Artist Sting

by Eightiesgirl on 2010-06-03The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

This concert was such a beautiful way to capture the music that Sting is known for. With the Royal Phil backing him and the volume at an enjoyable decible, it was so easy to just sit back and enjoy the melodies and the sultry sound of his voice. He reached out to his audience in a very personable way, and gave us that last number alone like it was just he and I at the door saying goodnight. Everyone seemed to be basking in the warmth of his music. One could truly say he gave us lovely evening to remember.

    Excellent!!!

by YVRboy on 2010-06-03The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

A very up-close, insightful, almost personal experience. Small venue, full orchestra, excellent acoustics & the man himself... with his veritable collection of unbelievable creativity spanning 35 years. He just outdoes himself everytime. The last time he was a rockstar with the police a couple of years ago. This time he was a very distinguished performer. The guy doesn't cease to amaze. Watch out for 'Next to you'!! Two thumbs up!

3 hours of one of the best concerts...EVER!

by ChrispyBoner on 2010-06-03The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

These days, it's hard to find a live performer who can can carry a tune & do it beautifully (& a capella too!); read, compose & arrange music in more than one genre; pronounce correctly & use the words "détente" and "banal" in a sentence; & last but not least, a quick dry wit. Well I found him & it was Sting at the opening night of his Symphonicity Tour - it's the most I've ever paid for a concert ticket, but it was worth every penny & I'd do it again in a quick moment. Smaller venue with great accoustics & seats with great sight lines (was about a dozen rows back from the stage). The musical arrangements were lush, Sting's voice exceptional, & the quantity of songs highly satisfying. Dominic Miller's guitar playing...can't say enough about that! Backup singer, Sting's band & the orchestra complemented his performance beautifully.
