About

ABOUT TAYLOR SWIFT

She is, quite simply, a global superstar.

Taylor Swift is a seven-time GRAMMY winner, and the youngest recipient in history of the music industry’s highest honor, the GRAMMY Award for Album of the Year. She is the only female artist in music history (and just the fourth artist ever) to twice have an album hit the 1 million first-week sales figure (2010’s Speak Now and 2012’s RED). She’s a household name whose insanely catchy yet deeply personal self-penned songs transcend music genres, and a savvy businesswoman who has built a childhood dream into an empire.

But the numbers don’t tell Taylor's story half as well as she could. After all, it’s the intangibles that elevate Swift into the stratosphere of our pop culture planet, allowing the 24-year old singer-songwriter to orbit in a more rarified air. Her large-scale charitable contributions are one thing, but it’s in the small gestures – the notes of compassion she posts on the Instagram photos of lovelorn fans, the genuine hugs she distributes without discretion – where Swift proves time and time again that platinum-selling, record-setting success has not changed her inherent nature. She is awkwardly honest and powerfully empathetic; a brazen superfan, loyal friend, fierce protector of hearts; and one of the world’s greatest ambassadors for the power of just being yourself.

Granted, for Taylor, “being herself” tends towards shimmering, gossamer perfection – but that’s an image regularly blown whenever she dons fake braces and a tri-pony to clown around on late night TV. She’s the first artist since the Beatles (and the only female artist in history) to log six or more weeks at #1 with three consecutive studio albums, and while she’s been named one of Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the World, she’s probably the only person on that list who uses social media to post notes to her best friends and videos of her cats.

As Billboard’s only artist to receive this nod twice and youngest-ever Woman of the Year prepares to release her fifth album, 1989, she finds herself, as always, in the glare of a blinding spotlight of expectation – but if you think that scares her, you haven’t been paying attention. She calls 1989 her most sonically cohesive collection, and armed with a multiple-week international No. 1 debut single, “Shake It Off,” she’s ready to blaze into the next phase of her still-young career, where she’ll continue to dance like no one’s watching, write like she stole our collective diary, and inevitably soar to ever-greater heights. All that’s left to wonder is how many more lives she’ll lift in the process.

    Incredibly Epic

by Serenity on 2009-07-09Pengrowth Saddledome - Calgary

I've seen a lot of concerts in my life, of all different genres, and I must say that Taylor Swift's Fearless Tour was one of the BEST. Not only were her opening bands excellent as well, her stage show was incredible! It all came together perfectly: stage presence, lights, sound, entertainment, costume changes, crowd interaction...everything! I HIGHLY recommend it for all ages. Whether you're a die hard fan, or getting dragged to go by a friend, you'll have a good time...guaranteed! :)

    Fantastic show!!!

by Dott on 2009-07-09Pengrowth Saddledome - Calgary

The Taylor Swift concert in Calgary was incredible, fans of all ages were on their feet cheering and singing along with the lyrics of her songs. Taylor is a great entertainer, who engages the audience, and almost creates a story line connecting her songs with the thread of revenge, and if you wrong her she'll write a song about it. My daughters ages 12 and 15 said it was the best concert they'd ever seen, I agree.

    Taylow Swift - Stunning!

by NewFan on 2009-07-09Pengrowth Saddledome - Calgary

I never was a Taylor Swift fan; I knew a few songs, so I had low expectations going into this concert, as I wasn't the biggest fan of her music. However, this was an unbelievable concert. By far one of the best I've ever gone to; it was simply phenomenal. Taylor is an excellent performer, and she seems amazingly humble, which is refreshing to see in today's world.

by Richard on 2009-07-09Pengrowth Saddledome - Calgary

What a great concert! Right from start to finish! Gloriana was fantastic, Kellie Pickler was even better than I thought she was and put on a great show and Taylor Swift just blew everyone away! Probably the best concert I've been to...period. Awesome band, great stage and got the crowd pumped and standing from note one.

Not the best concert I've been to

by NNCR on 2009-07-09Pengrowth Saddledome - Calgary

The concert was good, but not great. Taylor spent too much time listening to the crowd cheer and bashing boys. I enjoy listening to her sing, but not the rest of it. We get it, you write songs about boys that have broken your heart. It's getting old. It was an entertaining show, but I don't think I'd pay to see her again.

Taylor Swift is an amazing performer and person. Her stage presents is spectacular, and yet she is so humble. She was truly moved but the crowds 5 min applause, and this was only half way throught the show. Afterward, back stage, she thanked us for coming to see her! The energy from all the performances was phnominal - the costume changes, interaction with the fans, the "theatrics" - a concert that will be unforgettable

Swift was one of the best!

by Hockeylover on 2009-07-09Pengrowth Saddledome - Calgary

I have been to many many concerts from Tina Turner, to Madonna, to Tim McGraw and thought that Taylor Swift's performance last night at the Calgary Saddledome was one of the best I've ever seen. She not only sang with emotion, but her stage show, which I thought to be somewhat theatrical, was a wonderful display of entertainment and of her artistic talents. She seems genuinely humbled by the applause of the audience. I would recommend for anyone to see her Fearless tour. (and for the record and the reviews of the Calgary Herald, I am over 40 years of age)

    Taylor Swift was ok.

by fortam on 2009-07-09Pengrowth Saddledome - Calgary

I found that although Taylor Swift is a fantastic singer and entertainer, I found that the concert was a little drawn out. There were alot of delays in the show and she talked too much. It was more of a play than a concert. She's a fantastic opening act, but I don't think she's hit the "Headliner" status as of yet. I was disappointed that she didn't sing with Kelly Pickler.
