About

Tegan and Sara first established themselves as indie rock royalty in the mid-2000s. The Canadian duo released the critically-acclaimed albums So Jealous (2004) and The Con (2007), before evolving to more of a pop sound on 2013’s Heartthrob, which was produced by Greg Kurstin (Adele, Beck, Foo Fighters) and features the synth-pop hit “Closer.” Since their 1999 debut album Under Feet Like Ours, Tegan and Sara have sold over a million albums worldwide, and have played to sold-out arenas with artists like The Killers and Katy Perry. The twin sisters are also longtime activists, and are dedicated to improving the lives of LGBTQ+ women and girls through the Tegan and Sara Foundation, which they established in 2016. Their 2019 memoir High School was a New York Times best-seller, and was adapted into a television series of the same name. They released their 10th studio album Crybaby in 2022.

    Never Disappoint

by augusten on 2016-10-31Massey Hall - Toronto

I've been to my fair share of Tegan & Sara shows. Different album tours, where they have had a different sound to what they have now. I must say they know how to put on a show and I highly recommend people to see them live. Or if you haven't heard of them, check them out, pick up one of their 8 albums. Never been disappointed at their shows. It was fun, engaging with a side of classic Tegan & Sara banter/stories. Go check them out if can!

Great live band with smart music

by GuySmiley on 2016-10-12MacEwan Hall - Calgary

We really enjoyed the show, which covered a wide range of music from Tegan and Sara. There were a lot of young kids in the audience, no doubt to hear Everything is Awesome, which unfortunately wasn't played. I can imagine that this may not be their favourite song, but IMHO it would have made sense to play the song early on in the setlist and let the small kids go home to sleep, rather than not play it at all.

Tegan & Sara are always incredible!

by DragonsFan on 2016-10-10MacEwan Hall - Calgary

Tegan & Sara never fail to impress and I've seen them in concert 4 times. They have hilarious onstage banter, great energy, and they sound fabulous live. They played a good mix of songs from their new album (Love You To Death) and quite a few from Heartthrob. There was also "The Con" section, where they played some old songs. Every single one was amazing!

    Worth waiting 13 years.

    by Jas89 on 2016-10-10MacEwan Hall - Calgary

Tegan &a Sara were beyond amazing. I've waited 13 years to be able to see them live and I was not disapointed. They played old songs, remix of old songs and new songs. They were charismatic, energetic and sounded phenomenal. They were also very funny. Can't wait for another opportunity to see them.

    You Can't Stop Desire!

    by GleekFreak777 on 2016-10-10MacEwan Hall - Calgary

When I first found out that Tegan and Sara were coming to Calgary I knew without a doubt in my mind that I had to go. I gathered up two friends and purchased our tickets. Then when we arrived at Macewan Hall the pre-concert jitters began. The only issue I had with Mac Hall was that there wasn't an obvious designated area to line up for the show. By the time we found it there was already quite a few people there but that didn't crush our dreams of getting close. We were front and centre for the show with only a few people in front of us. The opening acts, Too Attached and Shura were absolutely incredible and went so well with the Tegan and Sara sound. Then when Tegan and Sara came on stage I couldn't even handle myself. They played a beautiful mix of old and new songs and by the time the encore began I wasn't ready for the night to end. Their stage set up was simple yet stunning One of the best shows I've ever seen, hands down! Venue was great, sound quality was amazing! Definitely ready for them to come back!

Best Tegan and Sara Concert Ever!

    by Kalamity36 on 2016-10-10MacEwan Hall - Calgary

This is the best sounding T&S concert I have been to....Kudos to the sound crew! I'm a big fan of Shura, so having her open was an added bonus. T&S did a great set. I actually enjoyed the remixing of some of their classics. Overall it was a pretty good mix of old and new music. There could have been more banter, but they had a lot of songs in their set so less time for chit chat I guess. The audience had a great time and as always T&S connected with their fans. Great concert!

    A great night

by kiwising on 2016-10-10MacEwan Hall - Calgary

The event was well organized. The evening started on time and the opening acts were great and good to see new artists. Tegan and Sara were energetic, involved with the audience and kept singing for an hour and a half. Definitely got our moneys worth. Only downside is that we had to stand for the whole concert- other than than an awesome night.

    Tegan and Sara was amazing!!!

by BLockhart84 on 2016-09-20Centennial Concert Hall - Winnipeg

I've watched many YouTube videos of them live and doing funny videos for years, but there is always a little worry when going to see a band live for the first time that they just might now meet the expectation, but OMG!! They were incredible!! The music was studio quality, the lighting was amazing, and Tegan and Sara were hilarious and touching and amazing models of the LGBQ community!

Tegan and Sara are a delightful duo

by hiddenagenda on 2016-09-15Centennial Concert Hall - Winnipeg

Their sound and styles have evolved but they are still just as charming as ever. I have seen these Ladies six or seven times now and there is a reason I keep going back.

    Love them so much!

by GladysRhea on 2016-09-13Centennial Concert Hall - Winnipeg

I was super excited to attend this concert! I love Tegan and Sara so much! I was thrilled to hear some of my favourite older songs of theirs--Alligator, The Con, Nineteen, Walking With A Ghost. Couldn't help but get up and dance to some of the faster songs. They played quite a few off their new album which was awesome too! I loved when the sisters interacted with each other or the audience...always a good time, always had a laugh or cheered as loudly as possible! Can't wait to see them again!

    Great festival

by TNEWMAN on 2016-05-10Grand Ballroom Sheraton Centre - Toronto

A good Canadian line-up, great venue and will plan on checking it out again next year. Feature act for me was X Ambassadors. We are true fans from the beginning. Staff were very, very cordial and helpful and the security was present and non-intrusive. Tip - after 6pm, you can park in the City Hall parking lot for just $6.00!

A great night of Canadian talent. Sorta.

by joshkh89 on 2016-05-09Grand Ballroom Sheraton Centre - Toronto

Five of the six acts who played were Canadian, and they were all incredible. My only complaint is that, while Tegan and Sara were billed as the headliner, they played second-to-last, with X Ambassadors being the final act to play. You could tell this confused a lot of people in the audience, and when Tegan and Sara finished their set list, about half the audience left and did not return. I don't know if X Ambassadors were given the final spot because they're American or what happened but I was a little disappointed that Tegan and Sara weren't the headliner despite being billed as such. They were my entire reason for going and their set was incredible, though shorter than I would have liked, again likely because they were made to open for someone else.

    Super Close (seats) Society

by Philodendrons on 2016-04-29Mile One Centre - St John's, NL Canada

I recommend getting as close as possible in case the venue doesn't have video screens. These twin sisters have such a special rapport and their in-between song banter is bordering on improv comedy. It's an added value plus they may give you a shout-out if you and your friends are really getting into it! My seats were at the side of the stage next to the drummer (and the mix) . The second half of the set was bass-heavy and the audio wasn't great presumably due to the fact that the venue is a hockey arena. I know that they've done outdoor gigs Downtown on George Street since this show, either way I highly recommended seeing them where and whenever you can.

Tegan & Sara hit the spot; engineer misses mark

by RaspberryRock on 2014-05-27Métropolis - Montreal

The show itself was great - first opening act, Motel Raphael, did a great job at getting the crowd warmed up. The Courtneys, not so much - every song sounded the same because the rhythm and drum pattern were both repetitive and everyone around me were eager for the set to finish. I grew up with Tegan and Sara's music. Given the style is more pop now, there were A LOT of teenagers which I think has caused the band to reduce the degree of their comedic banter (so sad, they're hilarious and DID have their moments!) The show itself was good - amazing lights, music was clear, and the girls didn't miss a note in their vocals. However, I was really disappointed by a few things: first, venue and professional issues. The sound engineer had their vocals WAY too low. I know all the words to their songs, and I couldn't hear them singing clearly. The only time their voices were clear was when the instrumentation would be minimal and subtle. And those moments were golden - they have beautiful voices that should be heard! Second, there was a drunk girl beside my friend and I who went overboard with dancing and practically knocking people over. Everyone was kindly trying to tell her to stop or calm down, and no security guard came. In fact, I think a bouncer had actually put her there (not sure where she had been in the audience before). Needless to say, it really ruined the end of the last song to the set (and show) for me, especially because it's one of my favorites and the band had changed it up. Now, on to some details the band could plan for in the future. While I appreciated Tegan's honesty when she was thanking the artists who opened for them and said she was going to screw up the name of the first band, but she really did and got the first of the two words wrong ("Mount" Raphael instead of "Motel" Raphael). It bothers me because: 1) my friend plays in that band; 2) as a songwriter/singer/producer myself, I would expect a professional band to know who they're sharing the stage with. With a band who is working hard to earn a bigger following, the name has to be right, otherwise how will people find them later? I love Tegan and Sara, but this was truly the first time in 18 years I was disappointed by something they've said. Lastly, there was too much smoke on stage and I could barely see the backup musicians/band. I'm not sure if this is how the band wanted it or if the venue put too much smoke. I give this 4 stars because I absolutely adore this band and mostly, it could have been better if the engineer had handled mixing more. There seem to be technical issues every time I see a show at the Metropolis.

    I miss the old stuff.

by aleria on 2014-05-27Métropolis - Montreal

The first act (Motel Raphaël) was pretty good. Nice to see some local talent. Too bad the main act couldn't remember the name of the band. The second act (The Courtneys) was atrocious. I've seen my share of amateur-ish first acts, but this was in a class of its own. The lead singer/drummer couldn't keep a beat and wasn't much better at singing. And during half the show, the lead guitar didn't work/wasn't plugged in properly. I usually don't pin this sort of problem on the band, but from what I've gathered on the few online reviews I could find, this seems to happen quite a lot with them. Later in the show, we found out that one of the band members is a cousin of Tegan & Sara's, which explained a lot. Finally, for the main act, this Tegan & Sara show made me feel very old. Except for the same anecdote we've heard at least 5 times before, the show left no place to the cute banter that usually makes T&S shows so enjoyable. Instead, we got to see Tegan white-mom-dancing. The crowd seemed to love the new 90's electo stuff, but I miss the old stuff. I guess I'm just old now.
