About

THE BASEBALL PROJECT:

The Baseball Project brings together members from such noteworthy ‘80s alternative bands as R.E.M., The Dream Syndicate, and The Young Fresh Fellows. The all-star band puts familiar folk-rock elements like lush harmonies and chiming guitars in an exciting new context with lyrics that focus exclusively on America’s pastime, baseball. The nostalgia-soaked songs tell bittersweet narratives about larger-than-life heroes that resonate with sports fans and music fans alike. On stage it’s clear the band is a super group—-the members expertly wow the crowd and perform with a joy that’s completely infectious. When The Baseball Project steps up to the plate, ticket buyers can expect to see the band hit it out of the park.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Not many bands can say that they formed at a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony. In 2007, guitarist/vocalists Steve Wynn and Scott McCaughey came up with the idea for The Baseball Project while watching their friends Peter Buck (guitar) and Mike Mills (bass) be honored for their work with R.E.M. When Wynn’s wife Linda Pitmon joined on the drums, their roster was officially set. The all-star group released their first album Volume 1: Frozen Ropes and Dying Quails that year to rave reviews. When R.E.M. broke up in 2011, Mills and Buck had time to focus on The Baseball Project full-time. Later that year they released their second album Volume 2: High and Inside to similarly high praise. In support of the album, the band went on a tour of the US and was even invited to play before some Spring Training games at Arizona’s Cactus League. Following the release of their album 3rd in 2014, the band has continued to wow fans at venues across the country.

Take Steve Wynn from Dream Syndicate, Scott McCaughey from The Young Fresh Fellows, on guitars, Linda Pitmon on drums, Mike Mills from R.E.M , sitting in for Peter Buck on bass, add a healthy dose of Baseball Stories, fun and rocking great tunes, and you have the Baseball Project.!!! This is a band you should run to see!
