Best live act touring today, I wish Dickey was there.
These guys are by far my favorite touring band. Fantastic, if we could only add Dickey.
There comes a time where you need to just do something unimaginable and flying from Edmonton to New York to see the Allman Brothers at the Beacon Theatre fits into that category. My husband has been a longtime fan and there was no better time than the 40th anniversary of Eat A Peach album to make the journey. The Allman Brothers music is, as it always has been, an acquired taste which seems to attract the attention of laid back bikers and bad boys gone straight. As I scanned the venue, the predominantly male (well seasoned-aged 45-60) audience, who cut their musical teeth on gritty southern rock mixed with extended intrumental solos, were having the time of their lives. The Beacon Theatre is an intimate and beautiful venue so some of the hoopla that prevailed in the crowd, was a surprise. A bit more beer and drink pounding than I would have expected considering the rarity of Allman shows and price of admission which sent some less dedicated fans home early. Too bad, as the last half of the concert included some of the better performances from guest artists and band alike.
I've seen most of the biggest acts in Rock history. One of my all time favourite bands has long been the Allman Brothers. I live in Western Canada and they have never played (to my knowledge) out our way. So we travelled to Boston to see them at the Orpheum. In my wildest dreams I did not think they could still play at the level they did. Derick Trucks channels Duane Allman and cutting heads with Warren Haynes has done nothing but make them both better players. Gregg's voice is one of the wonders of the world, how he has maintained his level of performance and artistry for more than 40 years is amazing. One thing that was clear to me is that the whole show has been together for a long time, from roadies, to lighting, to the band, they Allman Brothers Band clearly take care of each other and their staff. Too bad more corporations did not run along the same lines. They played incredibly well, were a true pleasure to see and the 3,000 mile journey was more than worth it. This to me was the best concert I have ever seen and I have been going to rock concerts for 45 years.
Historic! Hubert Sumlin armed with oxygen and Dr.John playing guitar! made this night watching Gregg and wondering... powerful. Robin
This was my first Allman Brothers Band as well as Widespread Panic Concert. I attend many concerts as this was right up near the top for excitement and pure Rock n, Roll entertainment. Can.t wait to see them both again!
The show and venue were awesome...a must see for anyone!
While totally not unexpected, Widespread Panic stole the show as far as we were concerned on Saturday night. Allmans seemed off and the vocals were muddled somewhat.
