The cast did an excellent job, especially Cunningham, he owned it and stole the show!

    This musical is AMAZING

by Orlandude on 2014-07-27National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

if you take it a certain way it can be offensive but if you just forget about a moment and just think of it's laughing and just get lost in probably one of the most hilarious things you will see in your life. Not only is it very funny it has fantastic sets, amazing dance numbers, and a fantastic soundtrack to match the excellence of the rest of the show. If you have the chance to see this DO NOT miss it is my second favourite musical of all time. It is one of the greatest things you can see in your life.

    Book of Mormon

by glamourpuss on 2014-07-26National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

What a fabulous show. Beats all the misucals I have seen live. Would't buy the cd of the music (not like Camelot, etc.) because it doesn't translate to "listening music", but a very funny and at times thought provoking show... and I am not even a South PArk fan!

A good performance. Entertaining and irreverent...but you know that going in.

    Book of Mormon was incredible!

by pezz on 2014-07-26National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

The show was fantastic from beginning to end. No song or scene that was tedious. Laughs that while they certainly lampooned the Mormon religion, didn't feel mean spirited. (Of course perhaps a Mormon would disagree). Nyk Bielak was beyond superb in his role as Elder Cunningham.

The book of mormon was funny

by Arpantzo on 2014-07-26Nac - Ottawa

I love the whole show from the start to the end. The music and dancing was great. However, the sound was not clear. It seems like it's a little too loud, so the words weren't heard properly or the sound seems breaking up. From reading other reviews, it doesn't seem to matter of where you sit. Love the show though.

    Very Funny Show!

by Reilly on 2014-07-26National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Really enjoyed The Book of Mormon performance at the NAC. It was really entertaining and a laugh a minute. The cast was very good, especially the actor who portrayed Arnold. Would definitely recommend.

    brilliant show

by Anonymous on 2014-07-26National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Great show. Trey parker and matt stone are brillianr. The acoustics at the NAC were disappointing though. It was difficult to make out the lyrics a lot of the time and the volume was often alternating between too high and too low.

There was great talent in the cast. What a shame since the content was offensive. What a waste of my time and money too!

    Book Of Mormon was FANTASTIC

by 2spookie on 2014-07-25National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

This was the second time we saw this play-last year in Toronto and this year at the NAC with a different cast.. .Both were fantastic- our seats at NAC were great -GG three rows back. The acting, singing, lighting, and dancing were outstanding. We have seen top shows on Broadway and this performance was as good as any of those.

The Book of Mormon AKA Pure Entertainment

by QOAT on 2014-07-25National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

What a great show! From the very beginning until the very end, I was laughing - as was everyone else in the theatre. Very clever, well written, great music, beautiful voices. I have already told several people about this fabulous joyful entertaining show.

    Close but no cigar

by Dogwhisperer on 2014-07-24National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Professional props and excellent use of them. Balance between orchestra and singers now adjusted correctly. Story line fun but not too insulting to religion. All singers had good voices. Acting at a professional level as expected at this price. A major defect however was the quality of the sound system as it sounded like the siungs were coming from the bottom of a barrel which made it extremely difficult to catch all the words and thus missed at lot of the jokes.

I would absolutely recommend this show to anyone - as long as you don't have an aversion to strong language! Hilarious, irreverent, and clever.

    The Book of Mormon

by MikeinOttawa on 2014-07-23National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Very impressed, much that is good, but the portrayal of Uganda/Africans never rose above the worst of stereotypes. A critic named Hassan Malik was, I think, correct in saying that "criticism of religion, however constructive, satirical or well intentioned, ( lulls ) an otherwise progressive audience into passivity on the issue of racism. It is as if it is considered a worthy sacrifice to the critique of religion." I guess you could think of it as a "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" format, the black characters are cartoon stereotypes and Uganda is "Toontown" (an imaginary place that does not and cannot exist). It's still worth seeing as a satire and a parody of religion and of some religious attitudes and also perhaps a parody of the toothlessness of other recent Broadway musical offerings.
