  • Swooning for Swan Lake

by HappyHon on 2012-06-18Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

Amazing! I wish all my friends could have come. Felt as if I'd been playing in our neighborhood park and was suddenly in DisneyLand. Beautiful - even for a matinee. If they came back (Wow! what a thought!) I'd organize my entire address book to come. If they appear somewhere else in N. America I'd count it worth traveling just to see them again. I only wish there had been better advertising.

  • Amazing Ballet

This was an amazing performance from a world class company. It was a shame that more people were not in attendance.

  • Swan Lake was magical!

by Elina on 2012-06-18Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

Mikhailovsky ballet was wonderful, Russian orchestra just a delight. The only thing I would have liked to know before purchasing tickets: the second cast danced in the principal roles in the Saturday matinee, I would have preferred the first cast......as the prince was a very young (21) dancer who really did not emote the acting required in the drama....... Next time I choose an evening event, hoping to see the first cast in principal roles!

  • Mikhailovsky Swan Lake

by Cignet on 2012-06-18Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

Perhaps the best of all the ballets I've ever seen -- and I've seen a lot! The ultimate classical ballet. A Russian score played by a live Russian orchestra. Russian choreography performed by top Russian dancers. Swan Lake as it was meant to be. I pity anyone who loves ballet and missed it.

  • Stunning performance

by majesty on 2012-06-18Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

I do not know a lot about ballet but I was on the plane from Frankfurt with the whole crew and decided to go. I was entranced and more than onc was carried away by the music - especially the trumpeteer. They deserved a much larger audience but they did get a much-deserved standing ovation. I think I started at the top and if I go to other ballets, they will have to measure up to the superb dancing, fsbulous costumes and stunning sets. Thanks for a wonderful performance.

  • An event not to be missed.

by osobuco on 2012-06-18Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

It was a magnificent performance by the Mikhailovsky Ballet; a classical masterpiece by an outstanding Russian ballet group. The choreography was also superb, not a detail was missed. I hope they will be invited to perform in Vancouver many times over. Personally, it was a treat for the eyes and a gift for the spirit.

  • uncomfortable

Even though the ballet was good there was a serious lack of people for the last night's show. We suspected that the high price for tickets turned off a lot of people. We also realized that a large orchestra has to be paid . The new seating is the worst thing to ever happen to the Queen E . The seats are terrible beyond words and whoever selected them should be fired !Because these new seats are so bad we will have to seriously decide if we wish to sit through a performance in seats that seem to be to low to the floor.

  • This is what professional ballet should look like!

by KatV on 2012-06-18Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

What a beautiful production! The sets, costumes, and music were exquisite. And the dancing was of the highest quality. If you want to see what real professional ballet looks like come see this company in action!

  • Swan Lake

    by 60grad on 2012-06-18Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

That was hands down the most beautiful ballet I have ever seen, the dancers were faultless, and their feet were like feathers. Too bad the audience was so small, Vancouver, you missed an absolutely amazing performance. The costumes were vintage 1956, the scenery was lush and the choreography was so unique.

  • Mikhailovsky Ballet - Swan Lake

by Romester on 2012-06-17Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

Amazing - 5 Stars. It's really too bad the the house wasn't packed. I think this was because of poor advertising. I only found out through friends who, like me, have an inetrest in balletPerhaps if there was wider advertising on radio, t.v. and newspaper (we subscribe) there would have been better attendance. We all agreed that the performance was excellent. Truly very good dancing and acting. I would recommend this as a highlight of culture.

  • Ballet was ethereal!

by ShastaDaisy on 2012-06-17Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5

Swan Lake is a timeless ballet to see and the Mikhailovsky Ballet Co. was impressive. With 32 'swans' in the cast it was an impressive site on stage. Truly a magical evening.

  • Swan lake at it's best.

by NorthVancouver on 2012-06-16Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

This performance was done a company not know to me, and after reading about their theatre online, bought tickets. It was wonderful, worth every penny. The stage, the music, the dancers were unforgettable. I am sorry it was not better attended, ballet fans in the Vancouver area really missed out. The lead ballerina was superb, she made you live the moment. I would attend again-----

  • Swan Lake Mikhailovsky Ballet

by Canajienne on 2012-06-16Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5

Very worth a look. Sets and costumes were very nice; the live orchestra was a treat; corps de ballet very good; ballerina very strong and exhibited all the Russian "tricks", (sky high extensions, multiple turns), but felt her portrayal of Odette was a little too robust. The theater was barely 1/3 full on Thursday; what a shame! This is definitely a production to see, and this company deserves an audience.

  • Mikhailovsky's Swan Lake - world class

by Balletman on 2012-06-15Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

The Mikhailovsky Ballet Swan Lake production at the Queen E Theatre in Vancouver would shine at any world stage; Vancouver has never seen anything like it. The quality of principal dancers and corps de ballet, the sound of the orchestra, the set and the costumes, the rendering of the classical Petipa's choreography - it all could be proudly presented at any leading ballet centre. Siegfried and Odette (V. Lebedev and O. Bondareva) were outstanding. It's sad that Vancouverites haven't attended the performances in larger numbers. We usually have to travel very far to enjoy a comparable experience. It would be nice to be known as the cultural centre of Western Canada instead as the city of hockey riots.

  • Extraordinary performance!

by Danad on 2012-06-15Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

The great Petersburg ballet showed off one more time its grandeur and high class well recognized in the ballet world. The fine costumes and splendid decors complete the artistic picture of an unforgettable night.
