About

Sting is a 17-time Grammy-winning artist and a founding member of the pioneering new wave band The Police. Born in Wallsend, England, Gordon Sumner, a.k.a. Sting, became one of the best-selling artists of all-time as the bassist and frontman of The Police. The band released five studio albums and six Top 10 singles, including the Sting-penned No. 1 hit “Every Breath You Take,” before disbanding in 1986. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003, and their 2008 reunion tour was the third highest-grossing tour of the ’00s. Since releasing his 1985 solo debut The Dream of the Blue Turtles, Sting has been recognized with a British CBE and an Emmy, featured at the Kennedy Center Honors and inducted to the Songwriters Hall of Fame. He has also received four Oscar nominations, and his 2014 Broadway musical The Last Ship, which was inspired by his childhood and featured music and lyrics by Sting, was nominated for two Tony Awards. A constant experimenter of genres including jazz, pop, classical and world music, Sting won the Grammy for Best Reggae Album in 2019 with Shaggy for their 2018 collaborative album 44/876.

    Sting = Troubador par excellence

by Sookee on 2010-06-03The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

What a fantastic show, Sting in great voice, played all the hits and then some. Fantastic back up - very stylized and cool stage set up - 4 encores! maybe 5.. over 3 hours in all.

Sting and the RPO were fabulous!

by vjs3130 on 2010-06-03The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

What a great concert! We got our money's worth, because Sting and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra played for 3 hours with only a 15 minute break! Haven't got a negative comment to make - he sang many favourites plus some lesser-known songs. The orchestra were great, particularly the Maestro whose energetic conducting added to the atmosphere. The lighting was excellent, as was the sound. The Centre was a perfect venue for this event. All in all, a great night.

    Sting can sing!

by tailfeather on 2010-06-03The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

After watching the American Idol finale and seeing all these older performers who couldn't sing a note any more I was a bit concerned that Sting might be losing it too but I needn't have worried. His voice was better than ever, strong and vibrant. At times the arrangement of the orchestra overwhelmed the songs but not his voice. We got all the old favourites from him re-interpreted with the orchestra. A few lesser known and even unknown songs came out after the intermission but he went right back to the hits and we all loved it. Fabulous show, worth the money. Loved the Centre.

    The Best of British Music

by CluseauKid on 2010-06-03The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

I saw Sting with the Police on the last tour which was good but this show was pure class. I was privelaged to see and hear so many talented people on one stage. Amazing doesn't cover it you need more stars I would give this one 10. PS: I don't normally waste writing a review. Take it from me this was special.

Sting - A night to remember!

by liveshowfan on 2010-06-03The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

This was my 5th Sting show and I must say this was my favorite. His voice was just unbelievable and his songs are at there best with orchestra arrangement. At one point he said "I have been singing these songs for a long time but with the orchestra I don't recognize them" and it's true. If you know his songs then you'll be pleasantly surprise not knowing any of them on the first note. Quite refreshing! Plus the fact that it was a small venue was also incredible. We were all so close to him. If you like Sting this is a must!

    Layers of sound

by Marezydoats on 2010-06-03The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

Layers of sound, and fibers of melodic harmony. Sting was personnable and sang as though he was twenty. The conductor of the Royal Philharmic was very animated and all the orchestra seemed to really enjoy the event. The screens overhead need better graphics and images, especially the drag queen dancing, okay to have a drag queen dancing, but lets have someone who can dance and interpret the music using fluid movements please :)

    Sting with the Royal Philharmonic

by GPinBC on 2010-06-03The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

Sting always gives a lot in concert, and last night was no exception despite the fact that it was the first show of the tour. Always the innovator, Sting offered up some classic Sting and Police tunes arranged and rearranged to take full advantage of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. I wish we could get some of those arrangements on a CD! The Centre in Vancouver was the perfect venue for what turned out to be an intimate evening with Sting – one of the most prolific singer-songwriters of our generation.

Wow, ranks in my top five ever!

by photo1 on 2010-06-03The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

Last night's Sting concert (the first in his current tour) was a very classy show. The venue, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the final encore, combined to make it an unforgettable evening. I have seen Sting in concert before, but this was a totally difference performance experience. Although for me, the overall thrill factor didn't beat out his tour a few years ago with Annie Lennox, it was still worth every penny of the ticket price. I hope there is a live cd available soon!

    Sting was Smokin' Hot!

by artfull on 2010-06-03The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

Sting delivered an unforgettable concert in Vancouver. He apologized several times for not being "on" as it was first night. NO apologies necessary! We felt intimately involved in the performance as he shared the stage with so many gifted musicians artfully. The conductor was so enthralled with his work that he at moments extracted more "personal best" from his crew. The songs are still with me this morning.

Every little thing he did was Magic!

by Deelerious on 2010-06-03The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

Unsure what to expect from Stings new journey with the orchestra, I trotted into the theatre thinking,"am I the youngest guy here or what?" Yup! I think the price of the ticket would have anyone skeptical, though upon the stage filling up with 50 musicians, it was the start to some of the greatest moments in my vast concert experiences. His choice of songs were fantastic as he mixed in some great gems from "Dream of the blue Turtles" and some obscure tracks from "All this Time", like "When the Angels Fall". As a musician, this was great to hear as it was my first song I learned to sing and play. When they took an intermission at 9:45 after "Next to You", we knew we were in for a an unbelievable night. The second half of the show was filled with some newer ballads, which I was not as familiar with, though the performance was fantastic. Two songs topped the evening: King of Pain and Desert Rose. When he started Desert Rose I thought, "oh yeah...this one....hmmm?" It was undoubtedy the best live performance of any song, anytime, on anyday(you get the picture) I have ever seen live. It was truly the magic of the night and the audience at this point would not let the poor guy finish...after 3 hours....so more they played....and then fragile of course....and then bows....and then still the poor guy...with nothing but and audience and a mic....does one more on his own. Women were crying around me....crap, I got caught up in a little sniffle too! This was the kind of show that inspired me to a level I cannot totally capture in words. If you missed this show, travel somewhere to see it! Lets not forget the Meistro! He was stunningly entertaining, without being foolishly goofy. Not sure you'll get that without seeing him.

Sting & Royal Philharmonic was amazing!!!

by Jingo on 2010-06-03The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

It was amazing how Sting's songs performed in this genre worked so eloquently. Roxanne, I Hang My Head, Every Breath You Take, even Next To You (The Police) just to name a few. The Royal Philharmonic mixed with Stings merry men and woman jelled sonically and took Sting's music to a whole new level. It's a layer of Sting revealed with a new bravado and gracious swagger. I am looking forward to getting the new CD "Symphonicity". I wouldn't be surprised if the new CD won a Grammy!

    Sting reloaded

by RNST on 2010-06-03The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

I go to a lot of concerts and can often tell what song is about to be played within 2 - 4 bars. Not last night. I was listening to the prelude and many times I didn't have a clue which way the orchestra was going. More often than not, I was very pleasantly surprised by the rendition. The set mix was a nice mixture of Sting's music over the decades including some cool versions of the Police' song. Roxanne, Message in a Bottle, and of course Every Breath you take. Winner for me was King of Pain. The entire orchestra, back up singer and Sting seemed to really hit a high point.

    At attention

by Buhdagoddess on 2010-06-03The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

Amazingly, it was like watching two separate concerts simultaneously! Sting alone, a cappella is pretty amazing, and then you put in the animated exuberance of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and its Conductor.... EXPLOSIVE. I thoroughly enjoyed the time spent in such an intimate setting, I really felt connected to the music not just in sound but in feel, Sting has a seductive energy, that is coupled by his buttery sultry voice..... it really should have been followed by a good Merlot, however I had to dash home..... I had seen sting previously when he toured with Annie Lennox, and although the combination was wonderful, the venue was too large (GM place), the Centre was exactly just for his talent. Although, I personaly think that one on one is more my taste though....lol.

    Wrapped around his finger

by itscindy on 2010-06-03The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

An unforgettable evening! Sting was charming, the venue was intimate, the sound was incredible. You could hear every word, which was important as he is such an eloquent storyteller. The crowd was polite; maybe a little too polite, but we are Canadian after all! It was the first night of the tour and it felt very special to be there. If there wasn't a lot of clapping and singing along to some of his more clap-along, sing-along tunes, it was simply because the audience sat, rapt, paying attention to every detail - the incredible orchestra, the beautiful set, the amazing sound - and were lost in it.

Sting has once again shown his strong commitment in being a true devoted artist with his superb performance that was largely enhanced by no less than the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
