Tampa Bay Lightning History
The Tampa Bay Lightning joined the league as an expansion team (along with the Ottawa Senators) in 1992, and earned their first berth in the Playoffs in the 1995-1996 season. The Bolts began to achieve consistent success in 2002-2003; the key ingredient was 1998 first-round draft pick Vincent Lecavalier, a center who went on to play 14 seasons for the Lightning and set almost every team scoring record.
After making the second round in the 2002-2003 Playoffs, the Bolts rocketed to the Stanley Cup Final the following season behind the league's scoring leader, Martin St. Louis, the goaltending of Nikolai Khabibulin, and the efforts of Lecavalier, Brad Richards, Fredrik Modin, Ruslan Fedotenko, Cory Stillman, and captain Dave Andreychuk. The Lightning defeated the Calgary Flames in a Stanley Cup Final that included four games decided by one goal, two of which came in overtime. Fedotenko scored both goals in the clinching 2-1 victory in Game 7.
The Lightning flirted with Playoff success the next two seasons, but struggled for three years after that. After bringing in Hall of Famer Steve Yzerman as general manager, the team returned to the Playoffs in 2010-2011, 2013-2014, and again the following season, when the Bolts — boasting the highest-scoring offense in the league — won 50 games, and the Eastern Conference title. They dispatched the Detroit Red Wings, Montreal Canadiens, and New York Rangers in a hard-fought series en route to the Stanley Cup Final, where they ultimately lost to the Chicago Blackhawks in six games.
Powered by the scoring of Nikita Kucherov and Steven Stamkos, the Lightning contended again in 2015-2016, only to be turned away in the conference finals by the eventual winner of the Stanley Cup Championship, the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Lightning subsequently went on to win back-to-back titles, taking home the Stanley Cup Championship in 2020 and 2021, becoming the first-ever team to win two Stanley Cup Championships within one year. The Lightning appeared in the championship again in 2022, but lost to the Colorado Avalanche in Game 6.

Tampa Bay Lightning at AMALIE Arena
After undergoing renovations from 2011-2013, AMALIE Arena is considered to be one of the premier entertainment venues in Florida. The Tampa Bay Lightning’s 2023–24 regular season kicks off in October at home as the Lightning face off against the Nashville Predators. The Lightning play their final game of the regular season at home against Atlantic Division opponents the Toronto Maple Leafs. Here’s a list of key games to keep an eye on:

awesome arena to watch a game. Huge big screen for replays
Jets - Lightening - Jets Win!!!!!! Great game but couldn't see the action from the seats
My flight got cancelled, and I couldn't use the online method to post the tickets as I don't have an american bank account/credit card. I also kept trying phone and email to reach people to receive a print at home option, which didn't get me a response until it was too late to have any chance to sell through StubHub. Money wasted!!!
Been to many games here over the years, but it would have been nice to get info about gameday promotions. Nothing on the TicketMaster site, nothing on the TB Lightning site. Got to the arena and found out later it was Steven Stamkos Bobblehead Day - too late to get a bobblehead doll. We went to the game only because my son is a HUGE Stamkos fan. Had I known about the promotion, I would have ensured we were there early to get one. But I did not know, so my 10-year-old went home disappointed. From Canada, so was also disappointed to find your "Tim Horton's" coffee was not really Tim Horton's that is found in Canada. Was not happy when I look at seat prices, expect to pay a certain amount only to be charge about another 30% for "fees".
Cool Arena, Tampa fans behind us were mouthy, "Poor winners" you could say. Disappointed Yzerman wasn't there, at a GM meeting:(
Tampa Bay fans were very loud and involved in the game. It made for a very enjoyable game.
Hockey game was great (for both team action) Lots of Montreal fans Pregame entertainment was also very good, Irish band for St. Patrick day fun
Leafs tried to hit at the start and found Tampa too fast. Had early powerplay and couldn't connect. Amalie arena area was clean and on the water with parking close. Arena staff were very friendly. Electric streetcar took you to the old town. Traffic wasn't too bad after the game.
Seats were excellent. Game experience at the Amelie Arena was very good and kept you busy throughout the game and between periods. Exceptional facility and the centre ice screen was massive. Sometimes you got caught watching the screen and not the ice surface. Tampa certainly has a healthy following now and very rabid fans . Only negative was my Leafs only played one period and lost 4-2 Tampa was the better team tonite.
Very happy with atmosphere service and location. Enjoyed it a lot.
Great venue & game! Only complaint is that there were people coming & going all the time & missed part of the game because of people getting in & out of the rows. People should have to wait until the whistle blows before allowed in & out of the rows.
Very enjoyable nice seats good evening very good hh
Great venue, exciting game and seats were awesome. Everyone I spoke to was very friendly both staff and the fans. I would definitely go again.
I have been fortunate enough to attend hockey games in many arenas. This place is top notch. Beautiful arena that is very clean and staff are amazing. Many different food and beer options. Will definitely be back again.
Wow, great arena! sorry the Leafs lost, but good game too see while on vacation in Tampa. The food was very good, and quick too. Talked to some great Lightening fans, thanks Jackie and Amy! very nice to talk hockey and learn some local facts with some of the Tampa season ticket holders. Very nice facility. And, thanks for the Lighting puck at the end of the game. Deb , Hope to be back some day.
Toronto Maple Leafs at Tampa Bay Lightning, exciting game, and great atmosphere. right from the moment you arrived outside the arena at Ford Thunder alley, all the way inside. also enjoyed the Bud Light Party Deck outside my section (304). very cool to enjoy a drink or bite on the patio overlooking Thunder Alley during intermission. the entertainment during TV time outs was nice as well. great staff and a great looking arena inside and out. and a nice location too, overlooking the Riverwalk.
Beautiful arena and awesome sound system. Lots of vendors for food and drinks.
The game was good and it was a great experience overall; however, the security people would not let us take our cameras into the hockey game. I have attended games in the past where cameras weren't a problem. They said it was a NHL rule, where camera lens of greater than 3 inches were not permitted. If that was the case, whomever is making the rules knows absolutely nothing about camera gear. Is it for protection of their image and they don't want pictures captured and resold?? If that is the case, you can have a lens of 2 inches and a camera of 20+ megapixels and get high quality shots. Was disappointed over this as I thought that the team and the NHL would want to make the fan experience one of high class.
TAMPA FANS OUTNUMBERED AND OUT CHANTED BY AN ARENA PACKED WITH FANS FROM FAR AND WIDE CHEERING FOR THIS STORIED FRANCHISE. JUST A GREAT ATMOSPHERE. TAMPA FROVIDES THE PREGAME PUMP UP THEN THE PLAYERS TAKE OVER. A GREAT GAME THAT IS JUST SO MUCH BETTER LIVE AND IN PERSON.
Great game. Glad to Lightning won the game. A lot of excitement. Watching them play Buffalo right now
