About

ABOUT TAYLOR SWIFT

She is, quite simply, a global superstar.

Taylor Swift is a seven-time GRAMMY winner, and the youngest recipient in history of the music industry’s highest honor, the GRAMMY Award for Album of the Year. She is the only female artist in music history (and just the fourth artist ever) to twice have an album hit the 1 million first-week sales figure (2010’s Speak Now and 2012’s RED). She’s a household name whose insanely catchy yet deeply personal self-penned songs transcend music genres, and a savvy businesswoman who has built a childhood dream into an empire.

But the numbers don’t tell Taylor's story half as well as she could. After all, it’s the intangibles that elevate Swift into the stratosphere of our pop culture planet, allowing the 24-year old singer-songwriter to orbit in a more rarified air. Her large-scale charitable contributions are one thing, but it’s in the small gestures – the notes of compassion she posts on the Instagram photos of lovelorn fans, the genuine hugs she distributes without discretion – where Swift proves time and time again that platinum-selling, record-setting success has not changed her inherent nature. She is awkwardly honest and powerfully empathetic; a brazen superfan, loyal friend, fierce protector of hearts; and one of the world’s greatest ambassadors for the power of just being yourself.

Granted, for Taylor, “being herself” tends towards shimmering, gossamer perfection – but that’s an image regularly blown whenever she dons fake braces and a tri-pony to clown around on late night TV. She’s the first artist since the Beatles (and the only female artist in history) to log six or more weeks at #1 with three consecutive studio albums, and while she’s been named one of Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the World, she’s probably the only person on that list who uses social media to post notes to her best friends and videos of her cats.

As Billboard’s only artist to receive this nod twice and youngest-ever Woman of the Year prepares to release her fifth album, 1989, she finds herself, as always, in the glare of a blinding spotlight of expectation – but if you think that scares her, you haven’t been paying attention. She calls 1989 her most sonically cohesive collection, and armed with a multiple-week international No. 1 debut single, “Shake It Off,” she’s ready to blaze into the next phase of her still-young career, where she’ll continue to dance like no one’s watching, write like she stole our collective diary, and inevitably soar to ever-greater heights. All that’s left to wonder is how many more lives she’ll lift in the process.

    Taylor Swift -- awesome!

by Gryphon on 2009-07-09Pengrowth Saddledome - Calgary

Taylor Swift gave an unforgettable concert. She is so humble for a 19 year old teenager. Her sets were amazing, the production second to none and she managed to keep up the pace for over two hours. The crowd loved it. Our whole family went and my husband didn't mind at all that he was in the minority. We would go see Taylor Swift again in a heartbeat.

    Taylor is Truly Fearless

by Shaunna on 2009-07-09Pengrowth Saddledome - Calgary

On her new CD she claimed to be fearless. When Taylor Swift took the stage at the Pengrowth Saddledome last night, she lived up to that statement. She put on an amazing show! She was very interactive with her fans, she had numerous costume changes, and she had a little story behind most of her songs. She puts her all in to everything she does on stage. There wasn't a moment where I was bored. I was always wondering what she would do next. For her first headlining tour, she is doing a spectacular job! She is someone I would go see in concert again, anytime.

    Swift is all grown up!

by Acapella on 2009-07-09Pengrowth Saddledome - Calgary

Taylor Swift's concert has come a long way since her last performance in Calgary opening up for Rascal Flatts. The production value of her concerts has increased substantially complete with dancers, mini-movies, and multiple costume changes. Her singing is most impressive when it is just her and her guitar, becoming a little thin and hoarse on more rock numbers, and the middle 60 minutes of her show best display her vocal talent and instrumental skill. Overall, a great show!

Amazing stage performance... 'Best concert ever'

by blackhills on 2009-07-09Pengrowth Saddledome - Calgary

Taylor must have changed into at least 8 outfits, hugged at least 100 fans....sang and talked for 2 hours straight(just like Bruce Springsteen). She even had costumes for her 'Love Story' song there at the concert and had 3 couples dancing like they were in France during the 17th Century.....amazing....felt like we went back into time.... There were 6 ladies around my seats and every one of them was singing every song on her new Fearless album. Taylor even did a surprise appearance in the lower bowl while we were watching a video of her comments....she is a positive role model for a lot of young ladies including my 11 yr. old daughter. I would have paid 100 bucks to see her perform again here in Calgary with no problem....Her performance is by far above the concerts Soul 2 Soul 1 and Soul 2 Soul 2 both done by Faith Hill and TimcGraw( hence Tim McGraw song too...lol) Her costumes and her shiny Gutar definately put her in a class of her own...guess her CSI appearance helped out a lot....lol She is a performer and artist in her own place in history....she has taken Country music to a new horizon well above Carrie Underwood that is for sure!! She will continue to mature....saw her open for Brad Paisley and this concert made me wonder if this was the the same lady that I saw last year. She has dreams like all of us and she relays that power through her songs. I hope she continues her dominance on the internet and in sales for the remainder of 2009 and in her future albums..... Taylor do not forget your country roots....you do not have to do the things that Miley Cyrus does to prove anything at all...we all appreciate the rare gifts that you have...keep up the good work young lady......you have a very bright future in the Country Music industry. I am definately looking forward to seeing her again.....she would have no problem selling out back to back concerts once she has a few more albums under fer belt.....not bad for a lady who has only two albums......giving a 2 hour concert worth many, many memories.

    Taylor Swift was awesome

by Smac on 2009-07-09Pengrowth Saddledome - Calgary

The event was everything my grandaughter and I hoped it would be. Our $89 seats bought through Country 105 were awful and I talked to people who paid much less for their tickets that had way better seats than us.

    Taylor Swift was incredible!

by fraction on 2009-07-09Pengrowth Saddledome - Calgary

Taylor put on such a great show, she put a lot of effort into every song. It was like a production with changes in props, costumes, themes, etc. She was extremely interactive with her audience, changing where the stage was a few times; she even sang from the stands. Everyone in the Saddledome (not just the floor) stood the whole concert.

by CountryGirlatHeart on 2009-07-09Pengrowth Saddledome - Calgary

She was totally amazing, from the first song to the last. Her videos were funny, she sang all my favourite songs and she comes across as the type of girl who would make a great best friend. My best friend and I sang along to all the songs and we had the best time.

Taylor's concert was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!!! She is so unique and everyone absolutely loves her because each person can relate to her. She is so "real" and her songs convey situations that every person has or can feel in their life. Her props were AWESOME and it was really entertaining and fun!! She was SO great!
